Switching Channels never got the credit it deserves. I know it's a remake, but Jonathon Reynolds (Mickey & Maude) script contains some of the funniest dialog I have ever heard. It's certainly the best film Burt did since Sharkey's Machine. The 1980s were not kind to Burt. I think Breaking In rounded out the only good films from him in that decade. Too bad. I wish Burt did more films like Switching Channels. It's the only straight up comedy he was in that actually worked.
this past summer I finally sat down and watched Front Page. It wasnt funny and its overrated. Last week rewatched Switching Channels and it was OK, but nothing special. I think it would have been better when it was new and fresh, but it didnt age as well as I hoped.
@@Shorty_Lickens if you watch His Girl Friday then you would have seen all the remakes. Which Front Page did you watch? Lemmon and Matthau or the one from the 1930's? Just wondering.
switching channels is on youtube, i saw the cast and immediately checked out this review. looks like such an odd movie that clearly hasn't aged well at all . i agree with gene, it is really miscast. i would never buy that turner would've married a man 20 years older than her
Too bad none of the actors here are very likeable. Imagine rewriting Hecht and MacArthur. As usual Ebert kisses the rear-end of some awful film-makers - just watch his reviews of any Robert Redford film, but there are plenty of examples.
The closing line they cut was "The S.O.B. stole my watch!" Michael Caine was the original choice for the Burt Reynolds role, but the studio insisted on retakes for JAWS 4 (they thought they could save that turkey?), and the production couldn't be delayed because Kathleen Turner was pregnant. I can see him being better-suited to the role...
Walter Hill's bayou-set movie whose title Gene couldn't remember is SOUTHERN COMFORT from 1981.
Yup. That's a good movie.
I like The Man Who Saw Tomorrow! I used to watch it all the time as a kid!
Switching Channels great. And God Created...filmed around Santa Fe in the old days.
Love watching Welles in this film. Also, F is for Fake is a classic
Burt is the Man!

Great movie. Laughed the whole time.
Oct 1989 was when the earthquake hit Cali during game 3 of the baseball world series.
I remember that! I was a senior in college.
I was at the movies watching An Innocent Man.
But it wasn’t that big of an earthquake worthy of a prediction that would cause significance 30 years later
I was at the game!
I was in El Lay driving back from a gig with a band when I heard the earthquake announced on the radio.
The House on Carroll Street is a good movie.
Another hidden gem of the 80's. Great performances and story .Full of style and grace.
@@errolbourgeois8230 I agree.
The title is a reference to THE HOUSE ON GARIBALDI STREET, a book about nailing war criminal Adolf Eichmann in Argentina.
Absolutely. Siskel was totally wrong on this one. As he quite often was. It was a very compelling movie that didn't disappoint. Ebert got it right.
@@BlaqjaqshellaqI didn't know that. Thanks for the info.
Only reason I watched Created Woman was for the sex scenes. Ok. I was hitting puberty. Cut me some slack 😅
I see we about the same age, cause that's the only reason why I looked at it.

How is Burt Reynolds unlikeable?
The erroneous political agenda and false history in Hollywood is why I dont watch movies anymore.
