- Based on the Ruger Mark IV 22/45 pistol, the Volquartsen Black Mamba is a customised 22lr that is perfect for plinking and competition range shooting. I had zero issues with it, it's accurate and a heap of fun to shoot.

Nice timing, I just picked mine up on Thursday and got it to the range on Saturday. Very happy.
As always an informative video. I bought a t3x as my first rifle specifically from your video
and how's the Tikka going for you?
@@ozziereviews to be completely honest I have no reference frame to compare to as being 18 it’s my first rifle and has been outfitted with a kahles scope. Regardless, every time I cycle the action I do feel the exceptional quality- makes me pretty giddy haha
Thanks for another excellent review Ozzie, I am going to upgrade my 22/45 Lite with one of these llv uppers after having some feeding troubles with the stock set up. I have ordered the 5.5in but thinking I should have grabbed the 7. Keep up the good work mate love what your doing 🇦🇺
Best bit about Volquartsen is you can buy all the parts yourself. Regular old Ruger standard with their trigger and bolt parts shoots every bit as good as their fpistols ;)
Seeing the evolution in the design of firearms really is one of the things that makes me love em. I like that pistols are actually evolving beyond the 1911. I'd love one day to make a .223 version of something like that just for fun
They make AR "pistols" in barrel lengths of 5.5 inches. It would be awesome if they could find a way to do it in a handgun, without it being ridiculously front heavy.
@@Catgat37 You can't shrink the AR bolt carrier which is kinda at heart of that problem.
@@RNA0ROGER the biggest problem is the mag. You couldn't fit it in the grip and be able to get your hands on it. There has gotta be a way though. And yes, I am aware that there are actual 5.56 handguns out there. But you and I both know that we are talking about a semiautomatic design that takes stanag mags.
@@Catgat37 I think you could lean the grip forward. But then again that would be considered a defacto brace
Nice shooting
I have a mini mamba with oculus can. Probably the best suppressed 22 platform
They are a great pistol. I have one in the same colour, it has won many a competition!
Factory compensator works extremely well in rapid fire conditions, settles the muzzle back on target very quickly, perfect for HV ammunition.
any accuracy differences between the 6in and 4.5 inch barrels?
@@mattrae3808 I don't think most shooters are accurate enough to be able to notice a difference. Shorter sight radius would be the only real trade-off, balance is actually a little better with the short version. Velocity loss would be fairly negligible, especially for 22lr pistol target distances. If you intended to use a red dot, the short barrel would serve you just as well as the long barrel.
What colour is this?
@@guts1cnt The cerakote is Tungsten, I believe it would be H237 by Cerakote.
was hoping for the ruger charger review first but still enjoyed the video
Ha! I just finished editing it, it'll be up soon enough, I'll be pumping them out over the next 2 weeks...
Great review olmate! What are the chances of you checking out the Winchester Model 70 Super Grade?
Cool gun. Clean that mat, mate.
🔥🔥🔥
Does this version qualify for ISSF pistol matches? I've been looking at the 4.5" which seems to tick all the ISSF boxes, but I think this 6" might also just make it too, as long as the compensator is not attached... Can you confirm or deny this?
I Cant seem to find the overall length of these pistols without the compensator included, which seems to be about an inch or perhaps an inch and a half long, I didnt measure it when I was in the shop taking a gander, as it did not occur to me at the time...
I realize its probably a better idea to get the more Olympic specification oriented ones, with the big custom carved wooden encapsulating grips, etc. if you get into the upper echelons of competition, but I am looking for a good option to get started without having to drop 5-6k on an Olympic .22lr pistol.
Plus, if it turns out I am shit at pistol competitions, then I will just have a fun option for a more casual competitive shooting experience...
Would greatly appreciate your insights mate, thanks for the videos, love the content.
I ordered a Mamba TF at Cleavers early October. Still waiting.
Well did the same to me. Waited 4 months though. Just make sure they mention the right name in the gun registry. I got my PTA as black Jamba and cleavers had some strange name registered for it. Lucky my gun shop was able to fix the name in registry and get it issued for me as black mamba!
How can you shoot a CAT H on a property?? Unless this is a private range how do you get the greenlight on a private range?
Check out 22 plinkster’s vids with this pistol, the guys a trick shot genius.
Hey Ozzy. Great video as always. You make very detailed reviews and your opinion is always valued. I would love to see a Glock 44 review if you can get your hands on one. All the best.
Where did you get the muzzle guard to replace the compensator that you took off?
Are the barrels like the 10/22 where you can't load CCi Stinger ammo? Been a few years hows the 22 doing?
Hello Ozzy, can you tell me what finish that is on the pistol?
Ruger Pistol MK111 Choice! In Old Days! perfect Then with barrell weight! Yeh !988+ ,History Good! An Before dated! !! We did our Range time! Great!
Bloody cool pistol! Bit exxy for a .22 but looks quality.
Yep it is, but it's just awesome, so accurate and just fun
Hey ozzie, what's your opinion on blued vs stainless barrels for an all round hunting rifle?
Stainless shines in the sun and off the spotlight .. giving it away...
@@drewharry970 yeah cheers. Mate but I thought blue barrels rust easily from wet weather and need regular maintenance.
So which would you choose?
@@nolixss694 lol maybe the old blued rifles do. No problem with the tikka barrels*
@@drewharry970 so if you use a blued barrel in the rain it wont rust?
@@nolixss694 SS can rust* I wipe down and oil my rifle instinctively*
I've shot pistols but I'm a long way off from getting a licence to own one unfortunately.
The hammer/pin, that thing on the back looks troublesome.
Looks weird & looks like it could catch up in something by accident easily.
We have 2 off these at the club & are fantastic pistols the rear of the bolt your saying about would never catch on anything the way it’s machined it’s very comfortable to grab & cycle a round very compact way better than the original Ruger one cheers
@@waynebfr8953 Great reply.
Beautiful looking gun & a great collectors item.
FYI. In Australia only cleavers import & sell them.
I really want to shoot pistols but the hoops you seem to have to go through just don’t seem worth it. And to not be able to shoot it on your own land (I’m in NSW)
Also great review Aussie Thankyou for all the work you do with your reviews for us!
It’s not that bad. I’m in Victoria. Takes 6-10 sessions at your local range over 1 year period.
Just get your Cat H bro, it's worth it.
I'm in the same boat and in Victoria too. I just can't justify the hoops for the benefit. Great if you've got the opportunity, but I stick to hunting and shooting centre-fire/rimfire at the range. Would love to go down the path, but just way too much hassle I think.
@@skay9443 if you live close to a pistol club its really easy. i live 20mins from Springvale SSPC. So its very easy.
Wow, you are allowed to have auto pistols in Oz?
Whats the colour name for this one ?
TUNGSTEN
Hey Big fella I went to the SSAA pistol club at west ipswich ( where I’m a member) to do a shoot this morning ( Saturday) and I was denied access to the range due to not having the secret sauce or the app on a phone. I’ve also heard they will not allow you access to the shop upstairs either. Plus I’ve heard recently the same applies to Belmont & Ripley ranges.....perhaps you know , dunno 🤷♂ Trev👍
I though qld was pretty good with letting people through in NSW you don’t need anything 🤷♂️
@@william6815 Hey mate so did I . This is the first time I’ve ever experienced this. Looks like I’ll have to join another club so I can do my 8 compulsory shoots per annum. I got layed off in December 16th 2021 due to the mandates as I’m a carpenter and I was working on a public school. I didn’t work for 3 months after but I finally got a job last week 👍
Did this affect you long term Trev?
@@FerventReminder 🇦🇺😎👍Over all it costed $200,000 in lost wages due to not being able to get a job. As for the pistol club and associates, I cancelled my membership an moved on never to never return. I am still trying to catch up financially but I have a 100% bill of good health with no regrets
Just gotta figure out how to get a cat H 😅
A private approved range
Flash bit of gear
This is not a good pistol for ISSF matches. Sigths are too high. Non adjustable trigger times.
Terrible accuracy at 10 metres, hopefully it's not the pistol as I'm thinking of getting one.😊
After the WA bullshit I'm selling my tikka t3x 223 and getting a air gun.
Careful posting this mate… pretty sure you can’t shoot anywhere other than a range in QLD. 🤔
With a pistol that is! Stupid rule I know but something to check!
@@fineshooter50 I’m sure other people do it anyways lol
Hence why I’m using it on an approved range
@@notmkr-busta2937 yeah I know. Just don’t want him to lose his license. Took me a year to get my H.
@@fineshooter50 fair man, Im just waiting to get my junior a and b photo taken, wished i could get junior h but I didn’t know anyone who could take me, planning to get it ASAP
