    Most people don't get around to the games they buy, and often they just sit on the shelf. If you take a look at trophy lists or Steam achievements for any game, it's rare that even 25% of people get the achievement for beating something even once. So actually putting in the work to beat every game in your backlog is rare, and if you can speak about every game on your shelf, that's ideal IMO. I try to remember that as I work through my own backlog.

    • @RNGGamerYT
      @RNGGamerYT  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! I beat around 70% of the games I play. But, I give them all a fair attempt. I have something to say about every item on the shelf...even if I haven't played it 😅 I can talk endlessly about anything.

    I know it can be hard to decide where to start. I always go for the hook. Usually, depending on what part of my tactical mind I want to feed. Guerilla stealth? Or an action game with fast-paced combat? I also like to slow things down with a turn based game. Old school RPG or Disgaea. I go for what fits my mood, and I lean hard. I'm on a stealth kick with Batman. I was playing Dishonoered and switched to Arkham Knight because SSKTJL was never a good idea.

      I'll keep that in mind! It's hard to know what to do when you play everything randomly

    The most beautiful time to play video games for me was October/November 2009. Besides getting married on November 2009, this was my random backlog on those two months so you can imagine how great a period this was for me:
    New releases only: Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Dragon Age Origins, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (last game I stopped caring for COD), New Super Mario Bros on Wii, Assassin's Creed 2, Mario & Luigi Bowsers Inside Story on DS, the first Borderlands, the first Bayonetta, and Torchlight on PC. Now, I used to collect a lot for Xbox at the time and I loved the second release of Magna Carta back around mid-October 2009.
    On my backlog from the previous months: Batman Arkham Asylum, Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Wii, Prototype, and inFamous.
    On my backlog for coop/online gaming: Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter 4, and Killzone 2.
    This and many more stuff came together to wrap up the year. Since then, there has not been anything close to the ending of 2009. And then the retro games come in. Even though I do random gaming like you, I do keep my choices based on categories so I'm never bored and I'm always 'updated', one of those categories is recent releases and the most weirdest category I have is 'TBS RPGs' I play one new turn base game at least once a month to never lose the excitement and keep myself going back to retro games.

      Thank you so much for sharing! I vividly remember 2009... and playing most of those games as well. It felt magical to me, too. I can't even begin to understand how nostalgic that year must have been in your life with getting married and everything.
      It's awesome that you play everything randomly as well. You're the first person who has reached out who does something similar to me.
      I have a few special caveats to keep things interesting for myself as well. There's the gold stars I can earn for finishing games. I can spend those to pick any game I want to play. I also make sure to play a shmup every 15 games. Also, every 35 games, I go back and play a game I didn't finish, gave up on, or want to give a second chance.
      I really appreciate your support!

    I had so much of a backlog that I was depressed and didn’t play any games at all for months! I snapped out of it now, playing Ghost of Tsushima which is amazing! I bought Resident Evil 4 remake and I stopped playing at the same spot I did on the original! When you get the girl to walk around with like an escort mission that is no fun at all!

    Man I still don’t know how you do it !!! - if I couldn’t play the exact game (or set of games as I’m often playing a few at the same time) that I wanted to play when I wanted to play it I’d go nuts lol. I do have a large backlog too though so I think that’s a problem no matter how you game for most gamers - unless your the type that will not allow yourself to buy any new game until You beat the last one you bought- I’ve met a few people like that and I think I understand them even less than I understand your method lol. Anyway - the Panzer Paladins game on Switch and Wonderboy game on PS4 might look like games I’d be into checking out. I just started playing Celeste (never got around to it until now) - while getting deeper into Sea of Stars, while completing Spider-Man PS4 again (as a refresher before Spidey 2 drops), while completing FFVII Remake again (as a refresher before Rebirth drops), and lagging on finishing Jedi Fallen Order so I can start Jedi Survivor - and about to start Starfield too but on PC🤦‍♂️- which means I’ll probably drop off on some of them but we’ll see. Want to check out the TMNT Shredder’s Revenge DLC soon also. There’s really just too many games these days 🤷🏾‍♂️ - looking forward to the next video dude!

      It can be really hard to play everything randomly sometimes. You need at least to be playing one good game at a time to keep yourself motivated.
      It looks like you have plenty to keep yourself busy for the foreseeable future. I'm envious you get to play so many cool games all at once.

    You are definitely not alone. We play every game we own but the backlog is ridiculous. We often don't even play the same games because there's no way individually will ever get through all of them.
    I think you've talked me out of playing Wonderboy and the dragon's ( I think that's what it's called) 😂😂😂
    You had me at Metroidvania but you lost me at unfair hit and enemies running into you. My anger level started to rise and I was like "nope this game is not for you" 😂

      Thanks for watching! That's the whole reason I came up with my whole random gaming backlog system. The backlog was so overwhelming that I decided to turn it into a game itself! It has been one of the best decisions I've ever made.
      Wonderboy was very frustrating... shockingly so. I'm surprised they didn't update the gameplay when they remastered it!

    • @RetroRivals
      @RetroRivals 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@RNGGamerYT so do you just do a random number generator and a sign a number to each of your games? I don't know that I have that sort of follow through. I have done it in the past to pick the horror game. I wanted to play for Halloween but that was easy because it's in my wheelhouse and my favorite genre so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed or at least as disappointed as I would be if I pulled like a random retro game with unfair hit boxes, limit, amount of lives etc etc

GTA 5 was just finished last week a day before it's 10th anniversary. Pokemon Omega Ruby is one I'm currently playing through as I type this, and I'll split my time between Pokemon and Tomb Raider (ps4/5) release that I wanna get through before the remaster's come out next year in Feb.

    I really don't have thoughts about these specific games, except for Dragon's Trap. The only thing I have to say about it is that design-wise, it is very much a product of its time - it has those quarter-munching sensibilities, even though it was technically a console original.
    As far as the overall quality of this batch I think you nailed it; most games are going to fall into the "mediocre to okay" (or 5-7 of 10) range.
    Even for someone like myself with a much more curated collection (I like RPGs), I'd say most of them fall into that range. And that's fine, because how would we recognize that Chrono Trigger is a masterpiece without something like Beyond the Beyond to compare it to?
    Anyways, glad to hear that you are enjoying Silent Hill, keep doing the good work!

    I love Dangun Feveron, but there's also some nostalgia involved. There used to be an awesome store near me where the owner set up about a dozen candy cabs, and used to swap in gamesfrom his incredible pcb collection from all over the world, and I used to play it there. I miss that time. I got the 1cc on normal pretty quickly, but I also did have a good bit of prior experience with it.
    I passed on that Dragon's Trap remake. I already have it on Master System, Turbografx (as Dragon's Curse), and Japanese PS2 and bear it on them. The new art is nice and all, but how many copies of one game do I need?
    I had similar hopes for Panzer Paladin. Happy Console Gamer really hyped it up, but it wasn't all that amazing. I do enjoy a lot of indie games, especially metroidvanias, but this one just didn't do it for me.
