Hi there! Thanks for visiting and good job on the research on our history and general information but I do feel u had missed out quite a whole load of fun for the actual places u visited! My suggestion is always to connect with a local (or more, per area you went) who will be able to join you on your walks and I’m sure you would have enjoyed more! Anyways, have fun on all your explorations! 🎉
I'm a local Singaporean and I like your videos. You've got Singapore's history accurately。I really like RUclipsrs like you that really did your research/ homework and talked about the country's history. Keep up the good work bro!
Lee Kuan Yew was a respectable man. Although very strict in rules n regulations , he and his team built Singapore to what you see today . Good education , racial harmony and political stability are important factors to keep Singapore going strong considering she has no natural resources unlike her neighbours. Our children are taught in school to uphold Singapore Pledge….. We the citizens of Singapore , pledge ourselves as one united nation. Regardless of race , language or religion. To build a democratic society based on justice and equality. So as to achieve happiness , prosperity and progress for our nation. I learned this in school and now I’m a senior citizen but I still keep it dear to my heart.
lky isn't as nice as you think though, but that's subjective and relative. I'll honor the old guards of the old PAP, they are the true architects of Singapore!
Those ladies having their picnics are domestic helpers from the Philippines, Indonesia & other neighbouring countries. There are about 290,000 of them working here, and they typically enjoy their off days outdoors with friends.
Kudos to you, you pronounce our local names correctly. And yes, LKY is the father of Singapore. Being a politician, not all will love him but majority do and miss him dearly.
I just wanted to point out some things after watching this video 1. At 3:23, it will be best to ask the bus driver for directions before tapping your card. Singapore's transport fare works using a distance-based tap in-tap out system where passengers tap in at a station faregate (for the MRT metro) and a card reader (for the bus). Upon reaching the desired MRT station or bus stop, you tap out to pay for the ride (the more distance you cover, the more you pay). If you tap in on a bus card reader and forget to tap out at your desired stop or tapped in on a wrong bus service and board another bus, your card will be charged the maximum fare, something you might want to avoid. 2. At 3:32, there are yellow seats that are indicated as 'Priority Seats'. In your case, since you are carrying a luggage up the bus, people will generally not make a fuss if you take a 'Priority Seat'. It must have been troublesome for you to bring the luggage up to your seat at 3:44. This 'Priority Seat' rule is not strictly enforced, passengers are just encouraged to give up these seats when someone needs it (the elderly, pregnant women, parents with young kids, people with walking aids). 3. The landmark at 13:09 is known as the 'Civilian War Memorial'. It was erected to remember the civilians who perished at the hands of the Japanese in WW2. The memorial has 4 pillars to represent the 4 major races in Singapore, Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian. Singaporeans sometimes call the Civilian War Memorial "The Chopsticks Memorial", due to its resemblance to chopsticks pointing up into the sky.
Singaporean and currently in Poky, ID. Missing these at the moment… 1. Zamzam - Murtabak 2. Banana leaf Apollo - Fish head curry 3. Beach Road - Deen tulang2 & mee goreng 4. Kamala restaurant- tosai 5. Usman - Butter chicken & naan 6. Hajjah Maimunah 7. Lau Pa Sat - Satay #6 8. Changi Village - Nasi Lemak 9. ABC brickworks - Ayam Penyet by Ansar 10. QiJi - Popiah & Laksa 11. Ang Mo Kio - Mee Soto dinosaurs To list the few… all are Halal…..enjoy your stay and have fun!
I can't believe we all got an excellent history lesson all before Myer had his first real cup of coffee of the day. ☕ I'm amazed @3:33 how clean and cheerful the bus is. Certainly not like the buses in Boston. Thanks for another great upload. I like the Marina Bay Area. P.S. Please note that @17:42 there are no pigeon droppings on Sir Raffles. This might be due to a strict pigeon law in Singapore, or their droppings are clear. lol 🕊
Im from neighbouring Malaysia..in the 70's during my teenager years I visited Spore..yes admitedly it was very advanced..even their HDB (public housings) seemed very luxurious and liveable..
Myers, you mentioned that singapore got kicked out of Malaysia for some reason...that reason was because Lee Kuan Yew (your pronounciation is right on!) disagreed with the Malaysian parliament to have a Malay Malaysia; he advocated for a Malaysia irrespective of race. The Malaysian Parliament wanted to give Malay race priority over other races that lived in Malaysia (Chinese, Indians, etc). The malaysian parliament was upset with his views and they considered him a threat so they decided to kick Sibgapore out of Malaysia.
Lee Kuan Yew instigate race wars in the 60s to gain independence. And when he got Singapore, he behave worse than Malaysia by mass importing chinese from neighbouring minorities to maintain at 75% despite their lowest fertility.
You missed Toast Box and went for Foreword at Esplanade. Coffee @ Toast Box would have been half the price at Foreword. FYI, you can find local coffee at hawker centres & coffeeshops/kopitiam at less than $2.
Welcome to Singapore, Meyer! You've got the history pretty right 👍🏻 Most Singaporeans have high regards for our founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Looking forward to your next videos. Enjoy the rest of your stay in Singapore if you are still here. Have a great one! Cheers
While Singapore can be a very expensive place, you can actually find cheap and good food, including coffee, at Singapore's Hawker Centres. Examples of hawker centres include Maxwell Food Centre, Chinatown Complex Food Centre, People's Park Food Centre, Old Airport Road Food Centre and Tiong Bahru Market. At these hawker centres, you can find delicious food for around S$4 (~US$3) and coffee for around S$1.20 (US$0.92). Refrain from going to expensive fancy cafes and dining establishments in malls, as the higher prices are due to the higher rental costs that these establishments have to pay.
Hi Myer! Welcome to Singapore. Where ure at now, is pretty closeby Arab St. Thrs the Sultan Mosque and surrounded by local halal food options. Try out Zam Zam or Victory murtabak, and have a go at the local sarabat stall for teh or kopi tarek. Enjoy the rest of ur stay here!
You can either actually walk or rent a bike From Marina walk all the way to changi using the sea view.. husband and I used to bike there on weekend dates bike ride is about 18miles from gardens by the bay to Changi Village… these areas are shaded by trees and breeze, it’s amazing you will be seeing more locals spending weekends there it’s pretty chill weekend and check out the nature too… if you have more time to explore Singapore.
@@zenweaver: its true in my circle. Knows no one who doesnt respect what LKY did in my generation and my parent's. Maybe except my own hubs who was critical of some things LKY did. But even he went to stand in the rain to pay his last respects back in 2014.
Singaporean here and just found your series (AM LOVING IT). I don't know if you realized but you left your phone on the table when you went to get your food, and we locals usually pride ourselves over the fact that you can do that without worrying about someone stealing it! :D
If you go next to Bugis, where Waterloo Street is, you will find churches ( Protestant and Catholic ), Hindu temple, Taoist & Buddhist temple, Mosque and a Synagogue all in one area. One of the places that I really like in Singapore.
I was born in Singapore but moved to Virginia in 2000. I'm very fortunate to fly home every 1-2 yr to visit my mom and siblings. And everytime I'm home, I am amazed at the infrastructure, architecture of new buildings and how Singapore is still able to keep it's culture and tradition. There is nowhere in the world that you can compare Singapore with. Thus, I am glad you had an amazing time and experience there. Thank you also for sharing your travel itinerary and reviews on those hotels.
welcome to Singapore! Do try out some of our hawker centres or some prata from a coffee shop. There are lots of Halal food choices. I think you will really enjoy it.
The beans they use are quite different. Cafe uses Arabica beans and generally cost $4-$10 per cup anywhere in Sg. So for $5++ its pretty normal. You can also get Arabica coffee from McDonald for $2-3. Coffee is expensive in Singapore..
Welcome back to Singapore 🇸🇬 FYI Victoria Hotel is in Bras Basah / Bugis area (downtown more than central). 11:55 that building is actually our National Library. 😊 Also, earlier on, the Kempinski Hotel occupies one of oldest buildings but the hotel is rather new. And, at Funan Shopping, should try the Ponggol Nasi Lemak. Of course pricier than in Malaysia (about $5 ish) but worth a try.
Mr. Myer:Thanks you so much for your new remarkable video today’s from Southeast Asia in Singapore City, Singapore to tours this amazing city in great joy 2024❤❤❤
You should have gone to Toast Box on the ground floor which you mentioned before going up the escalator. They have cheaper coffee compared to the one you had. They serve hot toasts, snacks and other foods. Anyway, hope that you have an enjoyable time in Singapore.
I just love your tour. Im Chinese Canadian, but im not a fan to explore various Chinese foods on the foods stands. I want to know this beautiful country! Your video just covered what I was longing for❤❤❤thank you for sharing🎉🎉🎉
Hi Meyer, you presented yourself really well and you do know well about Singapore as I believe you did your homework. Singapore is a cosmopolitan country with different cultures coming together and living harmoniously and one thing we have is security and peace… and I would like to thank our government for it. Do enjoy and have fun🥰
The building you pointed at at the 12 min mark is the National library and not a financial building. It's a pity you miss out on exploring the place, its pretty cool too.
At 23:49, you can actually see 2 big red umbrellas that says 'Walls'.That is actually an ice-cream seller. The ice-cream seller operates from a stall that is the sidecar of a motorcycle. This is a common sight in Singapore. There are also ice-cream sellers in Singapore that operate from a regular van, but the van is typically unmarked with no decorations. The only way to know if it is the ice-cream van is if you hear a loud ringing sound from a handbell rung by the ice-cream seller.
Welcome to Singapore enjoy your video. Just brief facts, place where you have your coffee is call Esplanade aka "The Durain", a performing arts and culture centre. The place you have food is Funan mall which is a integrated mall which a office/leisure building, use to be a tech mall for PCs and tech. Both are not just for tourists also for locals alike. Both are links throught underground pedestrians walk ways. Misses free access to Esplanade rooftop garden. Where you have a great view to the entire marina bay area(best visit in d evening). Look forward to more of your video. 👍👍👍
U are staying nearer to Jalan Sultan. A lot of cheaper options for cofffee. U should also try tea tarik @ tarik at Arab st. They are popular for their pulled milk tea.
You feel tired because of the heat. Find shade and hydrate often. And please don't leave your mobile phone on the table. It's safe but like our police always says low crime doesn't mean no crime😅 And we've a solid coffee culture here. Even as a local Chinese, ordering coffee (kopi) at the local coffee shops is almost impossible for me because there are just so many types and you've to order in the Hokkein dialect. Get immersed. Yes, our dearest Mr Lee Kuan Yew is the Founding Father of modern Singapore. He cried when we were kicked out of Malaya because we were doomed. We have no natural resources. Even water had to be imported. It's a sink or swim situation. And he and his colleagues had to bear the burden upon their shoulders. And he ran Singapore with an iron fist - extremely strict. He had to because it's all about survival. We owe everything we've today to him as he led many capable colleagues who helped build Singapore. His 10th death anniversary is coming in 5 months. And his daughter, the brilliant neurologist Dr Lee Wei Ling just passed on last Wednesday 🙏
Visit the neighbourhoods around Singapore eg Tiong Bahru or the different Hawker centres. The hawker centres have cheaper coffees, though you need to know how to order. Perhaps visit Arab Street & Haji Lane too.
The famous murtabak is near Sultan Mosque. Search for Zam Zam or Victory...either one is as good..healthy rivalry betwn the 2 as they are next to each other
Mr. Myer:I really LOVE to watches your amazing video from across the globe in great joy 2024😂❤❤❤I really LOVE this remarkable video today from Southeast Asia 2024❤❤❤
The waters that you were overlooking at the Marina area is a reservoir, joined to the Singapore River. 😊 Appreciate that you did some homework on Singapore & shown parts where tourists never get to see. You should try the local coffee from coffeshops or hawker centres. Heap Seng Leong on 10 North Bridge Road is a very old coffeeshop that sells butter coffee but only opens til 3pm. ☺️
Funan is one of my favourite mall filled with digital and electronic stores apart from clothing stores and eateries. Funan had been entirely renovated into this newly futuristic layout compared to the past.
Hi Myers, fyi tht hotel is located at Bras Basah / Bugis area tht are historically very diversed as Bugis got it's name from one of the Indonesian/ Malay ethnic settlers in the early yrs, whereby Bras Basah derived from the Malay words meaning wet rice. This area used to be a paddy field or sort in the early century.
Yes definitely Singapore is worth the travel.. it all depends on whether you want to live in luxury hotels or low budget hotels.. like wise too one can find top fine dinning restaurants or hotels or just eat @ coffee shops or hawker centers which also serves good food. You need to know your budget and spend it wisely..
We do love LKY because he gave his life for Singapore and was loyal to his wife and family. He lived humbly and dedicated everything he had to the vision he had for us Singaporeans. Those that don’t like him are usually the ones at the wrong end of his cane 😅 otherwise we Singaporeans are grateful to this great man
Myer, the next time you stop by SG, give me a shout - I'll show you how the locals live and what's life like for us Singaporeans day-to-day. I love my country and what you covered was just the tip of the iceberg 😁
you should definitely go Arab Street, check the food & culture there one more place you should definitely go for food is Amoy Food Centre its a lunch hour office crowd food haven, you can only really get food there between 11am - 2pm there is halal food there especially on 2nd floor
In the city, the toast box you saw on the ground floor in Esplanade Mall will be the cheapest 😅 unless you hit the foodcourt / food hall, which will be at 1.3 dollars to 1.4 dollars
Enjoy your tour of Singapore. Coffee can cost between $0.90 to $1.20 at hawker centre. And a meal can cost from $3 to $6. Will pay premium prices if it is a restaurant and much more if you eat at your hotel😎 Good food can be found in hawker centres and coffeeshops. Good luck!
Malaysia revolves around racial politics. While Lee Kuan Yew’s vision of Singapore would be of a meritocratic society where everyone and anyone have a fair shot at being successful. We got kicked out of Malaysia because Lee Kuan Yew is fighting for these ideals. Also the Malaysian Federal Government wants us to pay the federal government an exorbitant sum and provide an interest free loan to the state of sabah and Sarawak. When we need money to develop our infrastructure and facilities. That is also why it’s so competitive in the Singapore workforce as we can’t afford to rest on our laurels.
Hotel rates also fluctuate according to peak/off-peak seasons. While it's still considered expensive compared to neighbouring countries, hotel prices during special events like the F1, big name concerts shoot through the roof. That's why you'll pay upwards of $200-$250 per night for what's considered a budget hotel.
The Victoria Hotel is in Bras Basah area (neighbourhood) and Funan IT Mall is in City Hall area. From your video I learned that The interior of the Victoria Hotel is nice; I expected the room to be smaller and a no frills hotel.
Assalam my Bro Myers....you can try places like Haig Road or Geylang Serai, or Bussorah Street where Kampong Glam Cafe and Sultan Mosque is....pretty decent price for Muslim food...
Impressed by the amt of homework you did for Spore except maybe coffee spots because they are everywhere! You can get coffee ranging from S$1.20 to fanciful ones costing more than S$5.00!!
I'm surprised you struggled to find coffee Myers! Kopi is SG's favourite beverage, and you can easily find one for less than $4 in malls! Even back at Esplanade, there should be a Toastbox or Yakun or the likes! While both franchises are not halal certified, there coffee should be halal friendly!
Singapore wanted to distance itself from Britain and the only way out is to join Malaya.Malaya changed its name to Malaysia after that.Singapore was with Malaysia only for two years before it was kicked out.
Hawker car bro, much cheaper and the coffee is nice too? Must know where to find it,hope you can find the right person to tell you the tip and trick of find place and food.

Yes, Myer a foreigner introducing Singapore and her history. Thanks for the videos.
That man was a kind hearted genius. I’m from the UK and wish to move to Singapore.
lky isn't as nice as you think though, but that's subjective and relative. I'll honor the old guards of the old PAP, they are the true architects of Singapore!
One united people or united nation? This one is like the parliament 😂
Those ladies having their picnics are domestic helpers from the Philippines, Indonesia & other neighbouring countries. There are about 290,000 of them working here, and they typically enjoy their off days outdoors with friends.
That’s right! Not everyone you see in Singapore are local citizens. Many are foreign workers especially in the F&B and retail industry
They r park rangers.
Marina, city hall areas are usually Myanmar and Cambodia folks. The Philippines are at orchard area

Yes he already acknowledged it in the later part of the video.

Thank you for acknowledging
I just wanted to point out some things after watching this video
Singaporeans largely love Mr Lee Kuan Yew. I for one, miss his style of no nonsense governance.
This is not true.

LKY certainly did not buy the nonsense from the West. Hope his style remains.
LKY had strict laws on immigration which I like😅. Now we are getting too crowded

Search for Zam Zam or Victory...either one is as good..healthy rivalry betwn the 2 as they are next to each other
Holafly is pretty cool, I'll get that on my mext travel ! Thank you Myer
Thanks, it is a lifesaver!
Appreciate that you did some homework on Singapore & shown parts where tourists never get to see.
That’s interesting, thanks for sharing!
Hotels looks good! Very spacious 😄 Nice
Yes definitely Singapore is worth the travel.. it all depends on whether you want to live in luxury hotels or low budget hotels.. like wise too one can find top fine dinning restaurants or hotels or just eat @ coffee shops or hawker centers which also serves good food. You need to know your budget and spend it wisely..
glad you love singapore, maybe you can get a local to guild you along and explore more about my city.😋
Thank you. Singapore is not a cheap place to live but we feel very safe here.
The salaries are not low that the locals can live comfortably within their means.
@@linhwang6651until you try to pay for rental house that is
It’s definitely a very safe place!
We do love LKY because he gave his life for Singapore and was loyal to his wife and family. He lived humbly and dedicated everything he had to the vision he had for us Singaporeans. Those that don’t like him are usually the ones at the wrong end of his cane 😅 otherwise we Singaporeans are grateful to this great man
Mr. Myer:Welcome to Singapore City, Singapore this weekend in great joy & peace to tours this amazing Asian city in Southeast Asia October of 2024❤❤❤
Financial district is at Raffles Place, Shenton Way, Collyer Quay, Clifford Pier, Cecil Street..exit at Raffles Place MRT.
I was truly praying and hoping you find the cafe at the upper floor of the esplande and you did.
It’s a great spot!
Myer, the next time you stop by SG, give me a shout - I'll show you how the locals live and what's life like for us Singaporeans day-to-day. I love my country and what you covered was just the tip of the iceberg 😁
you should definitely go Arab Street, check the food & culture there
one more place you should definitely go for food is Amoy Food Centre
its a lunch hour office crowd food haven, you can only really get food there between 11am - 2pm
there is halal food there especially on 2nd floor
It’s great that you bother to research some of the history of Singapore and not just focus on instaworthy “cute” cafes
Myer choped the table with his handphone @27:50 very low crime, very safe 😜
Salam Mr Myer, you can get cheap food if you go to the local hawker centre rather than the outlets in downtown city.
In tourist area there will be nice food court as well. You can get cheaper food in food court with nice environment.
the "financial building" you pointed at is actually the national library haha
Haha oops
In the city, the toast box you saw on the ground floor in Esplanade Mall will be the cheapest 😅 unless you hit the foodcourt / food hall, which will be at 1.3 dollars to 1.4 dollars
Enjoy your tour of Singapore. Coffee can cost between $0.90 to $1.20 at hawker centre. And a meal can cost from $3 to $6. Will pay premium prices if it is a restaurant and much more if you eat at your hotel😎 Good food can be found in hawker centres and coffeeshops. Good luck!
That's great to know!
27:51 bro left his phone at the table to go take his food without a worry lol
true sg experience
Victoria hotel is in a region known as the Central Business District
Hotel rates also fluctuate according to peak/off-peak seasons. While it's still considered expensive compared to neighbouring countries, hotel prices during special events like the F1, big name concerts shoot through the roof. That's why you'll pay upwards of $200-$250 per night for what's considered a budget hotel.
That's a good point about the hotel rates!
Hope you visit the kampong glam area to visit the mosque and have some nice briyani
I am surprised you didn’t realised you walked pass Raffles Hotel without commenting it. It’s an icon.
Cant wait to see you exploring Arab Street where we have many halal foods you can try
Amazing video ❤❤
The Victoria Hotel is in Bras Basah area (neighbourhood) and Funan IT Mall is in City Hall area.
From your video I learned that The interior of the Victoria Hotel is nice; I expected the room to be smaller and a no frills hotel.
There is a local kopi joint and a convenience store at level 1 of the esplanade.
It! 's the location. Someplace is much cheaper for coffee, at only $1.40. Go to the hawker center or food court.
Assalam my Bro Myers....you can try places like Haig Road or Geylang Serai, or Bussorah Street where Kampong Glam Cafe and Sultan Mosque is....pretty decent price for Muslim food...
Visit the suburbs, HDB towns, there are still places like nature parks.
Impressed by the amt of homework you did for Spore except maybe coffee spots because they are everywhere! You can get coffee ranging from S$1.20 to fanciful ones costing more than S$5.00!!
You’re right, I’ll have to do more research on the coffee scene in my next trip!
Go to hawker centres or neighbourhood coffee shops for cheap coffee.
Without our late LKY. It will not have today of Singapore. Btw, welcome to Singapore. 😊
yeah u should go to arab st area..there's alot of good n great halal foods
Victoria street is more to city hall area. Bugis is more to Kampung Glam area.
Okay 👍
Singapore wanted to distance itself from Britain and the only way out is to join Malaya.Malaya changed its name to Malaysia after that.Singapore was with Malaysia only for two years before it was kicked out.
Ahh understood
Hawker car bro, much cheaper and the coffee is nice too? Must know where to find it,hope you can find the right person to tell you the tip and trick of find place and food.
Try Yakun breakfast kaya toast set! It’s good
I missed Singapore
Singapore is also called Lion City or Garden City.
come visit some neighborhoods at north east! try cycling there. you will love it.
p.s. tip: get small umbrella, really hot here and rain suddenly
Thanks for the tips!
