Will you are a darling thank you so much. Best tutorial iv seen on vocals. I was unfortunate not to have done your course but if people ask me I always send them to you.
Super video here Will. Your structure and voice over is spot on. You keep momentum but equally don't go too fast where we need to keep rewinding. Very helpful you mentioned which third party plugins you could use, but you do everything with stock. This is the best video I've seen on vocal mixing... Looking forward to more videos from you as Ableton 11 gets it's final release!
I'm actually mixing my vocals right now too bad the vocalist mixed and compressed everything already as there is some amazing stuff in here! that reverb sidechain trick is amazing though! Great tutorial Will! :)
great video Will. Would love more on recording vocal stuff as well. It's something i'm dying to get into. I do have one question, when writing a track with a singer, how would one go about that, write the track first and get the singer to write the words for the track or the other way around?
Thanks! Ok...I'll look into doing one on recording, too :) In answer to your question: I've worked both ways! I prefer to get the vocals first, usually, as it's easier to start with something.
Would like to know the correct volume at which the vocals needs to ve recorded at in relation to the instrumental especially if the instrumental is lowered to - 6db to leave room for the vocals to be recorded at. Can the recorded vocals be recorded at a peak of - 6db or does it need to be lower?
What exactly are you supposed to do with the harmony part? How many semitones are you supposed to transpose it? Is it supposed to match the melody of the track?
really helpful thank you.... obviously professional quality vocals from a talented singer is the way to go to get the vocals in the first place, but I'm wondering if there are any product/equipment recs to help the average person make better vocals. I'd like to be able to record "descent" quality vocals just as temporary placeholders for projects. I'm currently just using a gaming mic and it sounds terrible, like bad karaoke and ruins the whole vibe of the track. I'm not a singer by any means and I don't expect to do my own vocals but there has to be a way to get better sounding DIY vocals...
I'm trying to have a crack at harmonising but my audio warp/complex pro tab is set to a "Gain" and "Pitch" setup instead of a "Transpose (octave)" and "Gain" setup like yours, how do I change it? Thanks!
Hi!! thank you very much for this tutorial! Is the first time I notice that you put in the third place an EQ ...Ive always worked first Eq...and the the rest of plugins.. Is there a reason for this?
I think this would be a really helpful tutorial if we could see what you’re clicking on.. or if you would at least tell us. I had to stop watching after 4 minutes because it’s impossible to follow what you’re doing.

Great Work again Will, going to remember that tip of using a compressor on the reverb to duck it while the lead is singing 😉👍
You bet! It's a killer tip :)

Thank you so much!! really helpful video :D
Great stuff man!
Loved this one! Thank u
You're welcome! 🙂
HI WIll! THis is great, as always! - I honestly think you could probably devote an entire course only on vocal processing & vocal mixing :-)
Thanks! At the moment we focus on it in the Masterclass, but I agree - it could be a n in-depth standalone course as not everyone works with vocals.
Great Vid, Will!
Really good stuff man thanks
No problem!
you can actually use "insert take lane" instead than insert new audio track when you record vocal for comping
What exactly are you supposed to do with the harmony part? How many semitones are you supposed to transpose it? Is it supposed to match the melody of the track?
You can work out chords before-hand in the piano roll editor with an instrument, and use that as a template for the vocals.

Thank you. Very useful!
Amen darling ;) Very clean and simple explanation. Btw, is that Live 11 that you're using?

thanks again. (amen break brother). why does saturation always sound robotic on this vocal im working on? haha.
This is great, thanks!
Thank you!
You bet! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙌🏻
Hi!! thank you very much for this tutorial! Is the first time I notice that you put in the third place an EQ ...Ive always worked first Eq...and the the rest of plugins.. Is there a reason for this?
Can I ask why you used first compressor in RMS mode if you are trying to tame the peaks? Thanks
In a word, sloppiness!
Super super helpful! ❤️🙏❤️
Very much appreciated! :)
I read somewhere that the vocals should always be in mono, so does it make sense to put an utility plugin on the vocals and set it to mono?
i love that big willy poster on the fireplace
😎
you the best bro thx
You're welcome!
should the compressor not be pre-fx if it's using the dry lead as trigger?
Much love this man no how to mix like crazy tight thanks a lot ..ytyoungthugg Bay Area
You're welcome! 🙂
really nice tips
Oh Will, it's me again. Do you not Gain Stage at all? 🤨
Yeah...all the time!
Does it sound like that throughout the song or just the chorus. It sounds to huge for the verse.
THANK YOU
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed :)
What was the auto tune plugin u used melodine?
Very usefull
Thanks for watching!
Are you using some sort of beta from live 11?
I am indeed!
@@EDMTips Nice way to show off comping then!
But you have to eq the vocals first before adding any compressor or saturator right?
Well, if needs be. Definitely before the compressor.
Awesome
I really enjoyed videos on how to make the last thing he knows you haven't made 1 why not??
Eh? I don't understand the question
❤
heck yeah
BOOM! 🙌🙌
