When I was a kid in Michigan, we had a Goldfish in a bowl on the dinning room table. We left for 3 days in the winter and came back the find the Goldfish Bowl was frozen solid. Once the house was warmed up and the ice had melted, the Goldfish was back swimming around and lived several yrs longer.
I recently rescued my first goldfish from a tiny dirty bowl I'm pretty sure she was at deaths door, she's doing great now and she somehow managed to make it to 10 years old In her old poor environment
My friend put FOUR goldfish in a 5 gallon tank!!! I kept telling her that that was DEFINITELY not enough but she said that the pet store knew more than I did :(
i work at a petsmart!! what pet store is letting people buy goldfish for mini tanks? we're always told to ask how large someone's tank is and we never sell goldies to the tiny tank owners >:0
My now massive Goldfish of 14 year-old is on his 4th Tank as it is massive being in a good big tank, then just 2 days ago bought a new Filter + Tank even bigger also with an assortment of real planters now ''now is one very happy massive fish'' ...Great Video 10/10 ...Thanks
If that's distracting to you Bev, that might be the least of your problems. Such as the idea to reply to a positive comment, with your negative one. Best of luck to you.
Wow! I want to start up a Goldfishtank and looked up a lot, everyone says something else, but your information is the best so far! I already bought some stuff, but now I will return it, for the future sake of my goldies. Thank you for sharing your experience!!
They're really great pets, super low maintenence (no walking, no training, etc) and its amazing to watch them grow. They're very cute, I'd reccomend them.
Goldfish eat A Lot. and go to the bathroom A Lot. Everything you feed will remain in the tank as rotting food or rotting waste. You must be able to handle all of this. I don't think this is low maintenance bruh😅
9 months ago I began my adventures in this hobby. I watched a lot of the content you put up and am truely greatful. Sadly I have commons and not getting a lid was very bad. After my younger of two tankmates jumped out I will definitely advise that lids ARE important.
You have been EXTREMELY helpful, educational, and motivational. I have had larger tropical tanks all my life (Cichlids to Snakeheads), now it is time to go back to my youth and raise goldfish again. The right way this time, your way, they were starter fish back in my day.
I would caution to use a lid when possible. My aunt who I lived with has a 55 gallon tank and her 8 inch goldfish jumped out before she repaired the lid. Thankfully we heard the splash and found him behind the tank before damage was done
that depends on the fish itself, as she had said from her experience none of her fish have tried to leap out of the tank, I have a comet goldfish, and he hasn't jumped out before, but my friend has a fantail and a comet who both have. I suggest if you would like to go lid free do not fill the tank to the brim. I keep my tank a half inch below the rim. my friend mentioned earlier drained her tank by about an inch and the fish stopped jumping out.
Hey, I wanna a goldfish in the future and have a few questions. Is a clear tub better than a solid color one? Also, if I have hang on back filters is it possible to cut holes in the plastic? I have a cat and some dogs and would like to ensure my fishes safety with a lid!
Miss E’s Animals - either colour is fine, but coloured would stop the fish from being spooked often by pets and people, and you can cut into the plastic
I wasn't planning to keep any Goldfish but recently my daughter & my wife both showed interest in Goldfish. So i started to collect data's about goldfish and came across Heidi'e video about goldfish keeping. There she recommended your channel and i am glad that i listened to her. Very well put, detailed and covered a wide verity of topics. I highly appreciate the effort you put into it. Thank you & looking forward to watch more videos in this channel.
I live in a small country, and I never heard of things like cycling a tank, or most of the tools and products you talk about, and I feel like I really learned with you, it is not something the fish shops talk about, maybe it's my own lack of atention, but I am very interested when I go to a store, my fish are luckily happy and healthy, they never got sick, I have a pond with koi fishes and goldfishes for years, but there are so many safety cares and rules you use when introducing new fishes, that I never heard about in real life, to be honest it's been a long time I didn't added new fishes, because they make babies every year and that's the best part of it, but you just taught me so much really, you are so kind to also leave links to order the products online, once again thank you, you enlightened me eheh :) I'm so glad there are people like you so willing to help and teach how to properly care of fishes
Welcome to the goldfish hobby, and I'm glad I could help you! I learned from experience and also from years of constant searching for info online and in books. :) I currently own only three goldfish; a ryukin and two butterfly telescopes.
i remember this was the first video i watched after getting my comet goldfish at a fair. he was rough at the beginning, he was really bloated and was floating horizontally. since adding mela fix and aquarium salt, he's been amazing for almost 6 months! he's thriving in his 10 gallon tank. however, hes going to be upgraded to a 20 in less than a month since he's getting bigger. he love his airstone, duckweed, and moss balls!
This is the most helpful thing I could have possibly watched before setting up my goldie tank. Also, I feel like I just got schooled by my big sister's cool friend, so bonus! (I am somewhat older than you, but your impeccable style makes me feel like a kid.) Thank you so much for taking the time to create & publish such a high-quality video! I thank you, the goldfish of the world thank you, the Internet thanks you.
This video helped me so much, I was considering getting two goldfish but I wasn't sure. Know that I know how to take care of them and that I now know that I have everything. If you have any goldfish name suggestions please feel free to share!!!
I had one of those fairground bag goldfish for around 6 or 7 years that grew to 6"... he jumped out of the tank once. I have no idea how long he was out for, but when we found him we put him back in the water and he lived. We got a mesh lid after that.
I had to do a college project, and because I myself have a 3 year old goldfish, and this video has rocked all the others I had to sit through watching. You mentioned everything I needed to know and I was enjoying what I was watching! Thanks so much for all the help!!
The misinformation in the comment section here is unbelievable. The fish per gallon rules are general rules of thumb, but actual recommended stocking density is based on many different variables and actually can be calculated using formulas based on fish rearing industry standards... These seem to be completely unknown to the home aquarium industry. Variables include "inflow" (which is hard to determine in a home aquarium setting due to the fact there is not usually a constant flow of water, but rather water changes), amount of feed given to fish, (digestion of food not only requires an increase in oxygen consumption due to increase in metabolic rate but also and increase in waste) and temperature as oxygen saturation decreases with increases in temperature. these are just a few of the variables taken into consideration. Also, to those who believe that over-filtration is some sort of remedy for not doing water changes... it is not. Yes it helps with elevated levels of ammonia and nitrite, converting them to the much less toxic nitrate, however no amount of filtration will remove nitrate. There is a point where adding more filtration will have no effect. Lastly, to those saying "my fish have been living like this for multiple years and they are fine" Yes, your fish may seem fine as fish have a "resistance phase" when dealing with stress (poor water quality, low O2 etc) And may have become more resistant to those stresses but they are far from "healthy." Growth will be stunted, lifespan shortened along with many other symptoms. A healthy goldfish can live 20+ years. If you knew someone who only lived to their early thirties and was small, frail and far less energetic would you say they were healthy because they managed to live at least that long and didn't die right away? NO. Fish display poor health in ways that aren't as obvious to us. don't assume.
chris dwyer Great post. Though I wouldn't trust those formulas with fancy goldfish given the risk that even minor stunting can have on these already deformed fish.
Iknow789 valid point, however I feel that stocking density formulas could be modified to fit for fancy goldfish, they could be based on those for standard goldfish or any cyprinidae for that matter and altered to provide the best rearing conditions for fancy goldfish under \certain parameters.
chris dwyer ok so you seem very good in goldfish keeping and I really need your help, this is my first ever fish tank, I have a 20 gallon with 3 baby fancy goldfish and 4 snails (small snails) I have two filters in the tank (a 20 gal and a 10 gal) which creates a lot of oxygen bubbles, I also have 4 plants in the tank My fish recently have been swimming at tilted angles, going to surface for air, and opening and closing their mouths rapidly, one of them also has red spots on their back and on their fin so I added stress relievent (which said it would heal damaged fins ect) but they seem to still be struggling please help me They have also recently started to loose appetite (I’ve found left over food on the bottom of the tank a lot)
Great start up video! My daughter is started with 2 Fancy Goldfish that went from a bowl, to 10 gallon tank which are now going to to 75 Gallon long tank. Watching. Your videos convinced me the 2 original tanks were way too small. Anyhow, the issue I am having with the 10 gallon tank is the levels of Nitrate and Nitrite are non existent however ammonia creeps up daily forcing me to perform almost daily 25-50% water changes. Will using the Prime when filling and starting the new 75 gallon tank help me with cycling outlined in this video? Thanks for doing these...very informative.
Joe Giz (im aware it’s been 3 years) don’t quote me on this, but if there is fish in the 10 gallon, there will always be ammonia, it just depend on how long it takes for it to convert. If the test on the water goes well, I’d put half of it (or all) in your 75! It’ll help the cycle boost start, but it still needs help. Now to the present, How are your goldfish? Hope your tank got sorted out!!
I noticed that you put the clamps an that storage tank, good idea. I was silly and trying to support the underside of my hang on back, too keep it from sagging. I much prefer the way you did it!
Thanks for the recommendation I didn’t even think about getting a used tank, Im going to be looking into some because me and my girlfriend got 4 goldfish that are all tiny babies atm so we will definitely need a bigger tank soon
I have to say this was one of the most informative videos that I have seen in a long time. I will check out your others. I also have to say that your comment section makes for some interesting reading. Thanks!
VERY informative! Glad to see others that dedicate so much time, heart, and energy into the health and longevity of goldfish! I love my fancy oranda goldfish!!!
One of the better videos I have seen.... Ten years it's been on here and first time I think I have seen it.... Keeping goldfish on and off for 37 years give or take a year or so last two years gone back into tropical fish but set up a small budget tank as a demo.....and I am an advocate of doing fish in cycles and I really don't like it when people try to explain the nitrogen cycle and do a half job of it and in fact this kills and makes sick more first timers goldfish than any other newbie tank problems and here is why.... And why I suggest people stop cycling your tanks and add your fish from the start.... In your video you tell people to add ammonia to two parts per million untill the tank is cycled in about a months time and ammonia and nitrates levels are zero.... And that's what's killing off newbies fish and here is why..... If after you cycle your tank at two part per million your bacteria colony grows to deal with that level of ammonia and nitrite.... Bacteria colony only grows to the size of the available food it can eat or convert..... So after a month you add your fish and the fish the uneaten food and fish waste if it adds up to more than the two parts per million of ammonia you supplied during your tank cycling stage say 4 parts per million you have a colony of bacteria that can only convert 2 parts per million so you get a second spike of ammonia followed by a second spike of nitrite..... And because newbies watch these videos for advice etc they think their tank is cycled and it's OK and they don't realise they are getting a second spike of ammonia and nitrite and don't understand why their fish are sick and dying in their cycled to perfection tank.... If you do a fish in cycle correctly the bacteria colony grow to the exact size need to deal with the exact waste being produced.... Providing of course you have supplied enough surface area in your filter so after your tank is cycled properly with the fish in there is never a second ammonia or nitrite spike to harm make sick or kill your new fish.... I wish people would stop making these videos explaining cycling tanks and empty tank cycling.... Without also stating this fact.... That once you have cycled your tank using a certain level or amount of ammonia that once you add your fish expect and be aware if the bio load of your fish is greater than the amount of ammonia you cycled your tank with you will get a second spike and your fish may get sick and your fish may die..... And that once you add your fish your tank is then no longer fully cycled and you must adopt a new mini cycle so to speak.... For at least another 2 - 4 weeks untill your bacteria colony grows even larger to cope with any extra potential bio load or extra ammonia produced above the level you supplied during the cycle..... Anyway hope your still fish keeping bye....
I really enjoyed your video, it was very thorough and answered a lot of questions. You are very knowledgeable and seem to have a lot of experience under your belt. Major points for the info on the substrate, thanks
A very rich video as a Former goldfish owner, I had a problem with sand the anaerobic bacteria is bad, second thing is you are beautiful, even you talked about that gold fish could harm them self with decoration which happened with me
One time my mom got me 15 goldfish and a 30 gallon tank. They all lived for 3 years, and I added more fish, too. They had the babies ^△^ But that was about 5 years ago. I'm glad I found this video because I plan on getting some more fish and I really need to know how to take care of them properly. 😺
goldfish can live for up to twenty years so really your goldfish had tragically short lives :( Good luck with your new fish and please try and give them the best life possible!
I went to my friends' grandma's house and when I went to the basement I was greeted with a bunch of koi in kiddy pools and large tanks. She had moved them there from the pond for the winter so I'd say that's a good place for fish.
Thanks for a great video series! I've kept fish for a lot of years, but it's neat to learn how caring for goldfish can have its own unique challenges and rewards. FYI, not all tap water has chlorine - just all city water :) If you live in the country or on an acreage, you likely have well water with nothing added. Also, when you add bubbles, gas transfer happens while the bubbles are floating up, so you get a lot more benefit than just the surface movement. Thanks again!
Solid Gold Aquatics Hey Jenny! I have a question. I am thinking of purchasing a 1.5 inch calico fantail goldfish from a breeder near me. I am planning on doing this towards the end of the summer, because I want to get all of my research down, and I want to make sure I know everything about the fish before I purchase it so he/she can live a healthy life. I have already started reading many websites and books for tank sizes, and they say 10 gallons is fine. Even though I am planning on only having *one* small goldfish, I should probably keep in mind he will grow (I still have to figure out how much calico fantails grow if they do at all). So i am a little skeptical about what I read about only 10 gallons, so I was wondering if I could have your opinion: *What is the best sized tank for a 1.5 inch calico fantail??* Thank you so much!
sorry I am not Jennie, but i can say from experience that fantails grow to at least 6 inches by the time they are 2 years old. I get that the fish will only be 1.5 inches but he/she wont stay like that for long :) I would say go for something like a 30 gallon, you can get them for 30 bucks at a dollar per gallon sale at petco and pet smart. keep it up with the research, and be willing to wait for the right time to buy the right tank. the larger your tank the smaller the amount of water changes you will have to do.
Danny Bravo Thank you so much! I was definitely thinking of waiting for the dollar per gallon sale, because I want to give the goldfish the best living conditions possible. :) And ya, I agree. I was worried about the goldfish growing and if I placed him in too small of a tank, I could stunt his growth. Thank you so much for all the advice!!
I lost two of my fish from them jumping out there tank..... so trust me it is possible for a fish to jump out of a tank!!! Itss a must to keep a li on the tank
they must have had lice or some worm ..a healthy gold fish doesnt jump ! they jump when parasites get attached to them and irritates them and thts when u see them jumping n rubbing their scales to get rid off those parasites :)
+Radical vibesz I've had two single-tailed goldfish for over a year now and they have never jumped out of their tank. I never put a lid on it and overall I think it's easier for oxygen to enter the tank, plus you can see your fish from above without a lid which is pretty neat. The only reason a goldfish would jump out of a tank would be if it's highly stressed out or frightened. This is caused by poor water quality, small volumes of water, aggresive tank mates, etc.
I recently nursed my baby oranda back to health from the nasty pet store water and within 4 days of him being in a clean, freshly cycled tank, he started getting patterns and I'm pretty sure he's gonna be a 12 point 😊 rescued fish are my favorite.
Great vid! Thanks for posting! I just got a 75 gallon tank and someone is giving me goldfish from his pond he is closing. I feel much better about what I need to do now, thanks so much!
Hi Solid Gold, I have a natural earth pond that is 120 feet across and 14 feet deep at the center. Is this an ok environment for everyday goldfish? I was thinking that I would like to select some nice looking feeder fish and just let them grow up in the pond. What's your opinion on that? There are lots of lilies and natural cover with mostly open surface area. Thanks in advance for your fabulous advice :) Thumbs up on this video!
That's amazing I wish I had the space to do something like that. You could easily get like 100 goldfish I think considering that your pond seems to be thousands of gallons
Incredible that you mention the gravel. As my fush got older it swallowed a piece and I had a panic attack. It lay on the side when I had to jump in. He was fine but what a shock. I changed to smaller sub... and just installed my heater :D thank you
If u r low on budget then u may buy air pump filter with sponge on it. But i only recommend it to smaller fish. Goldfish definitely need a filter with mechanical n biological filtration to maintain a crystal water.
Ronald Calcagno. oh ok i asked because i have a 40 gallan breeder tank with 4 gold fish and i have a really powerfull bubbler and it causes the bubbles to pow faster and i wanna keep that inside the tank
I like Live Plants in my aquariums, mostly because my fish can eat them. it means I feed them less, and so long as I have fast growing plants they never get overtaken by my fish, since I only have 2 goldfish. they also help by putting a bit more O2 into the water, and but using the fish waste as nutrients to grow. my Uncle once said that a good fish tank should mimic an ecosystem in as many ways as possible.
Aquatopia internal filters are one of the best filters on the market at the moment so not all internal filters are bad, in fact a lot of them tend to be powerful
I must be lucky. I've had one of my goldfish nearly a year and all that time my tank has never had a lid and he has never tried to jump out. even my shrimp and nerite snail have never tried to escape
More goldies? XD maybe you could get away with some snails... I know someone who keeps snails with his goldies and they don't really get into fights or anything but I'm not sure if they are not healthy for them to be together
I cannot upgrade any bigger because lack of space in small bedroom. My intention is for a 55 long 48" by 21" high and depth is 12" . This will be home to my once rescued feeders. I raised the fish since September. From tiny things to now 5" gorgeous comets. One is solid orange the other two are white with I noticed a tint of gold in lighting beautiful. My three pals. Right now there in a 30 gal 30" long 17" high 12" depth . Temporary till 55 gal comes in by the way my filtration is at 100 gph aquaclear 70 filter with a bubble wand against tank back wall. All my learning is from your site and Corey at aquarium co-op thanx Ronnie
When changing my goldfish tanks as they have grown i always add most of their water to the new tank, then set up a drip to whatever container i have them in to slowly adjust them to the new water both in scales and in temp
a 30 gallon is okay for smaller fish not ideal for two fully grown fancies in my opinion you should have about 30 gallons per fancy. since they can grow very large upwards of 7 inches. hope this helps.
I have my 3 small fancies in a 50 gallon right now, but they will be moved into a 75 or 100 gallon when they grow a bit bigger. Maybe try a 50 gallon, or you could maybe get away with a 40g.
I have the in and then I have the time I Dog the only thing I have a great time the time I have the in house I would love for you I would love for a great time the only following following the time for the time the only following up with you a great thing that is a time the time
Okay I am just repeating what she has said If its too cold the wont be as active I have heard many golfish keepers say that is it gets below 60 you should get a heater
MITLOML I dont? I know if it is too cold they need a heater, I just don't know at what temperature in her experience is too cold I also didnt ask what was too cold, I asked would my room temperature be fine.
hello I'm from Indonesia🇮🇩, very lucky to meet you, even though we are from different countries🌏. your video work is very beautiful, I always see it from every message that comes in, I really appreciate your work, hopefully we can meet again in the latest video,❤😍👍
My kids got 2 free goldfish as Halloween handouts a few years ago. They died so we went to the pet store to get 2 more. They refused to sell us less than 10! I got a 5 gallon tank filled with 10 fish, as you can imagine that did not go well. They all died and I tossed the tank.
Wow, I truly respect your knowledge.i never knew this.I have had gold fish live along time without doing anything ect. But now I want the fish to live longer than 2 years...so I'm totally ready and into learning about these creatures and what they need to survive for many years...they really are beautiful and I hope to learn much from you, especially when I have bubble eye fish which are very delicate...I love their wee faces and also the pearl scale.😊
me again. simple question. would it be safe to put a goldfish in a "used" tank? i mean water, glass, spongefilter is still in its natural state as when there were tetras in it. or should I clean em all up like 100% wc, magnetscrub the glass & handwrinkle the spongefilter? sorry if this is too long or noobish...
You can use old supplies for your fish. Just make sure they are cleaned with hot water to get rid of any old bacteria :) as for the tank, I wouldn't really recommend it. You should clean the tank's old water out.
Salem Ross hello. thank you very much. i now have 2 Fantails. one is all orange and its about 3". the other one is orange with black, 2.5". will install an overhead sump system tomorrow. spongefilter is not adequate to get rid of the wastes on the tank's bottom... =)
Wow; I didn't know all of this. I had four goldfish in a 20 gallon. I took them on vacations with me. I would put them in an old ice chest with a bubbler and they did fine. Two lived to be 15 yrs. and the other two I had to give to a friend who has a goldfish pond when I moved across the country.
***** Yeah you do. For them to live healthily and happily 30 gallons or near enough it is recommended. Nearly every goldfish, unless growth is stunted, will grow to around 6 inches (For the fancies) So the space is definitely needed.
You can keep two fancies perfectly fine trust me, their growth isn't gonna be stunned by a 'fish size' less of area it can swim in. However, if you're gonna treat it as a normal tank you will run into some problems, more fish in a smaller size is not healthy you will need to do more frequent water changes possibly two big changes twice a week and have the proper materials to care for two fish.
my sister has had a comet goldfish in a 3 Gallon tank with NO FILTER for 3 years and it's always Flithy and I keep telling her and I have sent her articles and videos that its a bad tank but she doesn't care about her fish at all and the fish is lucky he's lived that long so my birthday isn't until august so it's gonna be a while but if the fish somehow lives until august I'm gonna ask for a big tank for her fish and will probably buy him a little friend but idk if he will make it that long😭
Yea he fish seems fine, I actually bought a little air stone to create oxygen for the fish and the only reason it's lived this long is because it used to have a filter for the first 2 years but then it broke, but the fish has oxygen for now. and on my birthday I'm getting another aquarium and I'm gonna see if I can put her fish in there. (Sorry for the late reply)
GREAT NEWS I got a 37g aquarium 2 week agos that i cycling right now and I'll put her comet in it because I like watching the goldfish so it will be awesome at first she didnt want to put her fish in my tank but now she wants to get rid of it lol
Thaaank you :) I'm planning on a 30 gal with 2 fancies w/ a hob filter along with a sponge filter in a bare bottom pretty soon. Starting a fishless cycle this weekend. Your channel has helped a lot by keeping me informed and enthusiastic for getting goldfish even after a year^^
Very helpful. Switched up from 7 gallons to 35!
Wow! That is a good move. I am sure your fish will be happy and she too,😊
noice
@@aaronzachareemiranda9179 me thinking 55gal
I finally upgraded from a tank 1 gallon to a 10 gallon still can't get goldfish tho
@@RIAX7 that's perfect for a betta fish tho
Am I overreacting by saying that I’m intimidated by what’s needed for a “Quality of Life” goldfish tank? I applaud your abilities and dedication.
If you can't take good care of an animal don't buy the animal . LOGIC .
It sounds like a lot but once you get the hang of it it will get easier
When I was a kid in Michigan, we had a Goldfish in a bowl on the dinning room table. We left for 3 days in the winter and came back the find the Goldfish Bowl was frozen solid. Once the house was warmed up and the ice had melted, the Goldfish was back swimming around and lived several yrs longer.
Its bad when the #1 seller for goldfish tanks on Amazon is only 3 gallons.
Connor Zerka A betta can do ok but 5 gallons is a lot better. Really unfortunate :(
I recently rescued my first goldfish from a tiny dirty bowl I'm pretty sure she was at deaths door, she's doing great now and she somehow managed to make it to 10 years old In her old poor environment
My friend put FOUR goldfish in a 5 gallon tank!!! I kept telling her that that was DEFINITELY not enough but she said that the pet store knew more than I did :(
I got a 29 gallon for two fish.
i work at a petsmart!! what pet store is letting people buy goldfish for mini tanks? we're always told to ask how large someone's tank is and we never sell goldies to the tiny tank owners >:0

Do you know what nemesis means?
this has nothing to do with your video, but i ADORE your hair, it's flawless :3
Hair looks ridiculous! I think I'll go to somebody else's video. Too distracting!
If that's distracting to you Bev, that might be the least of your problems. Such as the idea to reply to a positive comment, with your negative one. Best of luck to you.

Who else here covers half of her face to see how she looks with single hair color.
I think she couldn't decide what color she wanted.
robert vicente lol I did !!
her dark side could look like Alex Vause minus black rims. She's a beautiful natural blonde though.
robert vicente yup , Difrent person! xD
robert vicente lol me
Welcome to the goldfish hobby, and I'm glad I could help you!
Rotoplas and the matherfucker
I would recommend to use a lid for any common goldfish tank. I've had many common goldfish try to jump out of their tanks.
I have a Bere bottom tank. and it really works with some nice pebbles in too and plants.
a lot cleaner
your videos are well detailed..thank u..today I bought my first 2 goldfish ,I hope they make it..I have never had a fish as a pet before.
my fishies love to swim through the bubbles. ..
Strange Person same
that sounds adorable!
@PoppinTopper That's cute, hehehe.
I had one of those fairground bag goldfish for around 6 or 7 years that grew to 6"... he jumped out of the tank once. I have no idea how long he was out for, but when we found him we put him back in the water and he lived. We got a mesh lid after that.
Very informative and helpful, thank you. most people over complicate the subject but you seemed to get right to and i was able to follow. :)
its a 30 minutes video
Most people would take hours explaining every detail and over complicate things. Thats the point im trying to make
its a 30 minute video

I went from 5 gallons to 40!! My fish is so happy now:)
I had to do a college project, and because I myself have a 3 year old goldfish, and this video has rocked all the others I had to sit through watching. You mentioned everything I needed to know and I was enjoying what I was watching! Thanks so much for all the help!!
Great video, hugs from Brazilian aquarists!
***** My name is Jeff
chris dwyer Great post.
Well I know the rule 1cm per liter and always take the biggest fish out of all twice because of the room the gravel and decorations take
chris dwyer ok so you seem very good in goldfish keeping and I really need your help, this is my first ever fish tank, I have a 20 gallon with 3 baby fancy goldfish and 4 snails (small snails)
I have two filters in the tank (a 20 gal and a 10 gal) which creates a lot of oxygen bubbles, I also have 4 plants in the tank
My fish recently have been swimming at tilted angles, going to surface for air, and opening and closing their mouths rapidly, one of them also has red spots on their back and on their fin so I added stress relievent (which said it would heal damaged fins ect) but they seem to still be struggling please help me
They have also recently started to loose appetite (I’ve found left over food on the bottom of the tank a lot)
Very very knowledgeable and informative. Great job. Thanks.
OMG< I had never thought of a stock tank for a back yard patio pond! THANK YOU!!!
Thanks!
I’m desperate for a pearl scale ! I absolutely love them 🥺♥️
VERY informative!
I love your eye makeup and hair
+LadybirdandClover you two should get together and dye your hair the same so you can be a couple of fucking weirdos together.
It is really nice!
I LOVE YOUR HAIR OMG
A very rich video as a Former goldfish owner, I had a problem with sand the anaerobic bacteria is bad, second thing is you are beautiful, even you talked about that gold fish could harm them self with decoration which happened with me
one of the oldest but most informative videos on youtube for goldfish care
One time my mom got me 15 goldfish and a 30 gallon tank. They all lived for 3 years, and I added more fish, too. They had the babies ^△^ But that was about 5 years ago.
I'm glad I found this video because I plan on getting some more fish and I really need to know how to take care of them properly. 😺
goldfish can live for up to twenty years so really your goldfish had tragically short lives :( Good luck with your new fish and please try and give them the best life possible!
Pp
LUV ur hair! So cool!😜
Same
could you use a big kiddy pool for a pond?
If you look at some of her other videos you will see that actually does.
Yes definitely
TyrannosaurusWrecks yes definitely! great for goldfish
Thats what she uses herself! Just remember filtration
Your video was a great help to me. You went slow through everything to make it easily understood! Best goldfish video I have watched so far!!
I really enjoy your videos I learn so much thanks

Solid Gold Aquatics i
sorry I am not Jennie, but i can say from experience that fantails grow to at least 6 inches by the time they are 2 years old.
I get that the fish will only be 1.5 inches but he/she wont stay like that for long :)
I would say go for something like a 30 gallon, you can get them for 30 bucks at a dollar per gallon sale at petco and pet smart. keep it up with the research, and be willing to wait for the right time to buy the right tank. the larger your tank the smaller the amount of water changes you will have to do.
Danny Bravo Thank you so much! I was definitely thinking of waiting for the dollar per gallon sale, because I want to give the goldfish the best living conditions possible. :)
And ya, I agree.
I agree for the single tail variety like comets, since they are quicker swimmers but most fancies should not have this problem.
they must have had lice or some worm ..a healthy gold fish doesnt jump ! they jump when parasites get attached to them and irritates them and thts when u see them jumping n rubbing their scales to get rid off those parasites :)
The only reason I would never keep a lid off is because my cat will mess with the fish and the water
Bad water quality can make fish jump out of desperation, too.
I feel much better about what I need to do now, thanks so much!
hmm... For whatever reason I find myself surprised at how much I dig the hair
I love how educated you are on Goldfish !! :) Any thoughts on betta fish ? Haha. Do you like them or find them pretty ? (:
Hi Solid Gold, I have a natural earth pond that is 120 feet across and 14 feet deep at the center. Is this an ok environment for everyday goldfish? I was thinking that I would like to select some nice looking feeder fish and just let them grow up in the pond. What's your opinion on that? There are lots of lilies and natural cover with mostly open surface area. Thanks in advance for your fabulous advice :) Thumbs up on this video!
Frederick Dunn sounds like heaven for those fish, lucky feeder fish
That's amazing I wish I had the space to do something like that. You could easily get like 100 goldfish I think considering that your pond seems to be thousands of gallons
Overkill, but the fish would probably LOVE it
Frederick Dunn oh how wonderful your natural pond. 😊👍🏻
CEO of explaining things clearly
Hi, I know this video is a few years old but you always inspire me with your fish adventures.
Can you make a video of how to make a storage tub as a tank for fish? Please?
5:20 did anyone else think of Nemo when you saw that filter?
No
No
No
Your Video is so helpful to me .......so thank you very muchh.....thanks♡♡♡
Pure selected fish, what envy! Congratulations.
Incredible that you mention the gravel. As my fush got older it swallowed a piece and I had a panic attack. It lay on the side when I had to jump in. He was fine but what a shock. I changed to smaller sub... and just installed my heater :D thank you
thank you so so so much if i dident no all this my fish would of past away
I will put 4 goldfish for my 66 gallon tank this christmast is it enough space for them?
Are filters a must have or can you just clean your tank regularly? i wanna get a fish for my sisters birthday so im just researching lol
Lucy And Gracie's crafts
Filters are definitely a must have!
must have, unless you have something with very low bioload, or one fish like a betta in a very big tank. But, all would need lots of live plants
Lucy And Gracie's crafts yes very necessary, unless you're willing to clean them out every few hours
Yes, unless you have something like a Betta in a very heavily planted 75 gallon tank.
If u r low on budget then u may buy air pump filter with sponge on it. But i only recommend it to smaller fish. Goldfish definitely need a filter with mechanical n biological filtration to maintain a crystal water.
goldfish do jump! my 3 year old fair goldfish is massive and every night he jumps out of the water and hits the lid of the tank.
I think she's talking about fancy goldfish like fantails
TheMewMix do you use a plastic clear lid, and if you do where do you buy them?
I'm going to get all my gravel out and replace with sand also a enough fake plants to create a hiding place and covers for thhem
Ronald Calcagno. oh ok i asked because i have a 40 gallan breeder tank with 4 gold fish and i have a really powerfull bubbler and it causes the bubbles to pow faster and i wanna keep that inside the tank
fair goldfish are abused
I like Live Plants in my aquariums, mostly because my fish can eat them. it means I feed them less, and so long as I have fast growing plants they never get overtaken by my fish, since I only have 2 goldfish. they also help by putting a bit more O2 into the water, and but using the fish waste as nutrients to grow. my Uncle once said that a good fish tank should mimic an ecosystem in as many ways as possible.
Aquatopia internal filters are one of the best filters on the market at the moment so not all internal filters are bad, in fact a lot of them tend to be powerful
Can I keep 2 fancy goldfish in a 56 gallon thank?
Lucia Martin ya, 2 or maybe 3
Lucia Martin you could have 4 maybe 5 .but if you were really good with maintenance maybe 6
I had to get a lid for my goldfish because he kept splashing water all over my wall lol So depending on your fish's behavior you may need one
Kelly Liz I needed a lid Bc one of my fish jumped out while I wasn’t home and got under the tank (it was lifted) and I found it months later
Yee Yee I'm sorry about your fish
My goldfish used to jump out the tank all the time and I lost my tank lid 😂
I must be lucky. I've had one of my goldfish nearly a year and all that time my tank has never had a lid and he has never tried to jump out. even my shrimp and nerite snail have never tried to escape
thank so much solid gold! I watched this video a while ago and I now have a 37 gallons with a baby calico butterfly and a baby black Moor!💜
Your videos are so relaxing.
I love the necklace!!!
My goldfish keeps getting sand in his nose should I be consernd he seams to not care
you should probably use gravel thats pea sized. Sands not reccomended for goldfish
Sometimes gravel can get in there mouth and the goldy may die
leighanna owen Bare bottom is the best
ive got a 75 gallon aquarium that i converted to a goldfish tank and i ordered a ryukin! any suggestions on tank mates?
More goldies? XD maybe you could get away with some snails... I know someone who keeps snails with his goldies and they don't really get into fights or anything but I'm not sure if they are not healthy for them to be together
another goldfish would be good. I wouldn't recommend snails. They may eat them.
Could I have two fancies in a 30g? Or would that be overstocked?
Pitbull Lover That's fine. 20 gallons for one goldfish 10 for every additional fish added.
a 30 gallon is okay for smaller fish
not ideal for two fully grown fancies
in my opinion you should have about 30 gallons per fancy. since they can grow very large upwards of 7 inches. hope this helps.
I have my 3 small fancies in a 50 gallon right now, but they will be moved into a 75 or 100 gallon when they grow a bit bigger. Maybe try a 50 gallon, or you could maybe get away with a 40g.
I have the in and then I have the time I Dog the only thing I have a great time the time I have the in house I would love for you I would love for a great time the only following following the time for the time the only following up with you a great thing that is a time the time
That is perfect for 2 Fancy tails. 40 Gallons is even better
So if my house stays 68-72•f then I don't need a heater?
you don't need a heater for goldfish ever (generally)
Hayden Cooper
She has said that if its too cold you do
Lynne Bass they're cold water fish
Okay I am just repeating what she has said
If its too cold the wont be as active
I have heard many golfish keepers say that is it gets below 60 you should get a heater
MITLOML
I dont? I know if it is too cold they need a heater, I just don't know at what temperature in her experience is too cold
I also didnt ask what was too cold, I asked would my room temperature be fine.
Well i only have a 10 gallon, nevermind /:
Enjoy your half a fish!
Same. I only realized I got a too small tank when I got there. I now have a ten gallon with Rosy Barbs.
I now *lOvVvVvVvvVvVvVVVe* Rosy Barbs.
You could try golden platy fish?
hello I'm from Indonesia🇮🇩, very lucky to meet you, even though we are from different countries🌏. your video work is very beautiful, I always see it from every message that comes in, I really appreciate your work, hopefully we can meet again in the latest video,❤😍👍
Thank you for these informative, concise videos. Really helpful for a newbie!
can't decide if you're a hot blonde or a hot brunette.....
Badger Jhonnson she's not hot lol hair is wack
Jackson RRXT lmao! Kiddie? Calling me a kid doesn’t make you any older “dork” 😂🤣
Who else Has an over stocked tank because of the pet store 😩😩
My kids got 2 free goldfish as Halloween handouts a few years ago. They died so we went to the pet store to get 2 more. They refused to sell us less than 10! I got a 5 gallon tank filled with 10 fish, as you can imagine that did not go well. They all died and I tossed the tank.
@@withthesehands5799 You could have used the tank for a betta aquascape
It’s pretty much your fault and your fault only for having an over stocked tank
do you have to add the ammonia in? Can you just cycle it for a week or a few weeks?
yes you do have to add in pure ammonia, it usually takes a month or two to fully cycle, this channel has a video on how to cycle an aquarium.
Many thanks for the information on Gold fish set up. Lots of information in this clip. It was worth the watch.
funny how everyone is rocking this hairstyle now🤣
I'm doing this *species a day* challenge where I focus on one specific aquatic species for aquariums. I did discus yesterday and today was goldfish.
me again. simple question. would it be safe to put a goldfish in a "used" tank? i mean water, glass, spongefilter is still in its natural state as when there were tetras in it. or should I clean em all up like 100% wc, magnetscrub the glass & handwrinkle the spongefilter? sorry if this is too long or noobish...
Two lived to be 15 yrs. and the other two I had to give to a friend who has a goldfish pond when I moved across the country.
thanks, this video was helpful. I just bought goldfish today to combat mosquito larvae in my garden pond.
can i put 2 fancy goldfish in a 20 gallon tank??
no.
***** because you should have 20 gallon for the first and then 10 for the next.
No shit man i have 8 of em in my 20 gal tank and it's awesome!
In my opinion you shouldnt ceep goldfish any smaller then 60 gallon. Mine is 73
Limonade Kweker I have one in a 40 and that’s the smallest but I’m getting a bigger tank so I can have all of mine together
my sister has had a comet goldfish in a 3 Gallon tank with NO FILTER for 3 years and it's always Flithy and I keep telling her and I have sent her articles and videos that its a bad tank but she doesn't care about her fish at all and the fish is lucky he's lived that long so my birthday isn't until august so it's gonna be a while but if the fish somehow lives until august I'm gonna ask for a big tank for her fish and will probably buy him a little friend but idk if he will make it that long😭
PumpkinTheHamster Is it still okay?
Yea he fish seems fine, I actually bought a little air stone to create oxygen for the fish and the only reason it's lived this long is because it used to have a filter for the first 2 years but then it broke, but the fish has oxygen for now. and on my birthday I'm getting another aquarium and I'm gonna see if I can put her fish in there. (Sorry for the late reply)
that fish is stunted lol
GREAT NEWS I got a 37g aquarium 2 week agos that i cycling right now and I'll put her comet in it because I like watching the goldfish so it will be awesome at first she didnt want to put her fish in my tank but now she wants to get rid of it lol
BrunoTheHamster is the fish doing okay now?
Thaaank you :) I'm planning on a 30 gal with 2 fancies w/ a hob filter along with a sponge filter in a bare bottom pretty soon. Starting a fishless cycle this weekend. Your channel has helped a lot by keeping me informed and enthusiastic for getting goldfish even after a year^^
