Flat peaches are called wild peaches here. They're very popular in Europe and are often described as a juicier and sweeter version of the regular peach.
Yes, and a lot easier to eat lol
Don't know about juicier and sweeter but it's definitely alot easier to eat. Very ergonomic shape
I find that they have no sourness, while regular peaches usually have a sourness to them. Even the sweetest, most ripe regular peaches have more tartness m, compared to the donut peach.
not sure about sweeter, easier to eat though!
The flat shape also makes them easy to eat. You can bite down right next to the core without getting all messy.
Donut peaches are very common here in England. They are in every supermarket! I love them because they fit in my pockets 😂 (good for transportation)
Five finger discount?
iMoura UK /Minimal Vibes they’re suuupppeeerrr comin in LA too. I eat em almost every day. Kinda surprised it’s on this channel.
as cheap as 10 pence each here in london and I love it
I'm Tunisian the flat peach and the regular round one are actually Tunisian peaches specially the flat one is sooo sweet and delicious love it
They’ve become super common in the U.K. with both white and yellow fleshed varieties available. I’ve found that some can be bland and mushy while others can be very juicy, sweet and flavourful.
Edit: my favourite is also the white fleshed donut/flat peach!
Normal peaches are like that also, some randomly tasting like shit.
The white variety is very nice, its edible while still crunchy as well and its already sweet!
I like the doughnut peach's taste over the traditional round peach. I get really happy when my market gets them in stock. Doughnut peaches make a killer peach cobbler.
I think the term you were searching for to describe the, " not freestone" peaches was clingstone.
We have flat peaches here in Poland! I've heard somewhere that they were grown this way to be easier for kids to eat.
Doughnut peach is amazing! Definitely a vanilla flavor in there. Super sweet! Bought and planted one in the in-laws back yard, in Southern California, 5 years ago. It’s doing awesome in that climate. Got to taste some on our trip back this summer. Still amazing!
When I first saw Saturn peaches, I wasn’t impressed with them, they looked like they wouldn’t amount to much, but how wrong I was! I bought some Saturn peach trees, and those peaches are absolutely the best peaches I’ve ever had. So juicy, so sweet, far superior to standard peaches! Even the ones I had to pick way too early bc we had a rat problem, even those, slightly green, not at all ripe, were sweet, and so juicy!
haha the almond part would be the kernel of the peach / apricot pit. Chinese medicine uses it for a remedy for cough when boiled with other stuff like dried figs.
I have a 4 year old White Donut Peach tree that finally produced so much fruit this year. It is so beautiful when it blooms and just as beautiful now with the large oddly shaped fruit. My neighbor admires it so much. Peach trees are not uncommon in our area (Corpus Christi, Texas), but I had never seen, much less heard of this peach. I was at Home Depot one day and decided to buy one and here I am today. It is probably 10 to 12 feet tall and 10 feet wide.
they are very common here in italy
i thought the same thing!! you can find those at almost every market here, i didn't realize they're not common elsewhere
Same here in england
@@thedaniespot They're only really just starting to take off in English supermarkets but market stalls have had them for a while. I've seen them go from weird and exotic to borderline mainstream within my lifetime.
O italia felix.🤝🍑
I eat these a lot, and they vary in taste about as much as regular peaches! You can get them in a lot of grocery stores here.
Farmer's markets sometimes carry diverse varieties of stone fruits during this season compared to grocery stores.
These only recently popped up in my local groceries in California; I’m surprised I’d never seen them before given what an old mutation they are.
I first encountered donut peaches about 25 years ago, at a Ralphs. I asked the lady at the counter how best to eat them, and she recommended submerging them in milk, cream, or half & half, and going at them with a spoon. She was so right. The dairy blends so well with the peach, and after you've cut chunks of peach with the spoon, some of the juice mixes with the dairy, giving you a nice, refreshing drink afterwards.
The donut peach is very common here in the UK but have never seen the donut nectarine, shame as I dislike the fuzz feeling of the peach but adore nectarines
Yes, same, never seen a flat necterine in uk
Super common here in Germany too, just about anywhere you can buy regular peaches at, you'd also find flat ones.
Was it really the first time?
Here in Italy flat peaches are as common as regular peaches.
I live in the UK and I've seen them in the mediteranean for decades. Also those crappy apricot coloured peaches in Spain. But flat peaches didn't start appearing in the UK till about the last 10 years or so. They only got cheap and popular in the last 5 or so I think.
It's weird as I am Chinese and I would see them depicted in traditional art and vases, also hear them referred to in mythical Chinese TV shows. I actually though they were mythical until I saw them in real life.
I've had the peaches but never saw the flat nectarines
@@servantoftheonetruegodalmi7212 Peaches have fuzz, nectarines are smooth. They have a very slight flavour difference.
Ma quanto cazzo son buone quelle piatte
The only time I tried a flat peach it was mealy and flavorless. Guess I need to try again!
I've had the odd one like that but the vast majority are really sweet and juicy. They very seldom disappoint.
I got a pack of 5 for 45pence in Aldi. Everyone of them are sweet and delicate tasting. They are a bit hard but a day later they are perfect.
We had a white-fleshed flat peach tree in the orchard when I worked in Spain for a while. They were all mealy, flavourless and very disappointing.
Yellow tend to be much nicer, in my own personal experience.
First time I've ever had the same fruit at home, hence why I had to wait on watching the video so they were ripe and I could taste along with you! Very interesting, I noticed a lot more about the flavour as you pointed things out.
Wow, I had the flat peach the other day and I had no idea it's a variety of peach 😁 I thought it was just stunted fruit because of the odd shape... It was so sweet and tasty, I was blown away! 😍
ive only seen those flat peaches pop up a lot in stores recently, like 4 years ago maybe
I am currently indulging on these babies! Looove doughnut peaches! Their is even an heirloom yellow one, but the white peaches are my favorite! So juicy and sweet!
Donut peaches? Damn, I remember these. They're amazing. I miss those things.
I love apple peaches and nectarines just as much as the ripe ones.
That's exactly how ripe peaches are. I havent had a donut peach since 6 years ago. They were white flesh freestones. We called them "indian peaches". Oh they were so good.
"You know when you get a peach and you bite into it and crunches like an apple?...DONT like that's a bad peach"
-- Weird Explorer 2019
the Paraguayan peach
Cort Pendu Platt apple is described as moderately flattened, though it is most notable for being the ~latest bloomer (so spring frosts aren't a problem, though apples are rather late in general and rarely suffer compared to stone fruit) and having a really tiny stalk so that the fruit seem appressed to the branches. It is not super productive, and I have never seen one in stores. Some claim it has been around since Roman times.
The doughnut peach looks great!
When you first cut it, I thought it would be less ripe based on the colour, but the description of flavour makes me want to take a trip over to Montreal to get myself some!
Just found these at my local fruit shop. Doughnut peach. Was sooooo good. Small sead. Easy to eat. So sweet n juicy. Love em
These are very common here in the Netherlands. I love them!
The flat ones are often called 'wild peaches' here.
Here in Washington in the U.S we have donut peaches in local farms. In my opinion they are WAY better than normal peaches so much sweeter and juicier
Hmm, now I feel like getting peach tarts... Yum
i purchased 3 years ago a peach x plum x nectarine cross and a indian blood peach still waiting for them to fruit. this year i got fruit (for the first time) off of my plum and cherry cross called sugar twist pluerry it is more on the plum side for flavor , frim, juicy and very sweet.
The flat peaches I’ve seen in stores in Minnesota a lot, but I’ve only first noticed them several years ago
Really? Ive never seen them here. Maybe im just not looking
I have a friend that grows these, they're pretty good. nice and easy to cut.
We grow a very good donut peach here in Calhoun County Illinois, one of my favorite varieties!
When you get these from farmer markets they always taste soooooo good. Introduced them to my boyfriend...he’s so mad because now he has to wait for the weekend to get them because the ones at the supermarkets suck. Hahaha!
Found some of these at the Farmer’s Market today, same day you posted this. I can see what you mean about them being like Peach Candy- it’s an extremely clean Peach taste. Reminds me of Peach Tea, honestly.
I thought everyone knew about these! you see these often in the shops in the uk (tesco , sainsburys etc) , didn't realize they weren't common elsewhere , love eating them , really nice and juicy fruit.
I love donut peaches! It's most of what we had for peaches when I lived in Morocco. I haven't seen a flat nectarine but I want one now! It is been years since I have been able to find just a regular ripe Peach they are all as hard as softballs and as we know peaches do not ripen once they are picked they merely get soft. I love peaches and I could eat them everyday in the summer but where do I find ripe peaches in Maine. Growing up as a kid the peaches in the grocery store will always ripe and juicy and yummy and the nectarines a little drier we're still ripe!
The Jean-Talon market is amazing! I ❤Montreal
Ooh I love the donut peach. I never had a donut nectarine before though. Sounds delicious.
White peaches, when ripe, are soooo goood 😍
Superior is an understatement! Saturn peaches are absolutely incredible!! Or superior like u said! Lol
Those glitched peaches sure are cute.
I can't eat peaches, the fuzz makes me gag. I adore nectarines, though I've never seen the donut nectarine. Shall have to keep an eye out for them!
You can peel the skin quite easily if you score it and blanch it for a few seconds in boiling water.
No need for hot water either. You just need to catch them at the right time. If it is overripe the skin will be to weak to peal, but at that point i dont like them anyway. And if it is too firm yet the skin will not part from the flesh. But when they are properly ripe peeling them in 3 - 4 pieces is not hard.
Same! I can only have them tinned bc they don't have the skin
Yum, peaches.
We sell these all over at walmarts in MO, I used to stock them and we'd sell out back when I worked there, and they taste great!
I love the donut peaches and definitely prefer them over any standard peach or nectarine.
P.S. the donut peach is sort of a free stone, as you cut it you can see that no (or very little) flesh still remains on the pit. On the normal one you cut you can see that there is still fruit flesh on the pit, it doesn't cut cleanly. Also a big advantage to the donut ones as you won't make quite the mess and have the juice all over your arms.
Here in Australia the flat white peaches are called China flats, the yellow version are normally called Saturn yellows.
I have a tree of flat peaches in my backyard. It's very common and normal here in the EU. I just bought my tree in a garden store around the corner.
The doughnut peach is grown in Pennsylania in Adams county. I like them better than the run-of-the mill peach we have. They are juicier and sweeter with a nice crunch.
They sell those sometimes in the local village shop here in the UK!! They're nice!! 😋 Chinese, you say?? Health benefits? Great!
(I thought a nectarine was a cross between a peach and a plum?)
The donut peaches I've seen here are smaller though.
Donut peaches actually grow here in Buffalo! I used to get them from a family farm in Clarence
2:44 almost looks more like a plum than a peach
or a pluot, plumcot, aprium, apriclum, etc.
Oh man I love these. Here (CH) I get them by the box and usually the box does not last the day.
White peaches are far superior. Love them ❤️ no idea what variety we used to eat. Lived in a farm so they were just peaches 🤣
Flat peaches (called UFO peaches here) and nectarines are the staple summer picnic fruits here in Poland. Flat nectarine on the other hand, have never seen one.
The earth is a peach
5:48 a few weeks ago when i started eating those donut peaches i was like: damn they are so good and not sour at all and sweet. i was thinking about how you would rate them, i gave them a 6 in sweetness and 1 in tartness, i really like those donut peaches. im happy to see you actually made a video about them!
the yellow donut peach has the best flavor, but the white ones are sweeter. ;)
I like to eat the donut ones by pushing the stone/seed through the middle (so it has a hole in it like a donut) and then just eating it like that. I find it easier as im not likely to bite the stone/seed
OMG these have just come into a lot of markets in the UK, and whilst being delicious they still cant beat a proper full peach.
You should try Japanese peaches if you ever visit. Those literally explode with juice.
@@theuglykwan id love to, but sadly my financial situation couldn't be any worse.
japan looks amazing for its fruit and pretty much anything from what ive seen.
We have mostly flat peaches in south of France. more sugar than normal one
In Spain flat peach is called chato, which means flat, normally referred to the nose, it can also be translated as pug-nosed.
+1 glad not grown in a lab... Thank you China for making this marvel probably over untold generations!
I live in the US and you can pick them up at my supermarket. I think they’re pretty good, even though they’re just a peach.
Man I’m drooling here in the end of winter season ! I love soft ripe Peach white or yellow 🍑 🍑 🍑
I've been subbed to you for so long, I'm really surprised you've only 68k subs. You deserve more!
It's gone up almost 50,000 since last year, hopefully it'll hit 100k soon enough
@@WeirdExplorer hell yeah man. Can't wait to see your 1M sub video that you make a smoothie consisting of all of your favourite fruits, and one with all your least favourite lmao
Go to china and try water-honey-peaches. They're pale green to white and super delicate.
I've heard of donut peaches before, but have never actually seen any in a store.
Here in Russia they're usually called fig peaches (инжирные персики - inzhirnye persiki). I guess they look a bit like dried figs.
They sell these even in big box stores in the US. I see them even in Wal-Mart when in season.
We have the donut peach here in the UK. Not my favourite, but I love nectarines
Hey again, dam you still in Montreal, tbh I haven't seen these around here but thanks for these videos I'll check them out
I would love a video comparing the various passiflora fruits! Btw I love those flat peaches they are so tasty, here in portugal is quite common, however, I never saw a flat nectarine before xD
more passiflora videos are on the way soon!
i just had them! so yummy!!
Called wild peaches in the netherlands. Ive only seen them with white flesh.
They have those at Walmart.
2:54 yeah you do! 🤣
Never tried a flat peach before but they're pretty easy to come by here in the UK (and you've tickled my fancy). Also, looking at the comments you have a lot of viewers from here! :)
Hahaha donut, ufo peach funny names
Common in Lithuania.
Weird to see a fruit I already tried on this channel :)
They're called plate peaches in Chinese and considered to be fancier than normal
Oh my god this is so weird. I found you today I watched you’re pepino melon video. I wanted to see if mine was ripe(it’s not). So I click to see your channel to see what you I have uploaded recently, and this is your recent video. As I’m eating for the first time a donut peach. Lol
I love Saturn peaches
I love peaches ❤️🍑
You should do an update with a ripe donut nectarine.
in my country, we have regular round peaches that don't have any fuzz on it it's pretty tasty I like it more then I like our everyday peach
also, i think its a hybrid between an apple and a peach cuz its named "ვაშლატამა"
"ვაშლ" is basically apple and "ატამა" mean's peach
i seen flat peaches in the supermarket i never bought them they are a £1 for 4 so i always bought the more common round cheaper ones. i do flesh white flesh peaches i might pick them up to try.
Had some under ripe ones that tasted vaguely like almonds
I want wafer thin fruit perhaps even 2D. The fruit looks so cute tho
these are called 蟠桃 ( Pan Tao )
don't know why they disappeared in my local fruit market :(
I missed them quite a bit
Much as I love finding and trying obscure and exotic fruits, I honestly don't think anything I've ever found really beats a good peach. Flat peaches here in the UK never seen too be that great though, they're always watery and relatively tasteless. I avoid them now.
You are one brave man eating a mutation of a mutation.
who is your cameraman?
or woman
