How To Fill A Punching Bag | DIY

- This is how I decided to fill up a punching bag. I layered zip lock bags of sand, used clothing and 2" round cushion cut outs. The clothes that I used were used from my family and didn't have any hardware on them so that it wouldn't cut into the bag. I double zip lock bagged the sand for preventative measures. The cushion pieces came from an old Ikea mattress. So far the bag is doing great! I hope this helps you in your DIY project!

For those wondering, it's a generic shell from China, you can get them from places like Aliexpress or Wish for $20 bucks or so in various sizes. They're great for the price.

Yeah, those foam supports are a really bad idea. It take away from the weight. Also, and more importantly, it’ll cause impact discrepancies. Punching the clothes inside compared to the foam will give you really dramatic feedback issues. I’m not really sure why you choose to use the foam (I’d assume it’s to make sure it keeps its shape?) but it’s a heavy bag... who cares what it looks like.
Wow wish I would have watched this before I filled mine. I used all sand it waighed at least 300 lbs I had it up for a bout a month and I used it regularly and I’m telling ya what I think I broke a finger one day on it. It’s like punching a brick wall

A buddy of mine came over when I was working the bag and he told me it was wrong and I said no it’s not and sure a nuff it was so now I’m going to do it the correct way and now my wrist fingers and nickels ohh my shoulders won’t hurt lol thanks

You could have cut a 2" hole in the middle and run a PVC down the bag. Then add the weight down the pvc pipe.

How heavy is your bag? I got a bag which is already filled but it's too light for me so just wondering?
Depending on the size of the bag you can normally unzip the top and add more weight a and repack them.
the best way is to cut the foam into small pieces and jam it in all around and in between the bags of sand

how did the bag hold up these past 2 years?
It didn’t hold up as well as I hoped. I did not stuff enough clothing into it, it wasn’t dense enough. Also I don’t recommend this bag, it ended up tearing on the bottom and everything fell out.
