Thank you Harvey! Always kinda never fully understood how the mechanical advance worked and how it could fail. My only complaint is I would've liked to see you assess and fix the Auto X's advance and you left us hanging at the end!
Thanks man I'm goona try this tomorrow on my 84 trx200 I have no spark and replaces the entire wiring harness never heard it run I bought it for 20$ hopefully thanks to this video I will hear it run soon thanks man
Thanks for this video. My pulse genartor got to close an sheered off the metal tit. Ran good when I parked it. Went to ride it. No spark. I took the cdi cover off an found the pieces. I found this video an checked my springs. They are there. But there very sloppy. Thanks again for this video. It helped me. And my 83 185s
my springs are broke and it will never stay idling by itself. Under load it works just fine. Under idle I can hear it misses every once in a while and it will die if you leave it alone. Guessing the springs are the culprit?
Just bought '85 200s. Its hard to start but person before removed decompressor so i fig that was why. I got it started but and it wouldnt idle and shut off. Pulled carb and stuff. Put together. Out of about 12 pulls it would try to start but shut down. Did that 3 times. I pulled plug to test spark and there wasnt one.so i guess its sporadic. I will take look at magnet to check springs and it its clean. Not really sure about adjustments? I dont believe you showed that, right? Thx

Hey Harvey, ever had a strange loud chirping noise coming from the top end ? Hard starting and runs bad. Very low hour 84’ Honda trx200. I’ve had it for years and it’s always ran well and is a garage queen. Just don’t know where to start. Thank you
Hey North Texas! Yes, seen this a few times, for some reason, Ur top end is not getting oil, seen it on a DX225, the oil filter was put in backwards, having a similar problem on a 400ex, I checked the oil filter, it is in correctly, so, I'm thinking the line that sends oil to the head is clogged.... Hey harvey, so one of the timing advance springs broke and the camshaft isnt lined up, theres times when it turns on then it throws a bit of an explosion and turns off, and i was wondering if you could help
My advance assembly is seized on the cam so I cant take it apart how do I fix this tried soaking it **update had a little talk with Mr prybar and mrs hammer and they persuaded it off lol no parts were harmed
I think i come across the part number for these springs. Honda Number #30224-437-000. I took the advancer assembly completely apart, is there just one way it goes back together?
The spark should be slightly before the piston reaches top dead centre, but as the engine revs faster it has to spark sooner to enable combustion to take place at The correct time so the advance unit makes the spark happen sooner the more you rev. Its all done by centrifugal force throwing weights out which moves the ignition plate

Usually you set the gap with a business card on mowers. So probably the same with this.
Mine takes forever to start then once it fires it runs great all day fires right up no issue next day won’t cold start worth a fuck

Getting ready to do to replace springs for a friend the springs are avalible new from Honda. xr200 motorcycle which are the same.

If the points or pulse generator isn't in a mag or stator its usually got a mechanical advance

I've had customers bring me these where they wouldn't start, ife found them with them put together 180 out, and with the pin lost out of the cam.
