  • Last year after i completed my Around The Bay 100km, I told myself I would be doing The Classic, 220km and I did it.
    Around The Bay, sponsored by United Energy, began since 1993. It was the 21st edition of event. The route took us up to the Westgate Bridge from Port Melbourne, passed Geelong to Queenscliff, crossed the sea by ferry to Sorrento, and then back up to Melbourne again via Beach Road.
    In this episode, I'll show you some of highlights during my ride on this journey.

    I'm not sure I could do it again for the full lap. I did it 6 times in the 90s and 2000s, but now I am older and have more trouble with my knees (and have a replaced hip), so I might just try the 100 km this year and see how I go. It is a wonderful challenge and a great day out, but I remember crawling home a few times utterly exhausted when I was not properly prepared! And I know I am at a lower level now! Great work Clem to get around. It is something you can always call on when cycling stories come around.

      Fair enough. You have to look listen to your body. But to do 100km is not that easy too, just take it easy and enjoy the scenery. Cycling is a good exercise to keep body active. I'm ready glad you still consider to do 100km.

      Have fun! It is a long ride. Try to get to the ferry asap then you can take your time with your own pass after crossing the sea.

    Shame about the weather. Since I don’t have cycling buddies I don’t think I’ll do this, but I’m a bit off, I’m at 50km right now. I’m increasing my distance 10% a week. But I would make sure I could do 220 before attempting this, or any event, but I do want a medal to signify the work and journey I’ve been on. By the way I don’t think you can draft at that distance, I’m pretty sure you almost need to be touching wheels. But 25km average speed is pretty dam fast by my standards, particularly over that distance, I could only dream of 25km/hr even over an hour, but I’m not giving up

      Hi, I used to be solo cyclist until I slowly expose myself to others and make friends. I wasn't able to ride that long distance at first, I slowly extend every ride like what you said. So I believe you can make it one day to do 220km. Try 100km first for next year. BTW if you don't mind I ask which area you based in?

      @@clemtravlog - Good thing about cycling is you don’t need anyone to ride with. I’m sure I can do 100, in fact if I can keep progressing at 10% a week, (if my neck can take it) well in 7 weeks I’ll be at 97 km. My goal is to ride to beach road to the watchtower where they do the weekly Melbourne hell ride, and then back into the city and back home through capital city trail completing the circuit. I might just do that weekly and over time increase my speed to 25km/hr. Will I want to keep going after that, I’m not sure. But to do 220km I’d have to do laps, I no longer get that feeling of wanting to keep riding and riding no more but that may change as I get fitter who knows.
      As for events, meh, if you have company. It’s not something I must do, I don’t really care because I’m not racing. Although I may contact an old mate on Facebook to see if he wants to do the Amy grand fondo recreational. I’m in Thornbury

    • @clemtravlog
      @clemtravlog  11 месяцев назад

      The distance. Especially after ferry body got totally cool down. So riding back from Sorrento made me tiring with the lactic acid built up.
