    This has to be one of the best matches of many years. So many high-quality rallies, great smashes, great control and all you can imagine in this one match. Thanks to CL for making it a great match and also a memorable win for LD for having beaten such a solid defense of the 'great wall' Chen Long's defense.
    Seldom you get to see CL's defense being penetrated as much as today's final match.
    It's so great to see LD has decided to play back this aggressive style he used to have when he first debuted in 2004.

    THE LEGENDARY LIN DAN IS THE CHAMPION!!! OMG LIN DAN SMASHED SOOOO MUCH TODAY!!! This is crazy!!! This is the aggressive Lin Dan!!! He leisurely took a stroll in the garden in the previous rounds, and then brought out THIS SUPER AGGRESSIVE SIDE here!!! He could literally play anything and any style he wants :)) Always elegant!!

    A badminton match hasn't made me smile this much in a very long time. Both players were great and you could really see how much this tournament win meant to Lin Dan when he was on his knees after that winning shot. The respect both players had for Lee Chong Wei was also very touching and you can tell how close he and Lin Dan are off court.
    It is simply wonderful to see a former champion like Lin Dan lifting the trophy. I hope this is the start of a decent run of tournament results for him! :D

    Despite losing the first game by a wide margin of 9-21, Lin Dan had the crowd cheering him on and he made a gritty comeback to win the next two games 21-17 and 21-11 to become the unlikely unseeded winner at 35 of this final match. Chen Long was erratic and made many errors while Lin Dan was patient and steady in the second and third games.

  • @ChyeHeng17
    @ChyeHeng17 5 лет назад +23

    It feels like the 2008 Lin Dan has possessed the body of the 36 years old 2019 Lin Dan's body. Wow...The number of smashes just in this final exceed the entire past 15 months combined where he lost 15 round 1 or round 2 matches.
    You can also definitely see Lin Dan is more beefed up with solid muscles and much greater full power smash.
    It just goes to show that Lin Dan either has finally seen the urgency to get his power smash back to his skills set, or he's been hiding this smash capability until when it matters. Olympic qualification is coming soon, and nobody has seen that coming at all from Lin Dan's superb performance in this tournament.
    CL did pretty well too especially in his attacks and keeping up the pressures on LD.
    But, LD is really smart. Look at the match he against Kenta Tsuneyama. He played more rallies with the Japanese, knowing he most likely can defeat him without much attacking.
    But, once it comes to Shi Yuqi and CL who know his game well, he went all out attack.
    Never write this man off. Suddenly, it's all believable LD is fighting for an Olympic Gold Medal again.
    And Kento Momota has a lot to learn from this man, LD in this tournament. LD has shown that at 36 years old, he outclassed most of the top players in this tournament with good aggression and skills. While Momota is still playing the old player style - very defensive in the past many months.

    • @ChyeHeng17
      @ChyeHeng17 5 лет назад +1

      @@ttsing No, it's physically very demanding to play such attacking style.
      Even us the recreational players, without a proper strength training, it's hard to keep up with the attacks as you muscles may get injured and also won't receive adequate amount of strength.
      Since LD decided to fight until Olympic 2020. This is the only way to move forward as younger players will go all out attacks.
      I've always thought, if he had done it before, he surely can do it again (the aggressive style) and he finally did it in this tournament.

    Lin Dan was my first inspiration when I started to play badminton and still is. He is the only one who gives this impression of wonder and magic while playing. I feel like Lee Chong Wei and Momota has some of that essence too, but not as much. Lin Dan has more than tactical skills, it's a kind of instinct, like he can sense what to do. Chen Long is rational perfection, Lin Dan is transcendental.

    27:02 Shots like this earned LIN Dan many world titles and Olympic titles. I always appreciated the LIN-CHEN-LEE rivalry. However, if we take a closer look at the H2H results, LIN leads by a wide margin to either player; and CHEN-LEE H2H are almost equal. This proves that if LIN is a God, LEE and CHEN are saints.

      Honestly, that shot in this specific match felt like chen long just gave it to lin dan probably because lin dan got call out for a fault just before. Chen long probably thought that fault was kinda bs so yea. No way chen long just loses his balance like that and it wasn't like a perfect shot either where you have to full lunge or dive to get it so that made me skeptical. Obviously he had to do it in a "trying manner" to not make it obvious else he would be disqualified. Could be wrong, but he did seem like he was ready for that shot but lost balance on purpose if you look closer.

    As his age grows, Lin Dan is increasingly unable to put rallies to an end. This results in more and more grueling rallies because he cannot finish them even given chances. He is playing like Muhammad Ali in the late 70s, slowing down dramatically, less and less powerful in his shots, but as determined as ever. No sane person would dare to predict he can triumph over Chen Long, who we saw today overshadowed Lin Dan in almost all departments of the game. He had so many excuses to lose, so many opportunities to give in. But he never wavered one bit. He is truly the greatest of all time in the badminton world.

    Lin Dan was always better than Chen Long... look at the head to head, 9-4. Chen Long was not able to beat Lin from 2009-2014, which was Lin’s prime years

    Huge win for Lin Dan this week. Chen Long missed so many cross court attacks it was almost like their 2013 WC matchup, seems like he gets in his own head when playing an in form Lin Dan and tries so hard to hit lines on his backhand defense that he misses by inches each time

    In my opinion, Lindan honored LCW in this match I noticed that he had a similar haircut and a similar stance as LCW in this particular Match❤
