- Miloslav Mecir is a former professional tennis player from Slovakia. He won the men's singles gold medal at the 1988 Olympic Games. He was a finesse player whose career straddled the transition from wooden and metal racquets towards modern graphite composites. He was noted for his touch shots as well as the ability to disguise his shots, particularly his two-handed backhand. His nickname : "The Big Cat".
To this day, although there have of course been many players better and more accomplished than Mecir, there is still nobody that I would rather watch play. He was so economical, elegant, and efficient on the court.
Short backswing
Mecir was a genius
Yes he was. We won't see anyone playing like this anymore.
Just beautiful to watch Mecir. Could make players look stupid the way he could move them around the court.
Fantastic,thanks of heart for this.
Paul Morphy tenisu...
After I saw this match vs Lendl as a teenage kid, I was inspired to hit hundreds of two-hand backhands against my neighborhood wall, which made that shot my bread and butter! I wanted to be as smooth as Mecir.
He moved so smoothly and quickly and had such touch. Loved to see him play, especially against Edberg.
Great at attacking the volley, making a step towards the net so fast!
Je l'ai vu de près, contre Wally Masur, à Roland... Le Picasso du tennis, le Guillaume Tell.
Mecir resembles so much with Medvedev 😊
career horribly cut short by a chronic back injury.
Yeah. Injuries are a bitch. Glenn Michibata said that playing Mecir was like "bleeding to death." How true.
Please Stop naming these videos " tribute to", I keep thinking the person died. 😅
Sorry ...
