Just some commentary on the artist and this song.
First, YOASOBI (pronounced "Yoh-ah-soh-bee") is in the top tier of popular Japanese artists right now. The producer of the music, Ayase (pronounced "Ah-yah-seh"), is a man and he does not sing. He just creates the tracks and performs them on stage. YOASOBI literally means "nightlife" or "going out at night" which Ayase and Ikura (pronounced "Ee-koo-rah") used because they were expecting their partnership to be a temporary one akin to a night gig. Though they continue to do projects independent of each other, the duo doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. The other band members at this live concert are not officially part of YOASOBI, but are contracted with Sony Music Entertainment and accompany YOASOBI at live events.
As for this particular song, Idol, it is the theme song to the anime adaptation of the manga (comic) series "Oshi no Ko." The story is about the ins and outs/two-sided-ness of the entertainment industry, especially for "idols" in Japan which are more commonly referred to as "divas" in the States. This is why the song has so many different progressions and key changes. The major keys, including the chorus, express the flashiness and glittery side of being on stage with thousands of fans cheering you on while the minor keys, including the rap segments, portray how cut throat the industry is and how you need to put on a facade to make your way to the top. If you read/watch the series, this song increases in depth and richness. This tends to be the case for all of YOASOBI's songs.

It's not that dark. They sing about the dark industry but the main character in the song stays prideful as a big idol. To her perspective, "It's business", and she also tries to love her fans. It's also a beautiful last saying from her to her kids

The most popular unit in Japan in 2023
In this video, the two are wearing white sportswear, and the vocalist is a singer-songwriter when working individually. The man is a composer, so he plays music, and his personal activity is as a vocaloid composer. YOASOBI has been responsible for many theme songs for popular anime.
Saitama Super Arena has hosted anime song concerts many times, and is a popular place for Japanese otakus. The current LED light is the advanced type that was supported by psyllium in the past.

To answer your questions, this is actually Yoasobi last song in the concert. Ayase is the composer and producer of Yoasobi songs, Ikura is the vocalist of Yoasobi. They do have their own band.

In the past, the anime song singer genre was independent, so the names of singers were not well known to the average Japanese who did not watch anime.
However, about 10 years ago, in order to strategically market anime productions, the industry began requesting theme songs from top-level, well-known singers who represent Japan.
The synergy effect was tremendous for singers who were out of the past anime song theories and popular in real time.
Japanese people are quite surprised that songs sung in Japanese are accepted in foreign markets!

The video for this song has 465,000,000 views. It's a monster. I love the bass but also the descending chord progression and jazz chords. And ikura's a fabulous singer. Once she gets going in the song it's a long time before she can take a full breath. Great breath management. And the song is kind of dark, which fits coming from an anime about idols, murder, and revenge.

AI is not artificial intelligence. The reason why this music video has a high number of views is because when you watch it after seeing the first episode of the anime"Oshi no ko", you will be shocked and moved. After watching the first episode of the anime , you will understand why the music is structured this way, why the visuals are designed like this, and why the lyrics are the way they are. You will have a completely different reaction. It will not make you smile. We look forward to you uploading a video reacting to the official music video after you have watched the anime.
There is also an official English version. The remarkable aspect of this seemingly unnatural English translation is that it not only matches the sounds of the Japanese language but also aligns with the meaning of the story. In many cases, it matches the sound of the beginning and the end of the lyrics. Moreover, after listening to the Japanese version several times, when you listen to the English version, there are parts where it sounds like Japanese despite being in English. ENG"That emotion melts"=JPN"daremoga mewo" and ENG"Completely deny"=JPN"kanpekijanai" etc .

Ayase is a producer who primarily uses software, and so there is always a question of what he's going to do on stage since mostly he just has to push a button at the right time. But all that symphonic and choral backing is him in this piece. I also had to laugh when you caught that first key change because, as you found out, it's the first of many in this piece (which is very much in line with the themes of anime it's based on - that first 1.5 hour movie/episode is quite dark, but the series is great, offering a critique of a wide swath of the entertainment industry including the music industry - and such critique is VERY rare in Japanese culture.).
Actually, you might wish to check out the closing credit song from the same anime Mephisto by Queen Bee, a rock band fronted by a trans woman, Avu-chan. There is, indeed, a live version which is "only" at 4MM views.

Their first hit Yoru ni Kakeru is age restricted because of dark lyrics. The music video for Idol is dark if you've seen the anime. It's very sad. If you haven't seen the anime you won't get it. Just the first episode.

AYASE, who works DJ-like, is the composer and has full musical control, and the vocalist is the ikura, whom AYASE trusts and who writes all the lyrics. Creation is done by the two of them.
The other band members are hired as performance professionals who perform the songs that are created. Thus, the composer, vocalist and lyricist are the two yoasobi.

I don't particularly listen to YOASOBI but I know this song because I watched Oshi no Ko. This song was the top song in Japan in 2023 and was the fastest song to hit 500M streams in the country at 39 weeks. It peaked at number 7 on Billboard Global 200 and is the highest ranking song for a Japanese act. It was also the first Japanese song to top the Billboard Global excl. U.S. chart, and its music video hit 100M streams in about a month. So yeah, this song has a lot of records under its belt.
Since the video description says you're checking out Stray Kids for the first time today, may I suggest their big brothers at JYPE, 2PM? 2PM is a 2nd gen group. While they don't really make as much waves as their younger counterparts these days, these guys were huuuuuuuuuuuuuge during their heyday. Some of the members have a successful acting career so you'll often see them in kdramas. The group celebrated their 15th anniversary last year, and they've left a lasting impact on kpop. You'd be hard pressed to find a group that came after them who didn't idolize them growing up. Nickhun, a Thai American who is originally from SoCal, was the one who opened the doors for foreigners entering the kpop industry. In 2PM, you'll find a level of maturity and manliness that can be very hard to come by with newer kpop acts. Their nickname is the "beastly idols," and you'll quickly find out why if you watch their performances. Check out "A.D.T.O.Y." from their MUST comeback show in 2021. ruclips.net/video/IYR_ZWMXm1U/видео.html Their song "My House" went viral in 2019 and tons of groups did covers. Here's their performance at House Party in 2015: ruclips.net/video/JJhkj3EoB7g/видео.html

YOASOBI are serious pop-Rock; they would not be classified as Idol. Ikuta is also an actress and at only 23 collaborates with other artists. She has recently been the co voice lead with ano (not Ado) in Dead Dead Demons Dededededede Destruction. They both provide the themes for the two parts, which are tremendous.
