    My length retention principles are:
    1. Stop being concerned about retention.
    2. Clean my scalp and hair regularly.
    3. Condition and detangle with appropriate tools and technique.
    4. Wear whatever heatless style you want.
    Then one day you wake up with hair down your back.

      The BIG facts here. Length retention is a side effect!

    Hi Kayla! Can you discuss winter drier weather products/ ingredients to consider? Everything focuses on humidity. But what about the drier seasons when the hair is loses moisture quickly and humectants add to that. What role does silcone play in this? Avoid humectants and focus on anti humectants? My hair is drying out quickly with the change of seasons and I can’t figure out what to do. Summer I had a great routine. Help! @whatthekink

      @WhatTheKink  Год назад +1

      I may not be the best to help, given that it's humid nearly year round where I currently live. However, I have an older video that talks about Winterizing Your Wash and Go. The tips in this video could still apply to any hairstyle that you want to wear in the winter.

    I don’t get it when people say wash & gos are high manipulation. I am following a modified version of the Dickey method, and I style my wash & go at least 4x a week. It takes 15 minutes for me to cowash, detangle, and apply styling product (which is literally conditioner now for me) in the shower. It is the same amount of time if I decide to do it in front of my sink. My hair isn’t difficult to detangle and I don’t lose a lot of hair or experience breakage. If we can’t touch our hair daily without it breaking or not retaining length, then there is a SERIOUS problem.
    I shampoo and deep condition once a week. My hair is growing like weeds. 😂

      I had to scroll back to see who posted this .... I thought I wrote this cos everything you say is exactly like my experience. I could never understand how people are struggling with tangling and I don't. My washday is never a big deal cos I cowash on day 3/4 sometimes sooner and shampoo and DC day 7. I didn't even know about Anthony Dickey till a few months ago. Its what I always did cos it worked since the 80s. Then Natiies were saying plop. So I plopped and the results were nothing like my expectations. Then I went back and worked with sopping hair and cowashing more frequently...... And my curl pattern is restored to what it was like as a baby. So

    I usually wash my hair twice a week, I only wear wash and goes and I’m retaining length although I’m ready to go shorter. Love ENBBA

  • @CoilyCode

    I had breakthrough when I stopped washing my hair often. As someone with fine hair, wash days are the highest manipulation days and doing that every week did not work for me. And I was on that regimen for at least 2 years. Since it’s been 3 months since my last wash, I’ve retained more length in a short amount of time. Finger detangling has also made a difference too. Great video!

    For me, I noticed that my left side of my hair was shorter than my right side. I think green beauty mentioned that sleeping on one side constantly impact her hair length so I stopped sleeping on my left and now sleep on my right or back if possible for 9 months now and my left side has grown so much! I already wear satin scarfs and pillows so I didn’t think it would work.

    For me I realised layers the hairdresser gave me destroyed my length. Layers do not grow my fine strands but weaken it. Hair like rope fibre is stronger at the same length not frayed. A few face framing layers are ok for me.

    deep conditionner , is it important? or conditionner is necessary?

    • @WhatTheKink
      @WhatTheKink  Год назад +2

      Conditioner lays the cuticle down after shampoo so it’s definitely a must. Deep conditioning is a treatment and doesn’t need to be done every wash day. The frequency of deep conditioning really depends on the condition of your hair.
