Just to clarify beacuse I apparently need to do so. I like the game and want it to succeed. AS I SAID IN THE INTRO. However I'm also realistic about the games flaws. So I'm not mindlessly hopeful about this game's chances in the much harsher western market.
I got to disagree with your take anout Bleach being the wrong anime to start with. With the Thousand Year Blood War still airing and trending, its pretty much free promotion.
Definitely was a smart marketing move but if they rotated either of the sets with JJK I believe the release in English would have been a lot bigger half the card shop I went to said they’re avoiding the game till that drops
That's common with literally every card game, even all the way down to pokemon. Schedule matters, actually promoting the tournaments matters and location matters; just because a tourney doesn't fire doesn't mean the game itself is the only factor
The point about UA's effect on Universus and Wiess is actually incredibly interesting... and really fucked up. I'm almost convinced that was the intended ploy of releasing UA at all. Just bully all the smaller businesses out of the market to make space for the next Bandai TCG.
As a person who use to play wiess this game seems way better handled and care about vs wiess where bushiroad is afraid to address problematic things they're willing to drag it out then hit it when it's irrelevant, bushi doesn't care about the English audience, and until recently has made there competitive scene a complete joke like you get a 300 person event and u only do top cut for top 8 for both singles and team league event but only top 3 gets invite and prizing for team event and if u didn't make that tough luck u go home empty handed
I just see wall of text and feel tried already. I miss Future Card Buddy Fight style and Battle Spirt or Duel Master it was fun using your cards as a resource. I have not really been into new card games for a long time. One of my favorite i was enjoying collecting and playing with my friend was Keyforge i loved how each pack was a deck& it was pretty easy to get into. Some rules were abit confusing but you can use coins as tokens if you dont have any. Stareing at these cards i feel confuse on whats happening.
I hope it does well, though I’m a bit doubtful and untrusting on Bandai. I’d love to have a solid anime alternative to big 3. I like the idea that if I’m not into a particular IP, that I can just skip that set. That said, I’ve yet to encounter any cards in the wild locally. (Which, seems to be the norm for Bandai games. I’m envious of those with thriving, local groups)
Somehow, both Digimon and One Piece were played locally, though both seem to be on the decline, and I also can’t recall ever seeing packs sold Locally. DBZ is nonexistent in my area.
Thank you for covering this topic. Bandai they good making tcg but bad in maintaining. Poor TCG tourney, world tourney, poor regional Tourney. Just sell, no support. 😂
I like to think I'm more open minded; not shying away from a tcg because the art looks cheap, such as One Piece using screenshots in the early sets like you highlighted, but my main hangup with UA, and Union Cross, and Weiss Schwarz before them is the anime crossover business model. Same reason I checked out of Magic, all the promo tie-ins to other franchises. It's weird how I like crossover characters in fighting games, but need aesthetic coherence in my card games. All this to say I'm eyeing the Gundam tcg quite strongly (if I like how the play patterns for it end up) . I like how thanks to your righteous crusade against Konami's TCG branch, you are including pull rates in your general reviews for new games, just to hammer in how much Yugioh players continue to suffer. Didnt think I'd ever miss the eternal TOSS when that ended. Didn't think I'd ever miss tier zero Tear either. Hope I dont next develop stockholm syndrome for the current format
If you miss Tear, you'll miss anything. Tear Format was 100% bad, evil, and wrong, and letting it go unpunished was what allowed Snake-Eye Format to happen.
Have you heard about Universus CCG? They have been around for many years and do this style of different IPs battling each other and you start the game with a leader unit. They have My Hero Academia, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Yu-Yu Hakusho, Godzilla, Tekken, Attack on Titan, plus more!
Hey Monkey Fight, how do you feel about Grand Archive? Have you had a chance to get into it yet? You also mentioned that you had a play group that plays dead TCGs, have you hear about Argent Saga? Let me know what you think, it would be cool to see a video on this topic!
I haven't gotten in to Grand archive yet. It seems okay, but i can't honestly really say. I have no thoughts on ardent saga. But it looks interesting, If i happen to come across cheap product i'll pick it up for my group.
@@MonkeyFightTCG I think TCGplayer has a lot of singles for cheap. Its a really interesting game and I think it would be great to see you do a video on it!
I’ve been a fan of Union Arena since the game got announced, I was pissed about being locked behind a region lock so much. I had gotten the demo decks, and I’ve gotten several bunches of the Japanese cards, and now that the game is now available, we are so back
I already made one regarding it's release and the marketing around it a while ago. I unfortunately never managed to find a local community that picked up the game to play.
as a Universus play the game is doing fine. They just stopped using content creators so heavily for marketing purposes because there kept being backlash from over poor vids from ones that don't actually play the game
Welcome back! I was glad you gave your input i to UA. Yeah, my biggest worry is product fatigue. 1 new set every month? Is too much for LCS to hold possible dead merchandise or players getting sick of it. Hope to hear more soon. Also saw gundam tcg 😂
Yeah these types of art are a problem, but maybe that’s because it’s easier for them this way given that they release many sets, i think every month they release a new set.
I am no expert. But Bandai has to start promoting quality over quantity and start to treat trading card games as a hobby, not a toy or money maker. They should hire actual trading card game professionals (who are fans of the game's subject) over big names or random fans. And they need to get serious rather than pumping and dumping the next card game.
While true for one piece and digimon. The print quality on union arena has been a bit lower for non foils. It's not saying much beacuse they're still miles ahead of every non Bandai card game
I hadn't heard of UA until this video, maybe I'll get to see it but I didn't pay attention to it. But, what he said about the art is true, I literally lost all the desire to play when I saw "screenshots" of the series XD, the only one that catches my attention is bleach for having the new art of its latest season, but not the rest.
That Nikke and haikyu set is their breakthrough product, all they had to do is just pumping more "weebs" I.P that specifically target certain audience that willing to pay and gamble, bleach isn't it. like no joke, it's not Sao or black cover that carries union arena sales last year, it's nikke and haikyu.
Grr, you said a game you enjoyed playing may struggle in the west! I'll have you know I'm already saving up for hot sets such as Me and Roboco, Toriko, and Tekken 7 which will do great even though the video game Tekken 8 came out a year ago. There is zero chance these monthly releases will rot on store shelves and cause losses for game stores who are forced to buy in order to have a chance to order Nikke, a product that will be scalped more than the new Gundam Tcg people will quit UA to play. How dare you sir!
Western Union Arena * Gotta be Specific cause in Asia region there's still people Going to Union Arena tournament and then there's This Months Booster probably a lot of Westerners Will not get . It's Kamen Rider Which is not that popular in the West , in Asia though it'll succeed more
Yeah there's a lot of confusion i. The comments about that distinction. Two very different regions and markets. I think we're likely to see a different line up un the west for sets. Some sets def wont sell well at all over here. Tbf I'd want the Kamen raider set
@@MonkeyFightTCG still kinda sucks to see TCG fail but you can't change another regions whole culture . Cause to me from what I'm seeing ( I love in Asia region ) , we are definitely more friendly towards TCG Than in the west cause there's also the Stigma in the west that comes with card games .
This isnt hurting weiss or uvs for ppl thinking that. Theres huge amounts of ppl who wont touch bandai games because of the things they do. That being said, UA is perfect for what it is. Its just a good, easy fun side game. Its not gonna effect, op, digi or fw. How will bandai balance everything? Who knows. Plus gundam being announced and rumors of naruto being remade, theyre definitely doing too much. Only time will tell. Weiss has been around forever and will be around after UA.
I felt the energy system was a nice way to include some thought goes in to deck building. Like mana or stamina curves in other tcgs. Cant just pile a deck with the strongest power of effect monsters.
I'm in Los Angeles and we've had multiple release events with a ton of players at capacity, and locals officially start this week for constructed. It's already the most fun game to play, and I'm not sure why anyone would root for it to fail.
I'm rooting for it's success despite it's many issues that I have to be transparent about. I do like the game casually as i said in my review. I'm glad It's seen success in your local area and you should keep building that. But do understand that the western market is extremely varied and changes from location to location. Overall I do worry about it's success.
@MonkeyFightTCG this is NOT how you come across in this video. At all. It's such a sour tone. "It's not competitive, the art is just screenshots". You call it a flop in your title when it's celebrating the 1 year anniversary. I love this game because it's fun and the OP meta is insufferable rn. I dunno if you have communication issues like me, but you need a second person to read your scripts before you send it.
@MonkeyFightTCG nah bro, be honest. You say very briefly at the beginning the slightest of nice things, and at the very end you say "I don't think it's ENTIRELY over for Union Arena." Your entire video is you saying "His hair, WACK. His gear, WACK. His jewelry, WACK. His footstance, WACK. The way he talks, WACK. The way he doesn't even like to smile, WACK. Me, I'm tight AF!" If you're going to be a hater, just be a hater. It's fine, but if you're going to hate and say "I'm just being honest, guys" that makes you the most insufferable person. No one likes that guy. It's clear you don't like the game, so maybe don't talk about it. You just lose credibility when you get all wishy washy and keep talking about a thing you don't like. If your target audience is appealing to people who also don't like the things you don't like, maybe make a subreddit or get on discord or something.
Battle Spirits is Not Dead though . It's been going on for Decades now and I think last or this year was their 25th . So really Usually When it comes to TCG Stuff Expect The Western Side to Die early while Eastern either still going or Also dead .
@@autobotstarscream765 Battle Spirits Never Died , at all . Well in Asia Regions to be precise . 25 Years and still ongoing with Collabs like , Digimon , Gundam and Kamen Rider
I think I'll be playing this casually to start. I really enjoy the gameplay and it is very fun to play. Played a few events and many of us said it was bad from demo decks (including me) a few months ago, but actually playing it, it feels great to play and fun. I believe this is gonna be more of a word-to-mouth kinda game, where people aren't convinced at first glance.
@@MonkeyFightTCG I guess I could but I'm already with dbs fw, bss and digimon. And I didn't even wanna play dbs, just happened to enjoy the game and wanted to support my LGS. I've lost interest in digimon in general and I'm hoping with starting a local scene for Battle Spirits because I really liked that game and found a little playgroup
@@MonkeyFightTCG I'm praying that they regain people's interest in the game, release some crossovers people have been begging for like Kamen Rider or Godzilla, and all around good/fun sets
It's one of the biggest ones for sure, but i do think it's a bit past it's peak. But my larger point is that I think releasing it alongside Jujuitsu Kaisen would have tremendously boosted this game's launch. Hunter x Hunter is also a weird choice to me personally but I do love the anime.
@@MonkeyFightTCGmy guy, the biggest sales from last year period are HAIKYUU AND NIKKE BOXES, not bleach nor hxh. Take notice of the boxes price, please.
Yeah… With a new set every month, FOMO is going to be working overtime for collectors and players. Constant meta changes with little time to adapt, or having your pursuit characters being yoinked right from under your nose. As always, I stay praying for Bandai and Nintendo's downfall. Maybe collect a few of my favorites from the Code Geass sets as I wait for the titanic to sink.
I hear the card game is doing well amd thats amazing, its pulling in card fans to piolet their fav anime as decks dope idea. But the card art is so bland and the content around it will dull it out.
Why do you say that? Lol. Battlespirits as an IP is completely unknown to most NA tcg players. This on the other hand has so many franchises that there will at least be a decent collector's market. The gameplay is simple and the buy in is pretty darn cheap compared to other TCGs. Good prizing, lots of support, lots of IPs at their disposal.
@@millerbrown3051 Big prizing did not do anything to make people give a damn about Battle Spirits, support did not do anything to make people remember Battle Spirits, and as far as the IPs goes it is all cheap screenshots. Bandai also is already getting ready to dump this for Gundam, they just take any IP and make it into a TCG left and right with little care it is clearly quantity over quality.
Yugioh is at its lowest for lower local level and regional events. The top end ycs are doing okay to better than ever in certain regions. But the game is not doing great in the tcg. Unlike in the ocg
Don't take this guy seriously. The video is filled with bad info and just straight up misinformation. If it's fun, play it! The prizing is worth going to locals atleast and the buy in is a lot cheaper than one piece.
Luckily in phx, I'm able to hit 3 tourneys a week with 12-16 people playing. It's fun and seems like a great start. I had heard One Piece on release was dead because of card print and built up over op02-03 to get some traction.
Well good that your locals is going strong. It's been very hit or miss for most people. But one piece was successful from the start. It kinda just also grew larger from there.
Another game that bandai is going to kill due to their greed. Typical Bandai formula hype up, allocate heavy(so they can sell it themselves at retail), double down on FOMO and then flood the market. Also some of the 3* legit look worse than some of the 2*’s 😂
Weird that Dragon Ball is catching strays despite masters still going after 7 years and being the foundation for all the future Bandai Card games. It also survived Covid. Fusion World was so the game can have a digital client and be released in Japan as well as serve as an entry point for new players. Sure its not doing One Piece numbers and the digital client had its fair share of issues but calling it a flop is pretty disingenuous. I think your video is misinformed or you are omitting certain pieces of information (not necessarily maliciously) to fit your perceived view. Especially when it comes to sales data and anecdotal knowledge. Also Bleach not being a massive brand is a wild statement especially considering the popularity of Thousand Year Blood War anime and the upcoming Video Game not to mention you even say that the bleach events are filling up pretty much everywhere if it wasn't popular that wouldn't happen. Also you make it sound like keeping a "dying" game going is a bad thing. How is it bad if a company is supporting the people who continue to play, collect and support the game with stellar product design and events? Surely that's a positive and a positive sign for Union Arena that the game won't be abandoned if a set underperforms which we won't have hard data on for a while.
You're interpreting everything i said the worst way possible. Dragonball definitely did flop. Bandai themselves decided to reboot it. They're still supporting it but it's in massively smaller numbers than before and js barely on the board at all in the west. Supporting smaller and failing games is good, but only when it doesn't take away from the resources of bigger games. Ie with one pieces printing allocations be small untill op6-7 to account for bandais rapid market growth. Being spread to thin could also hurt design, depending on how Bandai structures themselves. You're right that bleach is the more popular brand they launched with. But it's not as big of a brand as their solo games like one piece, nor is bleach at its peak. For the best possible launch, Bandai should have added in a big third option early. we want to put our best foot forward when building a community.
@@MonkeyFightTCG I just took what you said at face value and the way it came across was very dismissive or negative to prove your own points without taking into account contradictory evidence or facts even now you double down saying Dragon Ball is a flop, which is categorically untrue. How can a game go 7 years, surviving COVID, have a dedicated player base and collectors (see signature, gdrs serials etc) it also paved the way for Digimon, One Piece and Gundam to be considered a flop? You already see comments complaining about a new set every month and you want them to compound that issue by having 3 sets at launch? I'd argue that Bleach has more appeal to the older generation with more disposable income than JJK does purely because bleach has 20 years of fans the anime continuing and a game coming out. If I take anecdotal evidence into account Bleach is the majority people are even aware of UA. One Piece is an anomaly in the card market and comparing everything to it and through that lens will make anything seem like a flop. I'm not a hater I just think the video is disingenuous at parts (again I don't want to believe maliciously) mostly talking about not making money on boxes or sales for the JP version and drawing conclusions for the ENG version which you again admit are different markets so it's a false equivalency and the Dragon Ball bashing which again is just untrue. Something not being as popular as it once was is not the same as something being a flop. I hope you understand where I am coming from and I am interested to see UA content you create.
I don't necessarily agree with the statement that you "often" find games being decided by not drawing low costs. With the nice mulligan system, I can only remember 2 games out of close to 100-150 that I did not see a 0 cost in my top 14 cards and that is in a deck where I am only running 10. (most decks run 11-13). The trigger system is something that I can see people not liking however in my experience are games rarely decided by a trigger. My biggest issue is the "random choice" your opponent gets when it comes down to what life you are losing. I just feel like it slows games down a bit. The "pick your own poison" feel to it can be a turn off to some people too. I do see by how giving your opponent that choice it does mitigate the opportunity for people to cheat by stacking their life. I wonder if your opinion has changed and if you have played any more of it? I also do see the game having a more competitive scene in time.
Not sure what you’re talking about with no special local events. There are local store events everyday in my region I go to about 3 tournaments at different stores a week and you can play with any IP in union arena. Also there are top 4 prizes for winners. The cards are very nice. Also you said you have to buy the newest product to enter tournaments which is completely false, where did you come up with this?
I'm sorry for the confusion. That's a regular locals that's hosted by stores every weak. Every card game does a variation of that. Struggle battles are a special event where players have to only play decks from one theme. It's a big thing for the JP side of the game and They're coming later on. for examples for special events. The One Piece Card Game on the local level example does: - sealed starter deck battles - Pre-release events - Draft Events - Anniversary tournaments - Store Regionals - Store Championships - Buddy Battles - New player teaching events These are on top of their regular weekly locals. Each of these has special unique prizes, rules, and promos. Plus the more competitive and regional level events one piece has. - Regional championships - Treasure Cups - Bandai Card Fest Tournaments - National Championships I hope this helps explain my disappointment in UA's relative lack of events.
@@Rayquaza894 Only played the pre release to check it out since I play OP local in that store. The interaction was quite limited compared to OP or MTG. Had to pick the bleach deck cause everyone else in the store wanted the hunter X hunter deck.
@@NoUse4AName14k I am not sure why they used the decks they did in the pre release, but everyone one that I have interacted with that have played it in the last week (most didn't like the pre release experience either) with set cards have changed their opinion. Not trying to change your opinion, just hope you give it another chance.
@@NoUse4AName14k I would try it again with printed proxies or borrowing someone's deck. Pre release is a weird format because it lacks consistency due to so many important cards being two ofs.
Having no regional or high level tournaments planned is a really weird critique. Arent regional events for Nationals qualifications? Why would they start that at the end of the year when the game just came out? I really doubt any card game would announce regionals right as their debut set coming out.
One piece had treasure cups which are regional sized events which is what I'm referring to. They started these very quickly on around later on in set 1's and early on in set 2's run. They're a large competitive focused event that helps build the community and encourage people to play and practice. They're fun and I enjoy going to them for every card game when I can. Missing out on a loved part of the experience is a fair criticism when it's something other card games and other Bandai card games do.
@MonkeyFightTCG Rare Battles will take the place of treasure cups and treasure cups didn't start until a few months after launch, just like Rare battles for union arena. One Piece also had a Q4 release just like this game and had their first regionals towards the end of the next year.
@tommyDluffy777 When did you start playing OP TCG? I dunno about you, but no one was really talking about it until set 3. The game literally has been officially out for four days now.
Honestly i feel like making this video this early was just meant to hate on the game in most aspecs, it just sounds like you checked heavily into some info and not very much into others. Like the pullrates you said 4-6 sr's and i have yet to see a single box without 6 sr's and 1 alt art anywhere. Also complaining about losing money on pullrates is such a childish way to come into a card game, its not meant as a profit/cash flow, it exists to play the game not to build a secondary market that kills the game. Dont open packs if youre trying to make money in literally any game, just buy singles everyone knows that.
I'm not hating on the game. I said I really liked the the mechanics and had fun with it. I'm just also honest about the flaws. The pull rates are very weak and we can compare them to other games. I just added in my own personal experience for entertainment. Plus it's not just about making back money it's about getting enough stuff ( either in cool arts or playable SR ) to justify the price tag. Op boxes are worth it and have a better structure so you can se why I'm disappointed in union arenas worse odds. Lastly secondary markets don't inherently kill games. If you want a fun history on games without a secondary market I recomend watching my force of will review.
Well, I’ve always been scratching my head about luxrul obsession with school bags and their practicality, but this video is adorable!! Congratulations.
My guy, it's not meant to be competitive. The official UA website explicitly states how they will monitor tournament data to tweak the ban/restrict list. Also the energy system is meant to temper the deck building so you'll always need Commons and Uncommons
Yes and if you watched the video I said as much. I recommended it to people who like casual games and I said i don't for people who like competitive games. Which is a very large part of the wester market. Edit: I understand the intentions of the energy system. That being said it creates other problems which outweigh the benefits gained IMO. Plus there's other solutions that could have been used that benefits both varied deck construction and consistent mana sources.
I think you made this video way too early when it comes to prices because your tcgplayer prices are based on release day when supply was at it's highest, currently half the SR's are around $8 now because the demand is still high and the supply has ran out(and it's only been 3 days.) It also doesn't account for shipping costs when a ton of shops have low stock so you end up having to pay like $1.27 four times just to get singles of rares you need, I'd advise people to buy 3 or 4 boxes to get playsets of rares and under and then buy the remaining SR's they need as singles if they really like a series and want to build all it's decks. If it's just one deck you want then buy it all as singles though. I personally bought 4 boxes of hunter x Hunter and even though I didn't get either of the case hits it still saved me money then if I had bought it all as singles.
@@thehatcaseonyoutube Yeah I know lmao 🤣 I am just shouting into the ether xD But I actually tried to contact Wizards Of The Coast and Takara Tomy but yeah I'm just one guy and Takara Tomy is all in Japanese 😅
Theres a few problems i had with this video I got into this for bleach and ive been playing the game since the super pre release to preface this Your comment on pull rates So boxes From what ive seen at least Are between 65-80$ in the US You get 16 packs per box 16 boxes per case You get 5-7 srs per box I wanna stress this Ive opened about 11 boxes personally for myself And my brother has opened 6 In all of out boxes We did not have a single 4 sr box And 0 5 sr boxes All of ours had exactly 6 Save for one that had 7 The reason this is important is you comparing this to one pieces pull rates which i dont see how you can On the alternate arts: you claimed there was no middle rarities When, ill use bleach as an example All 4 signature cards have a normal parallel version of said card And an sr version Literally a middle rarity Normal, parallel and 2 star which are the priciest ones ofc, but you still dont have to break the bank to get alternate versions of those cards I imagine thats precisely the point of both existing And the reason i say comparing pull rates to one piece is disingenuous is for one reason The average fair price of a one piece box nowadays for a new release Is lets day roughly 100$ Usd For when a set releases You get 24 packs 2-3 alt arts/secret rares And 7 super rares Meaning, you have 9-10 hits per box Compared to union arena which is 7-8 hits A 100$ box having a roughly 40% hits vs a 75$ average box having nearly 50% hit rate Id argue union arena is a much better value for your money Granted, depending on how youre getting boxes and how much I myself got boxes for 60 each one place and about 70 each a couple other places And as for case ratios Its exactly 8 1 hit boxes and 8 2 hit boxes This has been true for hxh and bleach from everything ive seen and heard, meaning 22 1 star alts a 2 star and the foil action point per case Again granted, thats not alot of alternates per case compared to one piece But at the same time Keep in mind one piece boxes have not been close to roughly 100$ average till op06 7 and 8 I wouldnt exactly call op01-5 boxes a fair price anywhere in comparison even today still after the reprints The only "affordable" one piece boxes being the 3 newest sets (not including eb01 because its still near the 150$ mark) is not better in comparison imo
There are no middle rarities of cards. Take SR Chrollo for example he only has an sr and a signed version with no in between. So you either play 5 dollars for an sr or 300$. One piece would have a secret rare, a secret rare alt art, and a manga. One for 20, one for 50, and one for 500. Thus there'd be a middle rarity I think you misunderstood what I meant. One piece boxes have been 80$ since set 6 for me locally. I suggest you start ordering directly from bandai if it's still a problem. There are quite a few ways to get them for msrp. Even if theres no op boxes for msrp, It still doesn't help the fact that one hit union arena boxes feel terrible and are objectively low value for your money. Also since the posting of this video I have seen someone pull 4 srs irl. It was 1 box out of a case and I haven't seen it again, but it's real. Hopefully for this game's sake, it was an error and 6 is the standard. If I wanted to be an ass like everyone else in this comment section I'd say you're spreading misinformation.
@@MonkeyFightTCG like i said in my comment Speaking for bleach, As i said Every 2 star has an sr 1 star and a normal sr equivalent Maybe they didnt do it with every hxh card But they did with bleach Which is what i said Cause i bought into bleach not hxh So for Bleach, there is a middle rarity for the top dollar cards And regarding one hit boxes, you can say the same for 2 hit boxes in one piece and especially when one of the two is a secret rare Pulling a kaido linlin out of op08 and an average alt of about 20ish dollars feels way worse imo At the very least At current prices Im more likely to make my money back or break even on a bleach box than any one piece box atm Even at 80 a box for op boxes if yoy can actually find them for that Which i said The only ones i can find for anywhere near that in my area are op06 for about 85 plus tax And srs in 6 7 and 8 Which are the most affordable and most easily attainable boxes atm Max out at about 8-9 dollars Op06 has gecko at just under 10 Op07 has jinbe at about 9 And 8 has black maria at under 6 dollars You can pull all the best srs out of these sets, and you are lucky if they make 20 dollars Whereas in bleach union arena Specifically bleach im using as an example because thats what i bought, invested in and keep track of Has 7 srs that are at least about 4$ at the time of this post 1 around 20$, 3 around 8$, and 3 around 4$ 7 of the 12 srs are worth something. Where compared to OP boxes Ill use op08 as an example Say you pull all the best srs Maria, jack, nami, carrot, which are min like 2$ The 4 of them makes 18$ Assuming you pull all 4 And the other srs are hardly a dollar Meaning theyre worthless Whereas bleach currently I stress currently I pull one ichigo and make that back Which union boxes are also if you didnt notice relatively balanced in the sr colors you pull You will always get 1-3 srs per box of each color And often 2 of each Which makes getting playsets from sealed product much easier I AGREE that getting a one alt box feels bad But as i said Cause i play one piece too It feels alot better than getting a 90-100$ box, getting just 2 hits, one being a 3-5 dollar secret rare Op07 with sabo and 8 with kaido linlin 6 having a much better buffer with the worse of the 2 secrets being like 10$ with the sanji With any other set Which all have an outrageous markup that im sure you probably agree Op01-05 and eb01 Being next to impossible to even break even The closest being eb01 cause theres actually a good number of 5$+ srs and multiple near 20 or over 20 I got a bleach box today ill use as an example, for 60$ It was a 1 alt box And it was a bazz b alt Which on the low is about $5 However My 6 srs An ichigo, a byakuya, a yachiru and a kenpachi, and 2 yellow ones that im not going to count because theyre under a dollar (jugram and yhwach) On the low is still a low market value of about 40-45$ Yes Its a loss A 15ish$ loss Even keeping that in mind Thats still better than an average op06-8 box Considering less than half of one piece boxes in a case are 3 hits I believe its exactly half if the case has a manga Which, for the sake of average im not going to count because its not in most cases Which leaves 3 boxes with an alt leader and 2 with an sp So 5/12 So more often youre going to get a 2 hit And now that one piece prices are muchmuchmuch more affordable (Which is a great thing i despise scalping) The hits have also been dragged way down To where the high for alts that are not leaders or sps In the most recent sets Is about 40 And falls off pretty hard depending on the set to 20 or even less Op06 id argue probably has the best average value?(id have to check again im not 100% sure but it has 3 very desirable leaders: yamato reiju and perona) and a number of very good staples in the meta as alts like zoro, sanji, gecko, sr reiju, sr perona, onami, hiyori, etc etc So in general Id argue its much harder to break even on op boxes than union arena, at least with bleach, but i can see you arguing against that for hxh which Yeah there isnt alot of money in the set in general Cause i believe its probably much less popular overall than bleach and maybe people dont like the alts in general as much compared to bleach which me personally i really like the design at least But largely id just argue bleach is just a stronger ip in general, also considering the anime is ongoing whereas hxh isnt Which is also why i wager jjk and demon slayer will probably do great when they release, cause we all know how popular those two are atm
Digimon is still really successful and Masters was successful until covid really killed it. Their old Naruto card game lasted several sets. In Japan Battle Spirits has been one of the top tcgs for almost 2 decades.
@21quepasa I just talking about in the US not in Japan. Also I will give u Digimon I keep on forgetting that game still exists. The last game never herd of
@@roderickstevn Dragon Ball Super Masters really couldn't find it's footing in locals after Covid. The Naruto CCG lasted from 2006 to 2013 but was a victim of bad power creep that hurt the game. Battle Spirits was a card game that released in the early 2000s in America and Japan. It was a hit in Japan but flooped hard in the states but they tried to remake it last year and it flooped even harder.
This game is fun, easy, and art on the cards are amazing. This video will not age well. And clearly, to the people who have actually dabbled on it are reviewing it well.
@MonkeyFightTCG I mean read the room. Even your people watching your videos here aren't as pessimistic as you were with this video. You must be a half glass empty person. The game officially came out in the US 5 days ago and this is your take?
Yeah I hope it gets better as well. Unfortunately we have the next year's worth of set art spoiled in jp. It's still screenshorts. It's just a much tougher ask to get people involved in a game they see as low. effort.
Might be bros being L take in history Bleach TYBW is all the rage right now, it's easily anime of the year and its best comeback story to date in anime 😂 Imagine saying that and not even a few sentences before hand talking about how packed the bleach tournaments have been, sweet Jesus bro I usually love your content but this so A tier stupidity.
I'm sorry my tone was not to your liking. But i'd ask you to again look at what I said in the video and understand where i'm coming from.. Bleach is doing strong and is a good first pick as i acknowledged in the video. however it's also worth it to acknowledge that it's not at it's peak popularity as it used to be. There's a reason bleach isn't getting it's own solo card game. I like both HxH and Bleach, but we have to be realistic. For the best possible release of union arena, i would have added in an additional next set of JJK to better round out the release and strengthen events.
Screen shots in even like 50% of cards, even 20% really and it's a no buy from me. The amount in digimon which is barely any at all is honestly annoying to me. Even just reusing art it's like, nah I'm good in like Marvel's card games and shit. I want artists to get paid for the card games and I hate these cheap ass cost saving measures when their asking me to gamble for cardboard.
It's not about saving costs - it's a licensors decision. It's exactly why every set of Union Arena has different number of new artworks for the game. It's also the same reason why DBS is starting to hit reused artwork. All of us out here want artists to get paid
I saw it on the shelf at the store and love bleach so I picked up the starter box and 2 boosters. $20 I'll never get back, I can't believe I spent money on screenshots and giant unused text boxes.
Just to clarify beacuse I apparently need to do so. I like the game and want it to succeed. AS I SAID IN THE INTRO. However I'm also realistic about the games flaws. So I'm not mindlessly hopeful about this game's chances in the much harsher western market.
One piece tcg anime screenshot no no no
Colorised manga screenshots yes yes yes
I got to disagree with your take anout Bleach being the wrong anime to start with. With the Thousand Year Blood War still airing and trending, its pretty much free promotion.
Definitely was a smart marketing move but if they rotated either of the sets with JJK I believe the release in English would have been a lot bigger half the card shop I went to said they’re avoiding the game till that drops
We are running 2 weeklies a week in my shop and we have 16 players at both, also we are selling out of singles almost as fast as i get them in

Everywhere sold out of boxes within a week of release
There was a tournament for Union Arena earlier today at my local card shop and it was canceled because no one showed up.

@@icemarvel0791there are more than a few. I like Weiss, it’s hit and miss but more hits than what I’ve seen in some other games
That's common with literally every card game, even all the way down to pokemon. Schedule matters, actually promoting the tournaments matters and location matters; just because a tourney doesn't fire doesn't mean the game itself is the only factor
It's week one people haven't received their cards in the mail yet
@@icemarvel0791now think if they make Slam Dunk cards lol
Game is super fun, prize support is great, IPs are super solid and they've already shown they're willing to balance stuff from JP.
I have no intention on playing, but I'm still buying Bleach merch
The point about UA's effect on Universus and Wiess is actually incredibly interesting... and really fucked up. I'm almost convinced that was the intended ploy of releasing UA at all. Just bully all the smaller businesses out of the market to make space for the next Bandai TCG.
From what I've heard and seen the creator is incorrect. Weiss and Universus seem to still be doing fine all things considered
Nah, because Wiess still dominates the Waifu crap. Plus WS signature cards are 1000000% better
@@GorillaGunner94 idk about that plus they've been lazy recent years with hot stamps that look terrible (guilty gear(

Yeah I thought so too as i said in my video. I just have to be honest about the issues as well
Thanks for the info, never heard of it, but apparently my favorite game will be getting a set in the future, so i was wondering about this.
Just imagine a Yugioh themed Union Arena Deck
It's funny, you make this video and now Bandai is also doing a Gundam Card Game.
even if the game flops i will still collect the cards and enjoy the Art from Bleach
Somehow, both Digimon and One Piece were played locally, though both seem to be on the decline, and I also can’t recall ever seeing packs sold
Locally. DBZ is nonexistent in my area.
I REALLY like the game
It’s so unique and boxes feel pretty great to open :)
I wish my local shops could keep bleach ones in stock they seem to be sold out every where now.
I was able to make the yellow and green bleach decks for the price you said so I have 3 decks ready for about $60 not bad.
What’s your thought on battle spirits saga
It's an alright game that Bandai killed with a terrible approach to marketing. I hope the people who do enjoy it still can despite everything.
i predict we'll get a video like this for that new gundam tcg in a couple weeks
Lmao. Only if people locally for me actually pick it up.
But the game doesn't look promising.
I want to believe, but as a Western Gundam fan, I fully expect it flop.
I hope we get some decent card sleeves and accessories out of it, though.

I’ve been a fan of Union Arena since the game got announced, I was pissed about being locked behind a region lock so much. I had gotten the demo decks, and I’ve gotten several bunches of the Japanese cards, and now that the game is now available, we are so back
Can you make a video about battle spirits saga?
Majority of cards in your deck is lazy still shots from anime. Bandai should realize that it is boring and lame.
Have you seen a bandai card? They are the highest quality of any card game
While true for one piece and digimon. The print quality on union arena has been a bit lower for non foils. It's not saying much beacuse they're still miles ahead of every non Bandai card game
I love casual tcgs since I hate how toxic people can get at a higher competitive level, not to mention the Bandai cheaters. Ao UA is perfect
Perfect no, But a fun casual game definitely.
I would be worried if I played some older bandai games like DBS and Digimon
Are u ever considering covering the Gundam TCG?
If people locally around me pick it up, I'll give it a try. It's hard to play a card game if not
Western Union Arena *
Gotta be Specific cause in Asia region there's still people Going to Union Arena tournament and then there's This Months Booster probably a lot of Westerners Will not get .
I tell you what, if they release the Nikke and Synduality Noir sets stateside, I'll dive in headfirst
They won’t release the Nikke set in Eng, they no longer have the license to work w/ Nikke atm, of course they can always work another deal out.
This card game only has events at my lgs because some of the One Piece players (including myself) want to support the shop. That's pretty bad lol.
My biggest problem is how you can stale out so hard if all your zero cost goes into life
I’m in the UK and really wanted this to be successful but doubt we’re going to get it over here 😔
I'm in Los Angeles and we've had multiple release events with a ton of players at capacity, and locals officially start this week for constructed.
I said in the opening paragraph that liked the game casually and would recommend it. I'm also just transparent about its issues.
Me, I'm tight AF!"
If you're going to be a hater, just be a hater.

I am not sure it can succeed in a very crowded market and I just think the cards aren't very attractive.
Bandai forgot about Battle Spirits Saga 14 minutes after launching it they're gonna forget this even quicker.
Bandai sees that yugioh is dying and its time to acquire their customers.
Yugioh is at an all time high rn. What you mean?
Yugioh is at its lowest for lower local level and regional events. The top end ycs are doing okay to better than ever in certain regions.

Don't take this guy seriously. The video is filled with bad info and just straight up misinformation. If it's fun, play it! The prizing is worth going to locals atleast and the buy in is a lot cheaper than one piece.
It's a great game casually and worth picking up. If you care about the game, the best thing to do is to build your local community.
Hey, Hunter x Hunter people. Any chance you could print a english set of that very old greed island arc?
"No but heres a card game!"
....no. not that.
They actually have a greed island build !!
This has to be bait lmfao the whole blue color is literally greed island. Lmfao
Another game that bandai is going to kill due to their greed. Typical Bandai formula
hype up, allocate heavy(so they can sell it themselves at retail), double down on FOMO and then flood the market. Also some of the 3* legit look worse than some of the 2*’s 😂
This is about to become the “buy a theme deck and like 3 packs tops when your favorite show gets a set” game and probably will not evolve beyond that
Weird that Dragon Ball is catching strays despite masters still going after 7 years and being the foundation for all the future Bandai Card games.
The way you pronounced Nikke gave me an annurisnm
The One Piece Card Game on the local level example does:
- sealed starter deck battles
- Pre-release events
- Draft Events
- Anniversary tournaments
- Store Regionals
- Store Championships
- Buddy Battles
- New player teaching events
These are on top of their regular weekly locals. Each of these has special unique prizes, rules, and promos. Plus the more competitive and regional level events one piece has.
- Regional championships
- Treasure Cups
- Bandai Card Fest Tournaments
- National Championships
I hope this helps explain my disappointment in UA's relative lack of events.
What are my stores in Tampa had a pre-release tournament and they had the most turnout ever, more than Lorcana
Bought HxH started deck and Bleach started deck. My local store only let people buy 4 packs on bleach cause they are waiting for scalpers to die down
This company S**ts out card games. I dont trust a TCG mill😅
I pick one MAJOR game and stick with it.
I did not like UA
Yeah a lot of people agree with you
What deck were you using? Cause i find the game to be pretty fun
@@MonkeyFightTCGthey are having several at Orlando card fest in January
I mentioned that in the video. It's good but that's not enough. one 250 person event for all of the west
Even with the increased prices it's still cheaper to get singles even if you're building every deck.
Give us back Duel Masters instead of this garbage card game...
Wrong company brother man
@@thehatcaseonyoutube Yeah I know lmao 🤣 I am just shouting into the ether xD But I actually tried to contact Wizards Of The Coast and Takara Tomy but yeah I'm just one guy and Takara Tomy is all in Japanese 😅
Theres a few problems i had with this video
I got into this for bleach and ive been playing the game since the super pre release to preface this
Your comment on pull rates
So boxes
From what ive seen at least
Are between 65-80$ in the US
You get 16 packs per box
16 boxes per case
You get 5-7 srs per box
I wanna stress this
Ive opened about 11 boxes personally for myself
And my brother has opened 6
In all of out boxes
We did not have a single 4 sr box
And 0 5 sr boxes
All of ours had exactly 6
Save for one that had 7
The reason this is important is you comparing this to one pieces pull rates which i dont see how you can
On the alternate arts: you claimed there was no middle rarities
When, ill use bleach as an example
All 4 signature cards have a normal parallel version of said card
And an sr version
Literally a middle rarity
Normal, parallel and 2 star which are the priciest ones ofc, but you still dont have to break the bank to get alternate versions of those cards
I imagine thats precisely the point of both existing
And the reason i say comparing pull rates to one piece is disingenuous is for one reason
The average fair price of a one piece box nowadays for a new release
Is lets day roughly 100$ Usd
For when a set releases
You get 24 packs
2-3 alt arts/secret rares
And 7 super rares
Meaning, you have 9-10 hits per box
Compared to union arena which is 7-8 hits
A 100$ box having a roughly 40% hits vs a 75$ average box having nearly 50% hit rate
Id argue union arena is a much better value for your money
Granted, depending on how youre getting boxes and how much
I myself got boxes for 60 each one place and about 70 each a couple other places
And as for case ratios
Its exactly 8 1 hit boxes and 8 2 hit boxes
This has been true for hxh and bleach from everything ive seen and heard, meaning 22 1 star alts a 2 star and the foil action point per case
Again granted, thats not alot of alternates per case compared to one piece
But at the same time
Keep in mind one piece boxes have not been close to roughly 100$ average till op06 7 and 8
I wouldnt exactly call op01-5 boxes a fair price anywhere in comparison even today still after the reprints
The only "affordable" one piece boxes being the 3 newest sets (not including eb01 because its still near the 150$ mark) is not better in comparison imo
@@MonkeyFightTCG like i said in my comment
Speaking for bleach,
As i said
Every 2 star has an sr 1 star and a normal sr equivalent
Maybe they didnt do it with every hxh card
But they did with bleach
Which is what i said
Cause i bought into bleach not hxh
So for Bleach, there is a middle rarity for the top dollar cards
And regarding one hit boxes, you can say the same for 2 hit boxes in one piece and especially when one of the two is a secret rare
Pulling a kaido linlin out of op08 and an average alt of about 20ish dollars feels way worse imo
At the very least
At current prices
Im more likely to make my money back or break even on a bleach box than any one piece box atm
Even at 80 a box for op boxes if yoy can actually find them for that
Which i said
The only ones i can find for anywhere near that in my area are op06 for about 85 plus tax
And srs in 6 7 and 8
Which are the most affordable and most easily attainable boxes atm
Max out at about 8-9 dollars
Op06 has gecko at just under 10
Op07 has jinbe at about 9
And 8 has black maria at under 6 dollars
You can pull all the best srs out of these sets, and you are lucky if they make 20 dollars
Whereas in bleach union arena
Specifically bleach im using as an example because thats what i bought, invested in and keep track of
Has 7 srs that are at least about 4$ at the time of this post
1 around 20$, 3 around 8$, and 3 around 4$
7 of the 12 srs are worth something.
Where compared to OP boxes
Ill use op08 as an example
Say you pull all the best srs
Maria, jack, nami, carrot, which are min like 2$
The 4 of them makes 18$
Assuming you pull all 4
And the other srs are hardly a dollar
Meaning theyre worthless
Whereas bleach currently
I stress currently
I pull one ichigo and make that back
Which union boxes are also if you didnt notice relatively balanced in the sr colors you pull
You will always get 1-3 srs per box of each color
And often 2 of each
Which makes getting playsets from sealed product much easier
I AGREE that getting a one alt box feels bad
But as i said
Cause i play one piece too
It feels alot better than getting a 90-100$ box, getting just 2 hits, one being a 3-5 dollar secret rare
Op07 with sabo and 8 with kaido linlin
6 having a much better buffer with the worse of the 2 secrets being like 10$ with the sanji
With any other set
Which all have an outrageous markup that im sure you probably agree
Op01-05 and eb01
Being next to impossible to even break even
The closest being eb01 cause theres actually a good number of 5$+ srs and multiple near 20 or over 20
I got a bleach box today ill use as an example, for 60$
It was a 1 alt box
And it was a bazz b alt
Which on the low is about $5
However
My 6 srs
An ichigo, a byakuya, a yachiru and a kenpachi, and 2 yellow ones that im not going to count because theyre under a dollar (jugram and yhwach)
On the low is still a low market value of about 40-45$
Yes
Its a loss
A 15ish$ loss
Even keeping that in mind
Thats still better than an average op06-8 box
Considering less than half of one piece boxes in a case are 3 hits
I believe its exactly half if the case has a manga
Which, for the sake of average im not going to count because its not in most cases
Which leaves 3 boxes with an alt leader and 2 with an sp
So 5/12
So more often youre going to get a 2 hit
And now that one piece prices are muchmuchmuch more affordable
(Which is a great thing i despise scalping)
The hits have also been dragged way down
To where the high for alts that are not leaders or sps
In the most recent sets
Is about 40
And falls off pretty hard depending on the set to 20 or even less
Op06 id argue probably has the best average value?(id have to check again im not 100% sure but it has 3 very desirable leaders: yamato reiju and perona) and a number of very good staples in the meta as alts like zoro, sanji, gecko, sr reiju, sr perona, onami, hiyori, etc etc
So in general
Id argue its much harder to break even on op boxes than union arena, at least with bleach, but i can see you arguing against that for hxh which
Yeah there isnt alot of money in the set in general
Cause i believe its probably much less popular overall than bleach and maybe people dont like the alts in general as much compared to bleach which me personally i really like the design at least
But largely id just argue bleach is just a stronger ip in general, also considering the anime is ongoing whereas hxh isnt
Which is also why i wager jjk and demon slayer will probably do great when they release, cause we all know how popular those two are atm
They should just focus on one piece tcg since its their only successful tcg that they have made.
Digimon still alive but yeah bandai really love optcg now😂
This game is fun, easy, and art on the cards are amazing. This video will not age well. And clearly, to the people who have actually dabbled on it are reviewing it well.
Sure it won't age well. Just like my vangaurd, bss, and new card game videos I'm sure.
@MonkeyFightTCG I mean read the room. Even your people watching your videos here aren't as pessimistic as you were with this video. You must be a half glass empty person. The game officially came out in the US 5 days ago and this is your take?
3:41 This is literary the main complaint everyone had for One Piece tcg when it first came out, and look at it now 😂😂😂
Yeah I hope it gets better as well. Unfortunately we have the next year's worth of set art spoiled in jp. It's still screenshorts. It's just a much tougher ask to get people involved in a game they see as low. effort.
Yeah and the regular manga grab cards look garbage still, point standa
i just hate the cards. even the SR's often look meh
Might be bros being L take in history
Bleach TYBW is all the rage right now, it's easily anime of the year and its best comeback story to date in anime 😂
Imagine saying that and not even a few sentences before hand talking about how packed the bleach tournaments have been, sweet Jesus bro I usually love your content but this so A tier stupidity.
Saying bleach isn't big is crazy
