No the guy is doing it right! If you leave a gap/space you will have 4 times the gap when the water drys out of the wood.Butt them as tight as you can get them and when it drys there will be a perfect seam.

I have a Bowrench and it works great. The only negative is the plastic caps at the ends of the wrench come out.

2-3 days later, you'll have fair size gaps! When you buy the PT lumber, its super wet...
