Martin Truex Jr.'s Emotional Words Sure Sound Like 2023 Is His Last Cup Series Season

- Martin Truex Jr. dominated at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Monday. It was his third win of the season and second in the last five races. With the win, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver firmly established himself as one of the frontrunners to make it to Phoenix for a shot at his second Cup Series championship.
After the race, Truex and crew chief James Small were celebratory in Victory Lane. Interestingly, the crew chief unexpectedly brought up his driver's potential retirement in an interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio's Claire B. Lang. The reporter then followed that up by asking the driver his thoughts on the subject. His emotional response sure sounded like 2023 is his last Cup Series season.

I want a goodbye tour, I want him to announce at the start of the season it’s his last. But ultimately I want what is best for him. After mark Martin left it took years for me to find another driver to root for.
If he wins the championship and says I'm retiring I'd be good with that

At 37 I am in a point in my life where I look around and see drivers much younger than me and it is weird because it is hard to root for them. Something about rooting for someone your age or older. It is going to be weird without him around because I don’t feel like he has any ambition in broadcast etc. I hope he can win the championship and then call it quits.

Id say if it is his last, announce at the beginning of the playoffs. Give everyone a chance to celebrate him.
I don't think he'll retire this year, I think he'll give it one more year and say it quits so he can have a proper farewell tour.

He’ll retire if he wins the Championship, however JGR needs to know alot sooner due to sponsorship commitments.

Truex Jr. referencing that he didn't like sitting in the motorhome alone really suggests that he misses his longtime girlfriend. And he's essentially trying to spend more time with his family now.
I’ll make it simple… If Truex wins the championship this season, then he will retire. If he doesn’t, there’s a chance he makes one more go at it..
