Germany's Only Skyscraper City - Frankfurt am Main

- Frankfurt am Main, also known as ‘Mainhattan’ is the only city in Germany with lots of inner-city skyscrapers. In the past, high-rises were primarily used as bank and office buildings, but now there is a trend towards living in them. This year, Frankfurt am Main saw the completion of the country’s tallest residential tower: the Grand Tower. Several other large-scale projects are currently under construction. In times of rising real estate costs, building skyscrapers seems to be a promising way to go.

Please note: The buildings in the beginning of the video are the tallest residential buildings, there are of course higher buildings (office buildings) in Frankfurt.

Great city. Been there for my work for two weeks. Just the perfect city size, extremely functional, easy to move around, great surroundings and villages in close proximity. Thinking of moving there permanently (London surroundings are not as beautiful).
Frankfurt needs a Central Park
In Frankfurt is a very similar park to the Central Park: the Taunusanlage ^^
@@mats3113 The entire former Wallanlagen could be seen as "Central Park", which is subdived into Gallusanlage, Taunusanlage, Eschneheimeranlage, Friedbergeranlage (mit Bethmannpark), and Obermainanlage.

WoW! That really was quality research for the content of this Video. The Grand Tower and the Omni Tower are the latest aditions to the skyline and by far not the tallest Buildings. Thats still the Comerzbank Tower and the Messturm. 🤣

@@dweuromaxx also the 230 meter building will be an office tower. The higher one of the two residential buildings will be about 170 meters and therefore not be Germany’s highest one

Obviously the penthouses aren't for career starters. Presales actually had studios for just a couple hundred thousand.

No shortage of appartements for the well-to-do and affluent. Now, for environmental reasons it would be better if _more_ people would live in cities, but then we need housing payable for the _average_ person.
More affluent people living in apartments frees up a lot of land for the average person and lowers the demand for housing which in the end results in a lower price of homes. It's a win-win either way but u have a point it would be nice too if there were more low-cost high-rises being built for the middle class

bringt halt relativ wenig wenn die wolkenkratzer leer stehen weils sich keiner leisten kann, der grand tower z.B. ist fast komplett dunkel am abend weil keiner drin wohnt, die teueren Wohnungen kaufen meistens ausländische Investoren zum Geld parken.

Grand Tower and Omni Turm are NOT the tallest buildings in town. It is clearly the Commerzbank Tower with 259 Meters and the Messeturm with 256 meters...bad research guys!

They should really revitalize Frankfurt 21, but also restore the HBF to its original design with 3 halls, which could free up space along the sides for taxis, so the Bahnhofplatz could be turned into a park. Considering what the tallest of the Four project sold for, I'd think the economics have changed since the original plan was dropped. Also, the buildings around the Bahnhofplatz should really be restored. It's the first impression many people get of Germany outside of the airport. Plus, move the junkies somewhere else. They're seriously spoiling the area.
Whenever you think of Europe you don't think of skyscrapers but Frankfurt is different.

Frankfurt kann so schön sein in den gemütlichen Stadtteilen. Diese Schnösel-Welt der Innenstadt dagegen erregt bei mir eher Brechreiz.

@Matthias Aber die Infrastruktur wird ausgebaut. Außerdem das Rmv netz ist radikal auf Frankfurt ausgerichtet. Deshalb wird auch die Infrastruktur sowohl in der Region als auch selbst die kernstadt weiter ausgebaut. Nur so als Tipp: Reginaltagente west, Fernahntunnel, neue bahnhöfe, tram in die umliegende Gemeinde, u bahn Terrasse in den umliegende Gemeinde, Reginaltagente ost, Reginaltagente Süd und vieles mehr. Andere Metropolen in Deutschland können nur von so vielen Infrastruktur projekte nur träumen. In andere Metropolen sieht das ganze nicht besser aus.
Wenn du die reginalstadt Frankfurt als eine Stadt bezeichnst, ist die Infrastruktur schon viel ausgebauter als in Berlin der Fall ist. Aber wenn du nur die kernstadt bezeichnst, ist es klar das andere Metropolen vielleicht mehr haben aber nichts desto trotz, bezeichne ich nicht nur die Kernstadt sondern die reginalstadt, dann ist es mehr als man eigentlich benötigt und viel mehr als in Berlin bespeichelsweise.
@Matthias Frankfurt ist ein Fernbahntunnel für 3,5 Mrd geplant. Der Hbf wird in Frankfurt ebenfalls geplant. Außerdem ist Frankfurt mehr Metropole als München.
Frankfurt ist ist die Geographische Mitte Deutschlands als auch Europas. Der Frankfurter hbf ist nach Hamburger hbf der größte hbf Deutschlands.
The Omniturm is poorly designed - the huge column in the living area is terrible. In London we have many residential towers and none of them which I have seen is so poorly designed inside.

Außerdem noch ein kleinerer andere Tower neben an.
Der elbtower wird trotzdem eines der größten in ganz Deutschland sein außerhalb von Frankfurt und ist für 245m ein Gigant für Hamburgs „ersten“ Wolkenkratzer. Sag mir nicht Frankfurt hat auch mir 245m gestartet ;)
Btw, der 245m Rohbau wird auch optisch größer und höher wirken als der Commerzbank Tower mit seiner Antenne und nicht nutzbarer Fläche, sowie größer erscheinen als der Messturm mit ihrer pyramid Attrappe auf den Kopf gesetzt(wie so ein Papphut)

@@bedig7849 naja ich finde höher als der Messeturm wird er nicht wirken. Der Messeturm ist ein Kunstwerk. Er wurde bereits im Jahr 1990 fertiggestellt und ist mit Abstand einer der schönsten high rise Projekte in Europa.

Eigentlich ne schande in Zeiten von Mietpreisbremse und Mangel an Sozialwohnungen solche Gebilde aufzurichten. Nicht nur das die Stadt solche Projekte zulässt sondern demonstrativ in die Skyline stellt ist besorgniserregend.
Unfug! Sozialismus haben wir schon genug. Es muss auch Angebote für Reiche geben. Der Grand Tower ist ein geniales Meisterwerk und der finanziert sich halt nicht durch Sozialwohnungen. Irgendjemand muss den Spaß ja bezahlen. Mietpreisbremse gibt es auch nur im sozialistischen Berlin.
@@leonwagner4385 Mag sein das der Grand Tower schönes Wohnen ermöglicht, ich halte trotzdem nichts davon Wohnprojekte solcher Art in die Skyline zu stellen. Gerne würde Ich mur eine Wohnung für ne Mille kaufen, aber nicht zur Anschau derer die sich solche Wohnungen nicht leisten können und oder wollen. Oder vielleicht doch ?

Entweder man baut einen Turm, womit die Investitionen der Reichen ordentlich übereinandergestapelt werden, oder man baut sowas nicht und die Reichen kaufen sich dann halt ein paar dutzend Altbauwohnungen, schmeißen die Mieter raus und bauen dann da Ihre Luxusapartments rein. Wenn man für bezahlbahre Mieten in den Städten ist, sollte man nicht gegen solche Wohntürme kämpfen.
@@MTobias So gesehen macht das Sinn. Hochhäuser bauen und Reiche einziehen lassen. Aber die Realität ist eine ganz andere. In Frankfurt und anderswo werden neben den Hochhäusern zigtausende Neubauprojekte hochgezogen. Die Wohnungen in den Hochhäusern sind schnell weg. 100 Einheiten ? Kein Problem ! Es ist ja nicht so das Investoren Geld und die Stadt Fläche für solche Bauten haben wie Sand am Meer.
Wenn's nach euch geht sollten Projekte wie in Frankfurt der Maßstab sein. Aber das Verhältnis stimmt doch nicht. Ich finde schlicht die Einstellung falsch.
Hochhäuser dämpfen nicht die Mietpreise oder schaffen oder erhalten bezahlbaren Wohnraum. Außerdem sind das Eigentumswohnungen, das heisst sie tragen rein garnichts zum Mietverhältnis in der Stadt bei. Frankfurt macht einen Schritt in die falsche Richtung und dabei bleibe Ich.
Mein Vorschlag:
Baut den Trump-Tower mit einer Baufläsche gleich den Pyramiden und einer Höhe von 1000m. Reine Wohnfläche.
@@Greenmile-lw9il du verstehst den Markt nicht. Preise steigen, wenn es ein Unterangebot gibt, also weniger Wohnungen angeboten werden als nachgefragt werden. In den meisten Städten Deutschlands wird einfach zu wenig gebaut. Solche Wohntürme sind einfach Teil der Lösung mehr Wohnungen in allen möglichen Preissegmenten zu schaffen. Ein einziger Turm löst das Problem nicht, er trägt aber zur Lösung bei.

No, 8 million was the price for the penthouse of the grand tower. The Apartment you saw was in a different building and not on top.
Disgusting. we don't need them, we need affordable Living Space which is up for rent, adding real value for the Community.
For example the opportunity to create local business, and encourage the social interaction between the Inhabitants, that would enhance the quality of living for the people, not this Real Estate Cash Grabs.
