Why does this masterpiece have only a few likes. How sad young people today don't have the exposure to the brilliant music of the 60s 70s. So many around who are ardent fans when they have heard and are familiar
If you'd grown up with the original Beetles version a few years b4 this, then coped this in the psychedelic era in Australia, this was happening shit man.😉
RIP Doug Parkinson. Stunning voice, and arguably the finest Aussie afro to go with it. He did a great version back in 1989 of the Guv'ment song from Big River which thrilled the audience and they begged for more. But his quintessential version of Dear Prudence is one of those rare occasions where the cover transcends the Beatles. My friends and I were honoured to see Doug Parkinson perform Dear Prudence live at Sydney Opera House only 18 months ago. What a champion.
So agree. I brought my son up on a steady diet of music - just told him about this version. Doug's voice takes an already brilliant song to a whole new level IMHO.
@@JaneNewAuthor How fantastic for your son to be raised on music. My kids were too ... I reckon it's a gift. There are some who passionately believe nobody can outperform the Beatles, and in most cases that's true. But as many people have commented here, there are some amazing exceptions, including Joe Cocker's version of Little Help From My Friends, Zoot's version of Eleanor Rigby, and Doug Parkinson's Dear Prudence.
Im 63 years old . When I was young I never liked Doug's version . I never thought it compared to the Beatles . I loved his version of ever lasting love & still do . One of my brother's said it was better than the Beatles . It wasn't till all that long ago I came to appreciate Doug's version . One of my other brothers had it in his 45s collection . As much as I love the Beetles, I’ve never liked this song from them! This version is FAR superior! Just my opinion! Just can’t listen to Beetles version!

The Beatles were greats but this is one of the few covers of their songs that topped the original. Others like Hush (Deep Purple), Eleanor Rigby (Zoot) and "Friends" by the late, great Joe Cocker spring to mind, but not many more. Doug could do anything. Saw him as The Big Bopper in the Buddy Holly Story stage show. The stage wasn't big enough for him. His mike went for a few seconds but you almost couldn't tell his voice is so strong. And vibrant. And soulful. And brilliant.
