    I do something similar to bouncing around. Within that there's something worth knowing.
    Sometimes we can go down a path of seeing repeats as progress. That's true to an extent, but what it mostly does is build muscle as a benefit. The key thing sometimes is to turn to quality over quantity. So really concentrate on a small passage and repeat that, when you get to a point where you feel you're not progressing, or are even going backwards a little. Stop, play something you have already got comfortable with, saturate with that. You'll know when to go back to the piece you were after, and each time you do this you'll take a step forward.
