Fox Hunt - Part 3 - Shannon County Film Digitization Project

Camera roll 323 is one of seven rolls (321, 322, 323, 324, 325, 326, 327) filmed during an early morning fox hunt with Seaman Rayfield, Edward Piatt, and Edward's nephew, Eugene. While the fox hunt provides a setting for this series of rolls, most of the footage consists of conversations among the participants and responses to questions asked by the filmmakers. The material covers a wide range of topics, often with humor, and often in the form of a story. In roll 323, Seaman and Edward talk about Dorrie, a dog that Seaman had given Edward, and one of the smartest dogs they had ever known. After a brief interruption by a neighbor who stopped to talk, Edward and Seaman talk about dogs as pets and explain their respective attitudes towards their own dogs, and how a July hound loves his master. In the last half of the roll they discuss the important skill of judging a litter of pups, describing the characteristics they look for and the techniques they use to pick the best of the litter. Footage shot on May 31, 1979, in Shannon County, Missouri.
