  • Camera roll 322 is one of seven rolls (321, 322, 323, 324, 325, 326, 327) filmed during an early morning fox hunt with Seaman Rayfield, Edward Piatt, and Edward's nephew, Eugene. While a fox hunt provides the setting for this series of rolls, most of the footage consists of conversations among the participants and responses to questions asked by the filmmakers. The material covers a wide range of topics, often with humor, and often in the form of a story. In roll 322, Seaman and Edward start out talking about the distinctive "mouths" of their dogs and about the lineage of their hounds. The conversation then turns to the way dogs face dying, with Seaman describing how his prefer to go off by themselves when they are about to die. Both men then talk about their experiences breeding and selling dogs, the effect that fox hunting has had on their marriages, and how they got started hunting. The last part of the roll is conversation between Seaman and Edward about the cleverness of foxes, and the personalities and hunting prowess of some of the dogs they have owned. Footage shot on May 31, 1979, in Shannon County, Missouri.
Part of the raw footage recorded 1978-1979 for the 1981 documentary motion pictures "Shannon County: Home" and "Shannon County: Hearts of the Children." Located in Special Collections, Meyer Library, Missouri State University.

Yes, a fox can climb a tree. We've treed them. They've won the day, & we head back to the stables.

@@equine2020 That’s how them damn coyotes came to the southeast US. Fox hunters got tired of the fox going underground so they bought yotes for their running pens BUT they didn’t know the yotes could climb the high fence. Plague to the land.
