I've been sewing 50 years and your video still had several things I didn't know! Doubles thread, Snipping the seam allowance to spread out the thickness, great tips. Thank you. Also, you are entertaining, yet clear. So rare.
Thank you! Found some cool flowery denim and will make "scratch panels" so my cat doesn't mess up my couch any more than it is already scratched up. It's okay, I love my kitties more than my couch. A lot of these tips I learned a long time ago - they just left my mind - so thank you for posting these tips! Cheers! 🌺🐱
I wish I’d known about that bump tool when I use to work with Denim or hem jeans. Got to get me one or like you said use cardboard. All the tips are great! Thank you for sharing!
Yay! Love your cosplay. Thank your for these tips. I just got a more heavy duty machine and forgot some of the things I used to know. These are right on time.
Omg thank you April for posting this! I’ve been preparing to sew a denim project but had been worried about how much thicker the fabric is, so now I know I gotta get the right needle and thread 😬
In a pinch you can use a button as a hump jumper. You can stitch the hem in a regular thread that matches the color of the denim, then switch to your topstitch thread and make another pass. This will insure that the hem is caught 100 percent by the first stitch line
match the needle to the weight of the denim. 14 for light weight, 16 for medium, 18 for heavy- weight.denim,. The right size may also depend upon how many layers you intend to sew through, The video tip on pounding the layer flatter is helpful, Of course pounding takes place away from the sewing machine.
Never thought I would be watching a video about sewing Denim despite never using it ever although this may be useful for other fabrics with similar properties like heavy brocades and upholstery fabrics.
Hey, it been a while since I saw a video from you, but the came back is fierce. This video is very informative on working with denim but with a twist of fun thrown in. You look soo cute in this cosplay costume and you can wear it as a statement jacket. Thanks for sharing and blessings to you and all in the days to come.
I was just thinking about you the other day. I was wondering if you were alright. I was so excited to see that you had posted a video. I love when you do Cosplay videos. They are so much fun. I also love the tips you provided on how to properly sew denim. It was great to see you, April!
Hey April, you mentioned pressing on the highest heat possible and also using polyester thread. Would this melt the thread? Or is the pressing done prior to stitching?
HELP! 🥺 I'm a beginner and just bought my second sewing machine Brother Innov-is 15..so far I really like it and it's very easy to work with HOWEVER (and here comes the sad part 😄) it can't handle jeans and I want to work only with jeans so now I'm looking for more hardcore machine..any advice?
Вроде бы нормальное видео, но ширинка с поясным ремнём на лице это уже слишком! Это прям перечёркивает напрочь весь ваш энтузиазм! Носите сами свой-такой "деним"! И да, вам ДИЗЛАЙК!

Welcome back. 3:48 I like using a longer stitch length on almost everything. In part because it’s easier to take the stitches out if you need to.
What a fun and informative video! I was just planning on making a denim corset, so this came at a perfect time.
I love learning new skills from you! I’ve been sewing for 40 years, and I gather (pun intended) new tips from you every time. Much love! ❤
