Hi there! I’m a pediatric surgery resident and I was just looking for a template that could be useful to me, so yours is PERFECT! Just wanted to drop by and thank ypu for the video 😊 Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the support! I suppose the subject matter is a bit niche? In any case I’ll keep being consistent with it. Hopefully it brings value to a few people.
Christopher Maguire certainly helped my son to work hard to be a doctor in the future just like you. Also as a fellow Brisbane, your knowledge and experience is more relevant than other inspirational doctor/medical channel.
Thankyou so much sir, I'm preparing for USMLE STEP 2 EXAM I'm using notion for note taking, currently I'm facing issues with table view, list view , since there are many pages to load each time. After checking your template setup, now I got the idea I can do the same and filter the subject tags, so that I can add questions easily into different databases without scrolling 😊
Congratulations on being on the path mate. Keep the faith and let me know if there are any videos that you would like to see. I want to build a place where all of us on this course can improve from each other.
Great work Chris. I really like your style. You now have one more subscriber. I’m an anaesthetist and researcher trying to build a system to maintain my anaesthesia knowledge and to add to it as my experience grows over time. Ive been pondering for a while if and how i’d use Notion as a „second brain“. This video gives great ideas. Thanks.
Thanks for the support. I’m so glad it’s been helpful for you! I really rate it. I’ve recently added Anki flash cards based on the AR questions in Notion and that’s been a great addition as well.
@@drchristophermaguire Hey Chris, I was going to comment about Anki - I feel like Anki would be a great addition to this program. I have only discovered Anki 3 weeks ago and have been using it for active recall on muscle O/I for upper and lower limb (tailoring it for orthopaedics). Notion could be a nice place where all notes are amalgamated and then Anki used for that AR... how have you been using Anki in conjunction with notion?
Thank you so much Chris for sharing! I'm a final-year medical student and am about to start working as a JMO next year. I was wondering if you think, with your method, that there is still a role for Anki for quick reviews? Thanks!
Hi a General Surgery registrar from Hong Kong here. Thanks for the very helpful video! Been using Notion to prepare for my fellowship exam for around 8 months now, your video provided some fresh ideas for my revision notes! I have been having an issue with Notion though, the pages I created in the database do not show up on the left-handed column menu, which is the place I use the most to look for my topics. Any solution?
Thank you for sharing. I've been using Notion for a year during my M3. It's good to see how other people use Notion for medical studies. Are you related to Richard by any chance?
Nice video. I am a big Notion user myself and have shared a couple videos myself. I am curious if you have considered using a flashcard database similar to Anki as well as using toggle blocks?
I’m a big user of toggle blocks in my notes. I use them like flash card equivalents. I don’t use general flash card database techniques in notion, just because I’ve been happy with the AR capacity of toggle blocks in notes. But I can see how it would be an epic system if set up correctly.
@@drchristophermaguire Oh yeah, I still use toggles all over the place but I incorporate spaced repetition with active recall using the database setup. Here is a video if your interested: ruclips.net/video/Zt0tPas7kQ0/видео.html Looking forward to watching more of your videos 😁
Hey Chris, Fellow doctor here in the US. Awesome video, really great insights, especially loved how you mentioned how your system is dynamic and you used the mobile app to keep up with studying while you're in the hospital. I saw you made a Master PSUB and then created linked databases with filters for each subtopic (GI, Urology, etc). When it comes to spaced repetition, do you manually check each subtopic to see what topics are due that day? Or do you use the master database that's in the Pediatric GI section to then check? Anyways thanks a ton, would love more videos on your Notion flow, and would love to connect! (I'm starting a YT channel myself). Cheers! -Abhi
I attach dates to the subtopics, and then set a reminder so that it notifies me when the topic is due for revision. I also put the questions from each subtopic into Anki to support daily spaced repetition. Thanks so much for the support!
This all depends on how you study; there are not many resources that are fit for purpose. Those that are may not suit everyone. It is a lot of work, but it also improves overall efficiency if you're studying for years - as I am. Others have been successful doing it differently.
I use a lot of resources in my notes that I don’t have the right to distribute unfortunately. For your reference though, sources I use most: Ashcraft’s Pediatric Surgery (2020 edition), Coran Pediatric Surgery, UpToDate, Journal of Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Surgery International.

I don’t understand why such an awesome channel and great character as you only has so low number of subscribers, but good on you to keep it up, Doc.

One of those RUclips videos that brings one incredible value but is still underrated! Keep up the good work and steady growth shall tag along.
I appreciate that! Thanks.
thanks for the video. As a mid set surgical registrar in NZ, this is helpful for the part 2s!!
Really glad it has helped. Certainly a game changer for me in terms of studying n a time poor environment.

You're very welcome!

Great video! You got yourself a new subbie. I’m a medical student hoping to do surgery one day :)
Awesome, welcome! Best of luck with yoru studies. I'll try and bring useful content to you.
Thank you Dr Chris, I have been using your technique for the previous month (with my own tweaks), very flexible method.

This is incredibly helpful! I really love your idea of using the toggles for active recall. Thank you for taking the time to make this video :)
Thanks so much for watching. Really glad it helped!
Thank you so much for this! I’m gonna be in my final year of medical school in 2 months and this is gonna be so helpful!

Very interesting.

Glad it was helpful!
Great video love the tips on studying
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome
Well organized + Spaced Repitition = effective learning
Really glad you found it valuable
That's a very cool way to use Notion!!
I think so too!
This is perfect! It is exactly what I have been looking for. Im working to gather all my notes from medschool into one big database.
Really appreciate the comment! So glad it helps. Best of luck with your study.

I think if you ‘favourite’ the page you want in the menu it will show up there! Hope this helps. Best of luck with your studies

Thanks for the informative video. Would absolutely love it if u could share the template for your notes.
I’ll see if I can add a link to my videos. Great suggestion. Just give me a bit to get it done.

Anki plus Notion for managing spaced repetition learning. With this combo you have really hit the nail on the head. Nice!
Good and inspiring job!

I’ll try and link this to the video. I just need to make up a plain copy of the template first. Great suggestion!
