I go through one of these videos daily alongside other ways to practice spanish and they're so helpful in relearning Spanish (I'm close to Mexico so all these other resources defaulting on spain spanish aren't helpful)! I think faltar finally makes sense to me - it's like the word "still" in English. "I'm still [doing something]", "we're still waiting on Mauricio", an easy one to get lost in translation and assume there's no equivalent
That's so cool! Thank you for having us in your repertoire of Spanish sources. You're right! Associating it with "still" in English can be very helpful. Thanks for sharing! =)=)=)
I'm always fascinated how many language constructions are quite similar in Spanish and Czech languages. I was curious why "faltar" should be difficult, but I found it is identical to Czech "chybět" in all described cases and both in reflexive and non-reflexive form 😍
3:48 is gold❤. I sometimes feel like I lose my personality in Spanish because I don't know sarcasm or humor. This is something I say (or am told) by my sisters ALL the time. "Es justo lo que te faltaba decirme". I hope that's correct.
The pronouns used with the verb “faltar” are Indirect Object Pronouns. They are not Reflexive Pronouns. Nice video though. Please never stop making them. Your approach to teaching is excellent for a wide spectrum of learners.
Hola, me gustó mucho tu vídeo porque este verbo raramente lo enseñan a los angloparlantes, y es tan importante.Ahora recordé otro uso, o frase con el verbo faltar: "Faltar al respeto (a alguien)". - "To be disrespectful with (someone)". Soy mexicano, y me gustan mucho los vídeos de este canal, porque también yo aprendo cosas del Inglés, idioma que estoy aprendiendo.Saludos.
¡Muchísimas gracias por tu comentario! Tienes toda la razón. "Faltan" esa y más expresiones con "faltar" porque lo usamos un montón, jaja. Suerte con el inglés. ¡Un abrazo!
I have a British friend who lives in a small town in Andalucía. He lives on his own, and after 15 years he still hasn't picked up the language. He's the only British person in the town, en el medio de la ná, donde Cristo perdió sus alpargatas, sus cigarros, su mechero, y tó! The people are very nice. In the bar the waiter comes and says "falta algo?", which sounds a bit like "farta aho?" in his accent. I say "a mi amigo le falta un tornillo". Lo que le falta es estudiar una mijita cada día 😂. In The north of Spain they have no idea what the meaning of zarcillos is, unless they are botanists (it also means tendril, which is the thing that some climbing plants like peas etc use to cling on to other plants, like earrings hang from your ears. Earrings. Pendientes, aretes. Aros. Zarcillo es una palabra muy del sur, y como muchas de las palabras bonitas del sur, se usa todavía en Colombia. "De la feria de Sevilla él le trajo una alianza, gargantillas de corales y unos zarcillos de plata". Aro means ring. It also means yes, for sure. As in aro, illa. Claro, chiquilla. Tan bonito es el español 😊
Thank you for being here! Conjugations in Spanish are crazy. I think understanding the basics and then just using the conjugations that show up the most is the best route. Otherwise our brains can easily get overwhelmed. =)=)=)
8:00 so falta can be used as an equivalent of saying "just" in english? We say it a lot: "I just need one more" for example. Would it make sense to say "Falta necesito uno más"?
Hi Maura, thank you for the amazing explainations and examples. I really enjoyed watching the video. I have a question: in the example you gave us "nos falta Mauricio para estar todos completos", isn't faltar used as a "reverse" verb as opposed to a "reflexive" verb? If it were used as a reflexive verb, the sentence should be "nos faltamos Mauricio para estar todos completos". I think maybe faltar can be used the same way as "gustar", a reverse verb. For example: me gusta el helado, or me gustan las galletas. Thank you and keep up with the good work.
Hi there! You're very right. These things are easily mixed up because the verb can do both things. As you say, it works kind of like "gustar". So happy to have you here! Thanks for sharing. =)=)=)

Imaginate, por suerte yo he encontrado tu favorito zarzillo ... en mi corazon ...donde hay un lugarcito muy comodo. No te preocupes. Asi que no hace falta buscarlo. Ojala y pudiera encontrar el otro.

¡Brandon! ¡Perfecto, como siempre! Si ya puedes hacer eso con "faltar" ya puedes usarlo cono todo un nativo. ¡Bien por ti! =)=)=)

Hvala ti maura volim te puno❤️❤️❤️
7:48 how is her reflection in the mirror if she is facing away from it?

When to use "faltar a" and "faltar por"?

Podemos decir= "alguien nos falta?" Are we missing someone (in class) ?
.... La cucaracha la cucaracha
Ya no puede caminar
Porque no tiene, porque le falta
Marihuana que fumar
aye ha hahai < lots of whistles> !!
Yo te creí que nunca faltaste ninguna clase.😂😂😂.Tu rostro confirmó que dices la verdad.😂😂😂
Jajajaja. Todos tenemos que faltar alguna vez. 🤣
Este vídeo me recuerda una pregunta que siempre me hace mi amiga argentina. ¿Cuánto falta hasta que llegues?
Jajaja, ¡claro! La verdad usamos "faltar" en cuanto al tiempo permanentemente. 😅
So basically, 'lo que te faltaba' and other variants are the Spanish equivalent of 'well, that's just great' and 'that's all we need'?
Dios mío Maura! I have nothing clever or flirtatious to say after that one. I'll have to watch this one a couple more times. 😅
Hahaha. You can do it! 😅
It would be great if we could have a link to a PDF file so we could print out this lesson. Es posible?

Este "zarcillo" que significa "pendiente" me suena mucho al español mexicano.
Sip, yo digo "zarcillo", pero es de esas palabras que tienen muchísimas opciones. Casi que una por país 😮💨 jaja.
