Yes, this is the best version of this song ever! 🤘🔥 You can listen the other versions of this song, and they’re nothing compared to this one IMHO. But of course, that’s just a matter of taste.

Marko made the phantom so different that this one sure stands out from how it normally is (it's also metal now but that's not as important).
The Phantom of the Opera is a musical from 1986 by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Its very well known, and this part (called Phantom of the Opera) is an iconic song that has been sung by lots of singers.

This was filmed in 2005, this show was the last show Tarja sang with Nightwish. She was fired after this show.

The long version: In early interviews, Tarja said that Nightwish was only a temporary solution. In 2001, Tuomas said in a private conversation that Tarja was a problem and that there would be a break. In 2003, Tarja finished her classical education and started making demands because she wanted to work solo. Her plans and those of Nightwish were incompatible and a break occurred. On this tour, Tarja and the band traveled to the concerts separately.

The origin is Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1986 musical that was based on 1909 novel by Gaston Leroux. It's kinda member of the horror genre.
You can find many versions on RUclips, my favorite classical one has Sarah Brightman (Andrew's wife) and Antonio Banderas in Royal theater in England.
Largest change is the way Marko sings, completely replacing classical approach with gritty vocals as the titular Phantom.
Edit: And yes it was 2005, some lighters and digital cameras. Smartphone wasn't invented yet.

Marko, the male singer here left the band a few years ago. Floor, the current singer you listened to before, joined the band in 2012. They recorded this same song with her and a dutch opera singer if you want to check it out. The Phantom of the opera is a musical.

I generally don't hear music in my dreams. But I'm not a musician and music isn't a high priority in my daily life.
Tarja was in the band for 9 years, Anette for 5 years, Floor for about 11 years up until now. Before she officially joined, she had already toured with the band for a year, so it's 12. Floor is at least as influential for Nightwish as Tarja, which is why I always hesitate to call Tarja the "original" singer. Actually, only one is original, Tuomas. The others are the interpreters of his music.
Tarja (1977) is 4 years older than Floor (1981). There's not a big age difference. Anette is another 6 years older than Tarja (1971).

@@GeorgeTheCloud Tarja was a lucky misunderstanding that ended in hatred. Mastermind Tuomas had met Tarja and guitarist Empuu in his school's jazz band. Tuomas had recorded "acoustic campfire music" with Empuu's help, but it didn't work instrumentally or with just Tuomas' voice. Together they ask Tarja for help and are surprised that she is now singing opera. Tuomas has to rewrite his songs and the Nightwish sound is born. In the first interviews, Tarja says that she wants to be an opera singer and that Nightwish is only temporary. In 2001, Tuomas says in a private conversation that he has a problem with two band members: the alcoholic bassist Sami and Tarja. He pushes the bassist out of the band and replaces him with Marko. Tarja finishes her classical education in 2003 and makes demands for a solo career. These are incompatible with the band's plans and the band and Tarja splits in 2005. The power struggle left a lot of bad blood and Tuomas and Tarja didn't speak to each other for years. Now they at least have small talk.
With Tarja, the band made it into the mainstream media. Tuomas hired a pop singer with a jazz voice as her successor. On the one hand, he hoped to stay in the mainstream, but on the other hand, this is probably closer to the original idea. But Anette doesn't have a classically trained voice and can't sing Tarja's songs the way fans are used to. It's OK in the studio, but live Anette gives the songs a jazzy vibe that doesn't work. Nightwish has robbed itself of its unique sound. The chart positions drop and Anette becomes afraid for her job. When she is pregnant and develops a high fever on tour, the band wants to send her home until after the birth. Anette thinks she is being pushed out of the band for her replacement and the argument escalates. Two days before the next concert, the band no longer has a singer.
Floor needs 20 hours to get there and is accordingly poorly prepared. But she is a mixture of her two predecessors and more. She was already a metalhead before she wanted to be a singer and had already been in two metal bands. Her versatility makes her the ideal Nightwish singer for me.
Others say only the "original singer" has the right Nightwish sound, Tarja. Anette has the fewest fans. Decide for yourself who is the best singer for you.
