After a few moths of watching these kinds of videos, especially Lou Costabile, I cannot believe how stunning the cars of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s really were. No wonder the public was so excited to see the new models and what a time to be alive. I think if I had to pick just one decade, it would have to be the ‘50’s. I have seen so many just gorgeous cars from the 50’s, like this Cadillac for instance. There was such an optimism after the war and right through the 60’s. You can see it clearly expressed in the wonderful artistic designs and endless unique and gorgeous colours. Now, I have always been a car guy, but my interests were limited to the current cars and the ‘60’s muscle cars until recently. It might sound corny, but I’m so glad that I strayed into the ‘40’s and ‘50’s. It was a real eye opener to see what I had been missing all along.
GAWD!! It is Beautiful. If Cadillac produced a modern version of this design today with today’s safety and technology I would take one over a Mercedes, Bentley, or Rolls in a New York minute. My first car was a 1951 Coupe Deville I bought from my father for $200 bucks. I traded it a couple years later for a 65 Mustang. I enjoyed the Mustang but , now, looking back I wish I still had the Caddy. And the Mustang too while I’m wishing.
One of my friends in high school traded a "54" Vette he owned straight across for a Black "56" Eldorado Biarritz. A bunch of my friends thought he was nuts, but I thought it was terrific. It went faster than hell, unlike the "Vette" with it's 6-cyl and Powerglide transmission, and several of us could ride up to the ski areas in it. It rode like a dream and, yes, it could "peg" the speedometer!
My Uncle had a cream color 1958 Coupe de Ville with cream leather interior and A/C. It was a simply gorgeous vehicle, and I loved its tail fins and overall shape much more than the '59 or any other year Cadillac. I actually think that 1958 Coupe de Ville was one of the most beautiful automobiles ever produced.
That was the heyday of American auto manufacturing. If it was possible to go back in time I sure would love to spend a few yrs back in the mid 50s. Not sure if I would go back forever but I sure would like to experience the 50s first hand for a while. Being a car lover & a psychologist (and a dreamer) I would to see the cars & the culture first hand.
56. Eldos had 57 find. The scoops were for the A/V very very rare on convertibles in 56. Bumper bullets we're called Dag Mars. For a busty movie star. Wheels were called Saber wheels either silver or gold very rare.
Really nice Caddy! Not crazy about the interior. But what do I know? I think it would look better with a black or gray and white interior. But that's just me. Great car. Once again I always enjoy your great description of the vehicle presented. Thanks so much!
Beautiful car, and my favorite color. A convertable with air conditioning in 56 was super rare ( I guess the compressor was removed but the scoops are there) . Thats what makes it more disappointing for an Eldorado enthusiast like me ( I own the same year car, but an Eldorado Seville model) to see the chrome seat crests that sit in the middle of the white bolsters are missing. ( A standard for the 56 Eldo) also I noticed so many 56 models like this one remove the finishing piece of stainless that completes the door panel. Yes, after restoring the door panel it never sits flush any longer like it was originally, but it completes the door panel
I am not so sure on the "factory A/C" part. Yes, it DOES have the 2 air scoops on top of the rear trunk area, but as you noted there is no A/C compressor/condenser in the engine compartment. And since they didn't open the trunk, there is no way of determining for certain if it was equipped with A/C. The evap unit/blower motors would have been where the top folds down into. Kinda weird for sure.
Sharp looking Caddy that's for sure. Ah the 50's Fins era, I'm currently restoring a 1958 Plymouth Plaza, the fins may not have served a function, but they looked great that's for sure.
I'm sure it's worth it. Beautiful piece! Sadly though, cars in that price segment often don't get driven, but are more like collector items. Or someone buys them as an investment.
I'll buy only if Jayne Mansfield comes with it. Okay I know that's not your department, one can only dream. First class presentation and a beautiful caddy. I tip my hat to you Sir
The scoops on the rear quarters are air intakes for the air conditioning. The evaporator (cooling fined unit) was in the trunk, two blowers would pull air in the scoops we see and blow the cold air into the car from the rear thus no air vents in dash like today's cars. The condenser (fined hot unit) should be in front of the radiator but is missing so is the compressor that should be in engine compartment. It looks like sometime over the life of this car the condenser/ac hoses/compressor etc. were removed. They should be replaced if this car is to be truly restored. The air scoops are still on the quarter panels because they would "not" have been so easily removed. We don't know if the cooling evaporator or blowers are in the trunk as it was not opened, too bad, hopefully they are there.
I understand that these early-mid 50's caddy a/c systems (which you describe so well), were subject to frequent problems, were not easy and expensive to repair....does that sound about right?...thanks..
daniel lack The AC systems on these cars were very similar to housing units. In the trunk was a huge box with the evaporator core inside, and the discharge/expansion device. At the front was a condenser, and the compressor. Copper tubing connected the system together. The biggest issues are always those copper tubes leaking, and electrical gremlins. Otherwise, pretty straight forward system.
Holy Moses it is a awsome wonderfull car such a powerfull car Nice inside absolut gourgeus motor huge just love 🤟 these huge caddys wow thanks jeff and Jordan for this video i enjoy every moment
Nice vid.. love those shark fins.. one of the best looking Cadillac's ever made in my opinion.. and yes you've still made it if you drive a Cadillac.. :)
Damn !! The original owner must have wanted EVERYONE to know that he had money !! Silver paint with gold package emblems and money green interrier. One cool ride.
You are right, but the other A/C equipment under the hood is missing. I've heard there were some factory air convertible Caddys in '56 but I've never seen one. Olds and Chevy had A/C ragtops starting in '55 and Pontiac had them in '54 so Cadillac was a little remiss.
Man you need to tell us the prices of these cars please you're doing good presentation but still we need to know how much these cars are thank you for the good work
Great video... Thank you! Next time you review an automobile I think it would be interesting if you would include the original miles on the car? God bless! 👍😷👍
A beautiful car indeed. American cars of the 1950s, the most gorgeous automobiles ever produced. What memories I have.

Simply beautiful, looking at these pieces of history and the parts that were used back then makes this machines more attractive, they are art
Most impressive and beautiful caddy I've ever seen, didn't know the eldo was doing like that in the 50s. Nice show, top show!
My dad had a 1955 convertible with a continental kit. It was the first car I ever drove, sitting on his lap.
I think that year was one of my favorites great back fins great front end
such a beautiful piece of art
Simply gorgous they dont come close to todays caddy so much detail for its time I also love the 1959 caddy
A really gorgeous car, thanks for the tour of it!
It really was a top of line car in it's day. This is a real nice example too. Thanks for having a look at it!

Boy is that ever a stunning beauty!!!!! WOW
What a gorgeous Caddy. Not keen on the green interior given the exterior's color
Thanks for having a look at it!
Thanks for taking a look!
It definitely was a great era for American cars.
I agree, that color is perfect for the car.
I'm glad you like it. I agree, it's my my type of car necessarily, but you can't deny the quality of a Cadillac. Thanks for checking it out!

....Rich man's car back in the day!

1956 was the first year for A/C on a convertible Cadillac. I too own a 56 Seville with A/C, noticed the same things!!
Sencillamente majestuoso maravilloso una obra de arte de los Estados Unidos para el mundo es mucho automovil tan bello
Great tour mate thank u

Great quality at Gateway .
Love your descriptions.
That's just beautiful. If I had the $ I would get something like that & I would drive it regularly.

My parents had a '54 Olds 98 for a while, it had the scoops as well. As it was a 4-door, the ac vents inside were in the ceiling, above each car door.
Air conditioning was a very, very expensive option. Not all of the Cadillac's had it.
I did realize AC was available on convertibles when the evaporators were in the trunk.

It definitely would be fun to cruise in it every day.
I like your descriptions: "bank vault door sound" :D
Gateway has great cars.
The door is like one on a Bank Vault !!! You had to be a Banker to buy one The silver paint is Beautiful with all the shiny chrome

"Er, guys, I'ma just road test this Caddy. See y'all in a while..."
🤣
Back in the day when no seat belt install!
Bonjour merci voiture très classe magnifique couleur. Très beau modèle. Merci beaucoup.
Damn !! The original owner must have wanted EVERYONE to know that he had money !! Silver paint with gold package emblems and money green interrier. One cool ride.
Yep, they have it listed for $109,000.
Did this model Cadillac have the gas filler behind one of the tail lights?
left side.
Four door had it on left taillight also. My 1st car( dads)
Glad you like it, thanks for watching!

I will be looking at the car again this summer as it will be coming up for sale I hear.
Green interior ?
I was born in '56!:)
You definitely have to plan ahead a bit when you're running a big car with drum brakes.
the wheels were called Sabre Spokes by Kelsey Hayes. I owned the coupe version of this, the Seville, and also had a 58 Seville and 60 Seville.
I remember scrubbing my white wall tires.
Classy looking motor! I wouldn't say no to that.
Exquisite!!
Great car 🚗
IS THE CADDY FOR SALE??
Exhaust pipes in the bumper was a Harley Earl trademark. Earl could make a toaster oven look Kool, too bad GM design school isn't what it used to be.
the very best!!
It's pretty rare too...they bring some serious money these days.
Great video... Thank you! Next time you review an automobile I think it would be interesting if you would include the original miles on the car? God bless!
👍😷👍
Thanks for watching!
Just as a fun fact, the original MSRP on the car, adjusted in today's money, would be around $62,500 for the convertible. Plus options, of course =)
I already filmed that Bonny for you, I just haven't gotten it posted yet.
And the price is???
Yes Impressive CAD
Is it still available ?
Impresionante!!!!!
Qual o valor do Cadillac Eldorado por favor
I be like look at me in east St.Louis rolling shucking and jiving !!!
Honestly you would probably have to open a bank vault to afford one in this condition.
I forgot to mention, the year was 1963!
