    I won a goldfish at my local fairgrounds during June for 10 bucks by me getting it in the hole. I brought it home and I put it on my tank. It was really healthy, despite the heat that came along with it. He has a white "muzzle" and is still alive today, living a happy and great life.
    Without us, he could have gotten sick and exhausted from the heat and could have died, we brought him into a air conditioned environment with a tank already ready for them.

    I’m happy I came across your video here. I had my nephews that went to a carnival a week ago and got 12 free goldfish that the carnival was closing. So I got a tank, filter, etc. but was curious how to take care of these fishes since this was my first time owning fishes. But this is so much helpful about what to do, I’ve been researching a lot

      Looks like this was yesterday but I have to say that your fridge filter may not remove all the chlorine or chloramine from your water so you still should treat it with a good water conditioner like Prime. I’ve tested my fridge filter and it did not remove it very well. I hope your fish do great! Mine are still around and the biggest one is around 7-8” long.

    I got a fish from the carnival and on the first night we had him, he would only swim in circles and kept tipping on his side. I spent around three to four hours trying to keep that fish upright. Eventually his condition sorted itself and we got a good tank for him. The only thing that killed him in the end was a tank ornament that fell on him. It was lightweight but not light enough for him to get out from underneath, and I don't know how it fell over, but it did. It happened while I was asleep so I couldn't save him this time :(

    We won a gold fish at the carnival. Completely unplanned. I have no idea how to take care of it, I've never had fish before. I thought we'd just grab a cheap bowl and some pretty rocks. Imagine my surprise when I saw how much Angel (my 8 year old named her) actually needs. Hopefully she lives because as soon as she got home we dumped her in a random bowl of water (it was late) until we could get to the pet store. Then I googled it and yeah... you're not supposed to do that.

Unfortunately the fish keeps going to the top I’m assuming for oxygen. Nervous it won’t last another 24 hours in that tank. The fish was already 2.5 inches so it’s not gonna fair well in that little tank.

    I don't know what I would do without a test kit. I've kept fish for 30 years in a 29-gallon with mixed results not knowing about the nitrogen cycle. That changed a couple years ago. For the last few years I've had goldfish in a 55-gallon. I have 5 shubnkin, 2 fantails and a butterfly telescope goldy. I recently bought a 75-gaIlon to transfer them as the largest fish are over 6". I have lots of Amazon swords and pothos clippings to help with ammonia as well as some decor from the old tank. Even some bottled bacteria, but the filter was new. When I got to 4 fish the nitrites spiked. I waited a week for it to balance and added another. It took me a month of adding bacteria, water changes, etc. before everyone moved out, but without testing I might easily have lost some fish. Now I have an empty 55-gallon that's fully cycled that as of yesterday, has 4 female bettas, 6 harlequin rasboras, a bristle nose pleco and 3 rainbow paecox. Looking forward to adding other small schooling fish and given it's planted and cycled I have more freedom to go crazy than ever before.

    • @FishyReview
      @FishyReview  2 месяца назад

      That’s good stuff that other fish keepers could learn from. My usual approach is to have lots of excess area for good bacteria to grow and I don’t see spikes as I add fish unless the pH drops to 6 or less and then the good bacteria are a lot less active. Hope you enjoy your new setup!

    My daughter won a fish. Then I looked into how to care for it and realized how much go's into a gold fish. And now I just feel bad that the fish is suffering. I bought a small fish tank that's for Beta fish and put rocks and a spongebob house in it. And so stuff to treat the water. But that's no where near what it needs, so I just feel like I'm torturing this fish. Then it also got me thinking about all the other poor carnival fish.

    • @FishyReview
      @FishyReview  Год назад

      I don’t know if large pond goldfish would eat the small ones you won, but maybe your friend has an opinion on that. Most fish will eat any fish they can fit in their mouths, so that’s a valid concern. You could start with a 10 or 20 gallon tank and you can get it cheap by buying used on something like Facebook marketplace. If they do well. you can move up to a larger tank later. They’re really fun fish to watch and I like them a lot more than I expected. Good luck to you and I hope it all works out!

      There are definitely a couple ways to look at this. Yes many of the fish aren’t going to make it. But also some will make it and it might be the thing that gets a kid (or the parent) interested in the hobby. I wanted to make this video because I know it’s hard for someone with no experience to suddenly take on caring for a new goldfish and there’s a ton of bad information out there.
