"Roll On (18-Wheeler)", "If You're Gonna Play in Texas (You Gotta Have a Fiddle in the Band)", "The Closer You Get", "Mountain Music" are probably some of the highlights, but they do have 40+ #1 hits so that's gonna be a long list if you wanted to listen to just the #1s even. :)
We didn't have AC at home growing up. I don't think i knew anyone that had whole house AC. Just window units. Now it's fairly common and not too terribly expensive to add it.

I worked an overnight shift (back in the 80s) and my co-workers insisted on listening to the Alabama catalog as their music choice. I didn't like the tunes at first, but they got my toes tappin' and pretty soon I was on the Alabama bandwagon. We didn't have A/C either - I'd sleep over with friends that did.

If I remember correctly often times especially smaller towns the movie theaters would be the first places with air conditioning. So having that on a sign used to be fairly common as it was a big selling point. Similar to how hotels and motels used to tout having cable television and then "premium channels" like HBO.

I am also 43 and remember the lack of AC. I grew up in Connecticut and the humidity was brutal. We all used those huge box fans with the fake wood trim. In the 90s my grandparents installed central air and on really hot days my parents would drive us over there so we could all sit in the AC at least for a few hours. Other than that we'd spend a lot of time jumping in the lake or long island sound to try to stay cool. 😂

"Take me to your leader" is a science-fiction cartoon catchphrase, said by an extraterrestrial alien who has just landed on Earth in a spacecraft to the first human they happen to meet. In cartoons, the theme is frequently varied for comic effect, such as a pun on the phrase to suit the setting, or the alien addressing an animal or object they assume is an earthling.
It is believed to have originated in a 1953 cartoon by Alex Graham in The New Yorker magazine. The cartoon depicted two aliens telling a horse "Kindly take us to your President!"

Grew up on a fruit farm in Michigan. We had no air conditioning or central heat. We heated the entire house with a fire in the fireplace that had registers in each room. It was a big farmhouse. I had my own room and we each had a box fan in our rooms. It was 70’s. And yes, it does get extremely hot here in Alabama. I would not have a clue what the last movie would have played there. Maybe Raiders of the Lost Ark lol ?

Okay Jacob Listen to Alabama’s Song of The South, I used to sing it to my daughter when she was a baby. I was pregnant with her she went with us to the Erie County Fair to see them. Unfortunately my daughter Paige passed away on March 1, 2008 of a massive seizure that stopped her heart, at 5 years old. I couldn’t listen to that song for the longest then one day had myself a good cry in the car and was able to listen to it. Yes we did visit the statues in Alabama of Alabama too! We also went to Old Car City in White, Georgia my sister has taken lots of photos there and her Fiancé grew up next door!

Not that these items were not available but just that my parents had no interest in buying them ... they used box fans in the windows, cooked all meals on the stovetop or in the oven, and my father woke every morning at 5am to percolate a full pot of coffee that was heated up all day long on the gas stove.
My glory day was moving out of my parents home and getting my own place.

I am from Alabama and when I was 12 my family moved into a home that had no central air conditioning. All we had was an attic fan. My mom would open all the windows in the house and turn on that attic fan and surprisingly sometimes at night it could get a little chilly. But most of the time we were hot. As an adult fortunate enough to live in a home with air conditioner because that heat and humidity of the South can be bad. I live south of Birmingham Alabama but my favorite place to vacation is the Smoky mountains so I know that drive very well from Gadsden to fort Payne past Georgia to Chattanooga. My family always stops in Chattanooga because it is the halfway point from my house to Pigeon forge.

Great video as always Jacob. Ok the group Alabama is the best country music group ever, they are legends. They put on one heck of show, i saw them 3 or 4 times at the kansas state fair the saw them in wichita a couple times. Some of the biĝ hits were... Roll on, Mountain Music, Angel Among us. But just google them and pull their music up and you will love it. I was born in the 60s the house i grew up in had AC living in kansas in summer i am so thankful for that ac. But my mom would not allow that ac to be turned on til it got so hot, she believe in opening the windows BUT she did not like fans blowing so we had no fans. I love her to bits but oh was there some hot days in my youth lol. Then my elementary school we had ac excep for the old white blding that literally was an old school house with black chalk boards and wood floors, but we had big windows we were able to open to get the breeze. Yes i love little Debbie's, my grandmother always had some because she knew i like them and i was her favorite Little Debbie. Oh and please have some do Elvis's hair too.

“Take Me to your leader” came from an Alexander Graham cartoon that was in the New Yorker in the 50s. It was a “spaceship” with the caption “Take me to your president”. At least I think that’s what it is….

Next time you come to the area let’s meet up at the Alabama Museum! It’s not far from the statues. Would also love to see if we could get in to Sequoyah caverns! They have been closed to the public for 10 years but maybe someone would allow you in to document an abandoned cave?!??? Great video! Thanks for hanging out with us! Enjoy Elvis 😎
