I had a Kobelco 210 that had a defective swing brake and would take off to the left and not stop. Talk about scary, the whole house on the machine would just go round and round until you shut the key off or slammed the cab entrance lever down. A laborer got in it one day, and smashed the side of a pickup truck to all hell telling me "the machine just took off and wouldn't stop". I didn't believe him of course, but sure enough. Ended up replacing about every spool valve until we found the correct one. Thankfully Kobelco took back the unused ones. I'm suprised you found the issue so easily.
Chad Harzbarger, that would be terribly scary. Did it have a broken spring in one of the spool valves? I know that can cause a function to operate constantly because the spool doesn't stay centered. Also, it wasn't so easy to find. We fought the problem for a few months before narrowing it down.
Your very conscientious about your repair videos and I really like that! No sense in doing them half assed. Although I don't work on that type of hydraulic systems I still learned from the video so thanks a bunch.
Jeff Pratt, I have learned that even the small parts are equally as important as the big parts. Sometimes just as expensive too. Hope you have a great Easter weekend too.
@@ToTheTopCrane It's the same way whether it's big hydrolic mechanics or the electronics I deal with. It's never that big simple easy-to-solder part that goes bad on a circuit board, its that little tiny part the size (literally) of 2 grains of salt, that decides to die. Try removing and replacing one of those by hand. ;-)
great video! tip take a photo of what you are taking apart from many angles so you can get it put back right, they give you a lot of space to work in Grins
G4 Outdoors, that's ok. I completely understand. 33 minutes is a long video. My channel has been gaining some popularity this past week. I'm humbled by, and appreciate everyone helping me grow so quickly.
You don't have to remove the retainer clips on the wire connector. Push in on them toward the connector and they release. Those coils are another quirk of German engineering. They don't make anything bigger than it needs to be to do the job under ideal conditions. The magnetic pull of the coil lessens under heat and the valves can expand from heat also. Winter average temperatures in Germany are around freezing with summer averages around 72F. The extreme temperatures in Germany range from 5 to 95 F so they are designing for that range. A slightly larger coil would increase the pull. The wire in the coils is also very small and they burn out often. We stocked a couple of each different sized coils for our Liebherr machines.
Tired old mechanic, I completely brain farted on the retaining clip. Lol. I need to follow your lead and keep a few extra coils on the machine. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
walter mattson, I've been operating this crane for about a year and a half. I've been a mechanic and operator for going on 23 years. Thanks for watching! 🙂
having issues with Terex servo valve s pulsing. Turned out to be Terex plumbed the AC HYD motor into swing hoist valve causing feedback into HYD system. I disconnected AC belts on HYD motor and now ok. To help anyone with Terex T340xl. Also LMI box gets full of water under boom base. Check it.
james norse, after changing the spool, I haven't had any issues. I think it was sticking due to heat. Our Manitex 50128 boom trucks have the A/C plumbed in with the swing circuit. If you are swinging when the compressor kicks off or on, you can feel it affect swing. Manitex has issued an adjustment procedure to help smooth things out some.
To The Top Crane We had a Manitex 40124 nice but AC was so loud. We put a small window AC 5000btu in rear window of old grove with a 2000Honda generator on house tied on. Works great and cheap quiet AC. Also CAT service has Nitrogen fill on service trucks .
james norse, we've done the window unit thing too! Lol. Seems to be a popular, inexpensive fix. I didn't know that Cat keeps nitrogen on their service trucks. We keep a nitrogen service kit at our shop.
Was the stem heated front HYD oil or electric 12v coil? Jump oil cooler fan on continuous see if issue stops. Low voltage causes increase in Temp also.High temp reduces magnetic flux reducing power of magnet to activate valve also. Had alot of these valves stick from debris etc.
james norse, I think the spool was getting hung up inside the stem and not moving all the way into the coil. Which was causing the coil to overheat and creating a snowball effect. The last time the swing brake wouldn't release, I pulled the coil off and the stem was so hot that I could't touch it. I didn't shoot it with my temp gun, but I'm estimating 300 F or so. Since I replaced the valve, I haven't had any issues from it.
+James Chris Beck, accumulators can be very dangerous if not handled correctly. I saw his videos on accumulators. I may have even mentioned "safety glasses" to him. Lol. Thanks for watching!

Love the explainations. Detailed enough for those of us that dig that, but layman enough for those who aren't engineer minded.

Mark Mortensen, thanks for the feedback. 🙂
Always amazing how a small part can rule the function of a huge piece of equipment. Have a great Easter weekend.

Bleu Wolf, I sometimes take pics of what I'm working on during disassembly. It definitely comes in handy at times.
Great job explaining it. Keep up the videos
Mike Rood, thank you! I'll keep making videos as long as people keep watching them. 🙂
Sorry Jimmy, I skipped out early. lol. I can only take so much school. Excellent and informative video for sure! 243 SUBS!?!?!?!

Another great job. Wonderful video. How have you learned so much about this crane? How long have you been the operator.

How has the brake release been working? I am sure you have had plenty HOT weather since you fixed?
logger wade was messing with a smaller accumulater on his truck rig.
