Cecil, this was a movie i saw on midday TV here in Australia when i was a kid. The shower scene freaked me out so much, i had no idea anyone else knew about this movie. Thanks
So I've watched nearly all of your videos. You've been consistently great since the very beginning. I tell almost everyone I meet about your channel. It's gotten to the point where most of my favorite indie horror flicks came at your suggestion. Please, never stop making videos, man.
The Kid explaining what happened sounded just my my son explaining things🤣 Me: "How was school?" Son: " one of the kids at school fell over and hit his knee really bad, there was blood everywhere, he was screaming and crying and the teacher was trying to calm him down and it was disgusting... isn't that gross Dad? And they took him to the nurse and we didn't see him again! Where would he go Dad? Do you think he died?" 🤣 (The kid just tripped and scraped his knee badly, his parents came and picked him up🤣)
I've loved this movie since I was really little, HBO used to air it constantly in the early 90s and it scared me as a child. I never knew what it was called, but always remembered the line by the old man about "the voice in the wires." Finally caught it again on HBO when I was about 16 an taped it on vhs. I found the dvd used for 3.99 at an FYE a few years back and I treasure it! I love the score and the up close shots of the wires. Definitely a good creepy film. Whenever I mention it to people they think I'm talking about the 2006 movie. Anyway I'm so glad you reviewed this. I clicked so fast when I got the notification :) Great underrated gem from the 80s. Oh and am I the only one who laughed at Joey Lawerences character clutching that toy horse while on the airplane? He's a pre teen boy, not a 6 year old 😂 I always giggle at how silly he looks.
Yes, on one of HBO's many airings is where I caught this as a kid too. I always wondered back what the name of it was and am so happy I just found it again... Now I have to get myself a DVD copy of it 😁
I'm subscribed to a ton of "movie reviews channels" and just discovered this one a few days ago, let me tell you, in my opinion this is by far the best channel of it's kind, you deserve at least a million more subs.
Hey, Denko? William Chico here. I always like the greatest movie is Pulse. Just like to watch Pandorum the Movie on DVD for Anchor Bay Entertainment. Maybe we still watching Good Bad Flicks on RUclips every month and every week, eh?
*YES!* I love this film, I find it weird it never spooked me as a kid, it just caught my interests back then, and I loved it ever since, I always drew comparisons with this film and the 1993 Sci-fi Horror _"Ghost in the Machine"_ when I was younger. I just love the supernatural element here of a literal mysterious entity made out of electricity, but its not a monster or an alien, it's just electricity that's conscious and just torments and kills family after family just for the hell of it. Very underrated movie, especially for it's time, kinda disappointing because of it's title I get results of other movies instead.
Dude! I remember watching this on cable when I was about four or five (1989 or 1990). I appreciate this video so much Cecil. The image of the cat clock at the end will forever be engrained into my memories.
I consider Matthew Lawrence's character in this to be the same character from the short-running "Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad", where he goes into a computer to fight viruses a-la Power Rangers/Guyver style. It's his long-running fight against the future Pulse. Isn't that bad?
Weird attention to detail: this has to be one of the only movies ive ever seen that swells a wound. In that last shot, where he was hit in the head by the screw, rather than just a cut, its also now a raised lump from the swelling. . . Good on them for that
I have to agree with you on that. They were very thorough with the attention to detail; the technical explanation the movie goes through with the power grid blew me away as a kid.
If you're asking if they still let kids fly alone on airplanes in the 80's when this movie was made, the answer is yes. When I was a kid my grandparents would drive up from Florida to visit family and sometimes my sister and I would ride back with them, then fly back by ourselves.
I had completely forgotten about this movie. I remember vividly the woman screaming in the shower and getting burned, but I could never remember the movie. That scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.
I loved this film as a kid. The score and the sound design were definitely different. It hasn't aged well, to me at least, but it's still a fairly good thriller to watch, even better than "Ghost in the Machine" (just thought I'd mention it, since they felt similar).
Theory time for how the entity managed to screw with the shower. Back in the days of galvanized and copper pipe being the go-to standard for plumbing lines, it was common for the piping to be used as a grounding bar for certain electrical systems. The entity traveled along the grounding wire and gained access to the plumbing pipes, allowing it to directly affect the electrons in the water, making it possible to super heat the water. It also used the electrons in the water to induce a magnetic field in the shower doors through the metal framing around the glass panels.
Yeah, I had a similar theory: The longer that the entity is in the house, the stronger it gets. When strong enough, it can create and manipulate magnetic fields, which then are used to exert force on the metal located in doors and handles, using them to move (or not move) as the entity wishes.
This was suggested to me on Amazon so I watched the trailer and realized that I had seen it 1989 on cable... so I was 13. Anyway I ended up buying it since it was 5 bucks. No regrets at all. I love it... even more than I remember.
1:22 "it's *a good thing* you weren't here last week... there were three police cars, a fire engine, an ambulance, and a TV camera... you know, ALL THE THINGS LITTLE KIDS WOULD LOVE TO SEE UP CLOSE IN PERSON"
Found this little gem a few years back at the local gas station for 5 bucks. Couldnt believe it. Just picked it up for 3 bucks on bluray too. Just couldnt pass up a crispy Pulse
I've been seeing the cover of this movie my whole life but never gave it a chance. While It doesn't seem like I missed anything... great video as always.
Roger Morris or maybe Tales from the Darkside. I wish shows like that were still around. I think the closest thing we have now is Black Mirror which is awesome in it's own right, but lacks the campy cheesy feeling
August West The younger Lawerence brother, whom tells the eye story, is in Tales From the Darkside: The Movie. He plays a kid trapped by Debbie Harry, telling her stories so she'll take longer to prep for eating him.
NefariousKoel damn bro I completley forgot about Shocker! Was it Mitch Pileggi from X Files who played the killer?....damn I cannot remember his name!!! Wait, Horace Pinker??? Is that it? I think it is
The unaccompanied flyers are still around and the set up with David’s family was the same for me and my family. I had to fly across the country every summer all alone every year.
This movie used to freak me right the fuck out. The idea of all the appliances and electronics in the house trying to kill you really got under my skin.
I remember this little horror movie that aired in Belgium on RTL Television channel early 90's on Friday nights when some European countries did same as in America ( friday night is horror, suspense, thriller...night ) . I liked the movie not only because it aproached another style of horror ( not a slasher or other cliché back in the day ) but an entity force coming from no where kinda leads years later with the same concept-ish movie "Virus" starring Jamie-Lee Curtis and Donald Sutherland has somewhat the same vibe and answer to this movie "an alien force" ( thats how we kids/teenagers already tought about in Europa ) . I so wish low budget movies still got made with non-cgi effects and such . Just wish that everyone would start like a pre-teenager without money Peter Jackson was ( yes the one that made the Lords of the Ring trilogy ) he was unknown and made two famous horror movies with nearly nothing as money with "Bad Taste" and "Braindead" . I would really like to star in movies for just a fun bbq day with just people than having a low priced bill cash ...at least with a bbq or such you meet people make friends ... Also not to forget we in Europe in the late 80's to 1998's we used many samplers in electronic music ( Rave, Techno, Trance, etc...) and some of these samplers got used in some of their tracks ....if it isn't à certain sound then it's a famous one liner from a certain horror movie ( for example Evil Dead 3's movie : This is my Broomstick ) If you got a chance Cecil and know the early Rave scene like Thunderdome the guys from ID&T listen to their first 10 compilations so many joy . Were americans also that influenced back then 1985-1998 in the electronic genre or is that an only European exclusive thing ?
*sees title* Is this the one from 1988, 2001, 2003, 2006, the other 2006 one as an alternate title to "Incubus), or 2010? "Pulse is a 1988 scifi horror film-" Ah. So you know what you know, but you're not telling it.
Cecil, this was a movie i saw on midday TV here in Australia when i was a kid. The shower scene freaked me out so much, i had no idea anyone else knew about this movie. Thanks
FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY!!! someone reviewed this underrated movie
Finally, somebody has used the word 'underrated' correctly.
._.
I *LOVE* matt paintings in 80's movies. When done well they can look incredibly gorgeous or other worldly. And i love this underrated film
That power station is the most boring of things to have a matt painting of though.
You spelled "matt painting" wrong. It's actually "matthew painting."
So I've watched nearly all of your videos. You've been consistently great since the very beginning. I tell almost everyone I meet about your channel. It's gotten to the point where most of my favorite indie horror flicks came at your suggestion. Please, never stop making videos, man.
Thank you so much! Lots more to come :)
3:25 Those 80's lampshade shaped damn haircuts...
I had one myself. My parents hated me.
LOL I was gonna ask the exact same question.
Jack Goodman
Yup. Those were horrible. My folks still have a picture set of me with that in one of those alligator polo shirts...
I will not take hair care advice from a walking meatloaf!! but agreed there were some horrific style choices in the 80'S !!
Harvey Lee Sorry about my looks. Werewolves are assholes.
That's the classic bowl haircut.
"we aint found shit" my favorite part of space balls XD
Stue GAMING Me too!
I always wanted to see him say that to Janeway on VOYAGER.
"The plugs lady, pull all the plugs."
Thanks for this, been so many years since I saw it.
The Kid explaining what happened sounded just my my son explaining things🤣
Me: "How was school?"
Son: " one of the kids at school fell over and hit his knee really bad, there was blood everywhere, he was screaming and crying and the teacher was trying to calm him down and it was disgusting... isn't that gross Dad? And they took him to the nurse and we didn't see him again! Where would he go Dad? Do you think he died?" 🤣
(The kid just tripped and scraped his knee badly, his parents came and picked him up🤣)
lol cute story
Son: “...Where do you think he went? Do you think he died?”
Me: “........ _YESSSS”_ 🤡
@@maria.whiddon a sweet story amongst the usual cesspool of RUclips comments. One of the reasons I love this channel
This was filmed in my home town of Glendora, Ca.
Awesome! Do you know where? Paul Golding said he filmed at a 4-house cul-de-sac near his house in Glendale, CA.
My husband said he watched this on HBO back in the day and it gave him nightmares. Thanks for bringing it up!
I've loved this movie since I was really little, HBO used to air it constantly in the early 90s and it scared me as a child. I never knew what it was called, but always remembered the line by the old man about "the voice in the wires." Finally caught it again on HBO when I was about 16 an taped it on vhs. My introduction to horror, for just this reason
Same. Saw it early 90s. Scared the crap out of me. That’s why I’m into electronics repair now at nearly 40. lol
I'm subscribed to a ton of "movie reviews channels" and just discovered this one a few days ago, let me tell you, in my opinion this is by far the best channel of it's kind, you deserve at least a million more subs.
dude just want to say i love your videos man they have been consistently good since the beginning and i really like just listening to them good job
LMAO. I just saw the car bed part. Priceless. Thank you.
For a minute I thought you're going to review the 2006 film...
Denko I didn't what it will be as pulse is a generic name as phelous pointed out
Denko Me too
Also a good movie tho
Hey, Denko?
William Chico here.
I always like the greatest movie is Pulse. Just like to watch Pandorum the Movie on DVD for Anchor Bay Entertainment. Maybe we still watching Good Bad Flicks on RUclips every month and every week, eh?
Ah Pandorum, or as I like to think of it. Glowsticks, the movie.
*YES!* I love this film, I find it weird it never spooked me as a kid, it just caught my interests back then, and I loved it ever since, I always drew comparisons with this film and the 1993 Sci-fi Horror _"Ghost in the Machine"_ when I was younger. Subscription for the Max Headroom reference.
I seen this movie as a kid and never could remember the name nor find it again! Damn, thank you so much! Good Bad Flicks does right by me again!
:)
Great job Cecil on reviewing a very underrated 80's sci fl horror flick!
Thanks!
Dude! I remember watching this on cable when I was about four or five (1989 or 1990). I appreciate this video so much Cecil. The image of the cat clock at the end will forever be engrained into my memories.
Cliff DeYoung is also another goofy dad in Secret Admirer. Another fantastic and hilarious review. Thanks for this!
I consider Matthew Lawrence's character in this to be the same character from the short-running "Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad", where he goes into a computer to fight viruses a-la Power Rangers/Guyver style. It's his long-running fight against the future Pulse.
Isn't that bad?
I too recall that show.
I don’t think anyone born in the 80s wasn’t freaked out by this. HBO, thank you so much!
Man this channel makes me remember movies I haven't thought about in years.
"I guess this movie takes place 20 minutes into the future". Max Headroom was a great show. The logo for the tv station was a nice touch.
Cliff De Young looks like a teleporter accident between Wings Hauser and Michael Moriarty.
Grandmas boy reference?? Oh god I love this channel
Ahh, the good ole 80's stand by for a boy's room. The racing car bed!
If you're asking if they still let kids fly alone on airplanes in the 80's when this movie was made, the answer is yes. When I was a kid my grandparents would drive up from Florida to visit family and sometimes my sister and I would ride back with them, then fly back by ourselves.
"the floor is DEATH!" this kind of quotes is why i love this channel XD
"It shot up right in his eye-bawl" kid sounds like a New Yorker
I always remember Roxanne Hart as Brenda in Highlander, I’d forgotten she was in this.
I went on a plane from DC to Cali by myself in 1986 when I was five. And I actually haven't been on a plane ever since, no kidding
I had completely forgotten about this movie. I remember vividly the woman screaming in the shower and getting burned, but I could never remember the movie. That scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.
3:04 Holy Crap! I wore those T-shirts all the time as a kid. Talk about Flashback.
I loved this film as a kid. The score and the sound design were definitely different. It hasn't aged well, to me at least, but it's still a fairly good thriller to watch, even better than "Ghost in the Machine" (just thought I'd mention it, since they felt similar).
Such an underrated movie. Scary concept if it happened today.
Hilarious! I loved everything about this. Thank you. New to this channel, so happy I discovered it.
Welcome! Thanks for the sub!
One of the funnier videos I've seen on this channel. Also as a film student/enthusiast I must say you have the best channel on RUclips.
When strong enough, it can create and manipulate magnetic fields, which then are used to exert force on the metal located in doors and handles, using them to move (or not move) as the entity wishes.
erant lightning causing robots/AI to become sentient and evil is the best 80s trope.
This was suggested to me on Amazon so I watched the trailer and realized that I had seen it 1989 on cable... so I was 13. Anyway I ended up buying it since it was 5 bucks. No regrets at all. I love it... even more than I remember.
can u do a gbf or exploring on stephen kings the sleepwalkers?
yeah i saw that on stuckmann too, haha looks great !
Greatest line ever! "Isn't that bad?!". I'm a big fan of the lawrence brothers. Loved Boy meets world and Brotherly love.
1:22 "it's *a good thing* you weren't here last week... there were three police cars, a fire engine, an ambulance, and a TV camera... you know, ALL THE THINGS LITTLE KIDS WOULD LOVE TO SEE UP CLOSE IN PERSON"
why inst this channel more popular ...tell your friends
Hey that cop is Tuvok!
Those are some wicked bowlcuts these kids have.
" yeah but its a fucking sweet car " haha
What a weird movie. I never forgot that shower scene.
A lot of references in this one. You even managed to do a Final Fantasy reference.
I remember seeing this on late night TV during my school holidays. It could have worked better as a episode of show like The Outer Limits.
Roger Morris or maybe Tales from the Darkside. I wish shows like that were still around. I think the closest thing we have now is Black Mirror which is awesome in it's own right, but lacks the campy cheesy feeling
August West
The younger Lawerence brother, whom tells the eye story, is in Tales From the Darkside: The Movie. He plays a kid trapped by Debbie Harry, telling her stories so she'll take longer to prep for eating him.
Deadman Switch anyone?!
In early 2000's I would fly alone under 13 to LAX, plane staff where always so nice.
Yesssss! This much closer to 3 o'clock High 😁
Yesssssss, Fast Times reference FTW
Great review!
Sentient killer in the electricity?
Should probably do one on the movie 'Shocker' then.
Or Virus from 1999. Donald Sutherland and evil electricity on a boat. A lot of fun to watch.
I loved shocker.
That was a Wes Craven flick, right? Don't think I've seen it since the early 90s, but it left an impression!
Ghost in the machine
NefariousKoel damn bro I completley forgot about Shocker! Was it Mitch Pileggi from X Files who played the killer?....damn I cannot remember his name!!! Wait, Horace Pinker??? Is that it? I think it is
"This is some great ice tea" more O&A references! I'm on to you, pal!
WOW! I totally
forgot about this movie. So it many times on HBO when I was a kid.
The unaccompanied flyers are still around and the set up with David’s family was the same for me and my family. I had to fly across the country every summer all alone every year.
I liked this movie when I was young.
You ABSOLUTELY need to do a review of Flight of the Navigator!
That kids bowl cut was rough!
Grandma's Boy reference :D
243rd out of 254th? That's the 12th least-grossing movie of 1988. clever references and great summary full of interesting facts.
Pulse is the best movie since The Ring Two.
Hey, Cecil, you will always want to do the exploring Scott Pilgrim vs the World for next Monday, right?
Lol, in fact the movie tape is "starman", from john carpenter
"Bill almost nailed Ellen with the pipe" ayyyyyye
GBF is one of the very few channels that consistently make me belly laugh.
Time index 1'00" I see Tim Russ aka Tuvok from Star Trek Voyager
Looks interesting, might have to check it out.
This movie scared the crap out of me as a kid! To this day I am still scared of glass door showers thanks to this.
This movie used to freak me right the fuck out.
The idea of all the appliances and electronics in the house trying to kill you really got under my skin.
i love these vids
Oh I watched this movie many times on Showtime but forgot the name!
I remember this! Enjoyed it too.
" I know what I know but I'm not telling"
always loved this movie :D
With Mill creek releasing it now on blu ray for cheap, I think it will find some legs.
I always thought the end credits to this film were oddly haunting.
That was funny :-) your narration/riffing is getting better! I'd never heard of this movie but it definitely looks like a fun one to check out.
There's a J Horror movie called Pulse as well
Just saw Automan on your Amazon wish list. I love you so much more than I did. Which was a lot already.
I remember this little horror movie that aired in Belgium on RTL Television channel early 90's on Friday nights when some European countries did same as in America ( friday night is horror, suspense, thriller...night ) . Were americans also that influenced back then 1985-1998 in the electronic genre or is that an only European exclusive thing ?
Sentient electricity was also used in the movie Virus, which I liked, although nobody else did, it seems.
I had no idea that Tim Russ was in Spaceballs. That is so cool.
I remember this movie 😂 I had completely forgotten about it ! 👍🏼 I remember that shower 🚿 scene with his stepmom. Freaked me out for awhile.
thank you for this one..... I couldn't remember the name of this movie to save my safe...
Joey Lawrence (WOW !) and Matthew Lawrence in a horror film =O my mind is blown !
They should remake this, with nowadays trending "smarthouses", where each and everything is remotely controllable, it should be pretty scarry ^^
Your synopses are the best
Found this in your playlist 1000 ad video or something like that. Are these monetized, should I be be watching these ones in particular?
*sees title*
Is this the one from 1988, 2001, 2003, 2006, the other 2006 one as an alternate title to "Incubus), or 2010?
"Pulse is a 1988 scifi horror film-"
Ah. So you know what you know, but you're not telling it.
Soundtrack by tangerine dream.
That Spaceballs clip almost made me fall out of my damn chair.
OH WOW i so recall see thing movie some where in my life i dunno how old i was but i recall it was like either on vacation or at a friends place
I bet the killer was that one gremlin from "Gremlins 2".
