    With Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Ultimate Edition arriving on Digital HD today and Blu-ray next month, last night Warner Bros. offered fans in select cities a chance to see the extended cut in movie theaters. Since information about this R-rated extended cut hit prior to the films theatrical release, fans have wondered if the extra thirty minutes would solve story problems, and if WB should have released the extended cut in theaters instead of the version that went out around the world.
    While I understand why WB wouldn’t want to release a three hour R-rated superhero movie (especially one designed to sell toys and t-shirts t kids) the version they put in theaters had so many story/script problems that even the most die-hard DC fans were left scratching their heads after the film ended wondering why certain decisions were made by the main characters.
    But after watching the ultimate edition last night, I can honestly say the three hour cut of Batman v Superman is such an improvement that I strongly suggest giving the film another chance. Not only does the North Africa sequence at the beginning of the film now make sense, you get to see Clark Kent be an investigative reporter, understand how Lex was pulling the strings to frame Superman, how Lex was behind the killings when Batman branded someone, and so much more.
    Besides the big scenes, which explain a lot, the ultimate edition is loaded with smaller moments tacked on to existing scenes. Have you wondered why Superman wasn’t able to see the bomb during the Senate hearings? That’s explained. After the bomb goes off, you see Superman helping the injured while people clearly don’t want him there. Remember when Clark leaves Metropolis to go into the mountains and talks with his father? That sequence has a new beginning.
    Also, the funeral towards the end, you get to see a lot of familiar faces you might remember from Man of Steel. There’s more with Wonder Woman. Longer fight sequences between our heroes. So many scenes have added moments it’s literally impossible to summarize them all here. But that’s what happens when you cut thirty minutes out of a three hour film. That’s one sixth of what Snyder wanted to release.
    When the film ended and we were leaving the theater, I started to feel bad for Zack Snyder. Since the film was released and got mediocre to terrible reviews, he’s stayed quiet and not said anything about his three hour cut and the film he wanted to release. He’s been a company man and supported Warner Bros. decision to release the shorter version.
    But it had to hurt.
    After watching his full cut I have to say I’m even more excited to see his take on Justice League. And I was pretty amped up after doing that set visit last week.
    Look, I’m not saying the Batman v Superman: Ultimate Cut solves all the problems. Far from it. How does Amy Adams know to go get the Kryptonite spear after throwing it away? Why couldn’t Superman keep trying to talk to Batman before their fight to explain how Lex was using them? He tries for like a second and then it's fight night. But the extended cut does solve tons of little things which didn’t make sense in the original release so instead of a dozens of problems, I’m only frustrated by a few things and it’s a lot easier to forgive a few things that dozens.
    I know many of you are not going to give the Ultimate Edition a chance because of whatever reason. But I’m telling you the Ultimate Edition is a radical change to the theatrical cut and if you’re a Batman or Superman fan you should absolutely check it out.
    Last night, right after watching the movie, Jon Schnepp, Dennis Tzeng, Umberto Gonzalez and I recorded a special episode of Collider Heroes. All four of us thought the ultimate edition was better than the theatrical cut and Schnepp, who didn’t like BvS, had the biggest transformation. Watch what we had to say in the video above.

      I think the reason it was so long in the first place ia because WB is rushing and wanted him to fit so much in this one movie. he had to continue the story from man of steel, introduce a new batman, introduce lex luthor and all his motivations, make wonder woman fit in the movie somehow, the creation of doomsday, all the justice league cameos, etc. he had to stuff so much in one movie that he had no choice but to shoot a ton of footage to fit this all in and he ended up with a 3 hr movie that flows pretty well. and then on top of all that they wanted him to cut it down to 2.5 hours which left important plot points on the cutting room floor. so I dont blame snyder at all. the studio wanted so much in one movie and he did the best he could

      A lesson they didn't learn, and in fact made a much worse decision with Justice League. It's such a damned, stomach churning, shame, that truly upsets me, and so many other day one DCEU fans, on a frequent basis.

    So the problem with the movie for you guys is that Superman doesn't try to talk to him but he tried multiple times
    There's a dialogue in the film for that

    Superman doesn't know who Bruce is YOU MUST BE JOKING

      +Flynn M She 1) tried getting it because it was a weapon or 2) she probably put 2 & 2 together and thought doomsday is an alien like superman it'll probably effect him. At least that's what I think. That scene really doesn't bother me, I've seen a variety of weird scenes I don't think it's fair for people to make a big deal out of this.

      Cute but also During an argument, Perry White tells Clark, “It’s not 1938 anymore.” 1938 is the year Action Comics #1 was published, which featured the first appearance of Superman.
      When Luthor is locked up in prison, you can see his prisoner number “16-TK421” on his jumpsuit. This is a reference to a line in Star Wars: A New Hope when Luke and Han take on Stormtrooper disguises and an officer asks, "TK421, why aren't you at your post?

    Always try to give Zack Snyder the benefit of the doubt. Dawn of the Dead was great, and 300 was a big hit (even made it into pop culture references), so we know he can make competent films. Watchmen was hated when it was released in theaters, but that's only because the studio cut it to pieces, and the Ultimate Cut was widely praised. Apparently the same is true for Batman v Superman. Maybe before we try to mass shame him, and try to destroy his career, we should at least wonder if a theatrically released movie of his is actually his original vision.

      Movie Watcher Dude, here are HIS OWN WORDS:
      “We were just like, ‘Okay, look. We’re not making a three-hour movie. I mean, even I didn’t want to make a three-hour movie,” Snyder says. “I drove the cuts probably harder than anyone. The studio, they were willing to let the movie indulge pretty hard. But I felt like it’s at a manageable two-and-a-half hours. Let’s also not forget the credits are super long, the end credits. So the movie’s closer to two hours and 22 minutes.”

      +Hingle McCringlebaby 5 is an average rating from 1-10. That's how medians work. It isn't a grading scale of 0-100, where 70 is a passing grade, it's a metric whereas all film should be given a flat 5, and added or subtracted points based on the merits of the film. A 7/10 would be a VERY positive review of a film from many professional critics, 8.5 would be incredible. Anything OVER 5 would be a positive review, it isn't "a personal opinion", it's the agreed on protocol for using a 1-10 scaling system with all forms of punditry. Fans using a point system is only muddying the waters for what should be an extremely easy to understand and face value metric system.

    The funny thing I've noticed is that "consider this mercy/do you bleed" scene makes so much more sense now and feels so deeper! It really surprised me.
    Because in this cut, Superman really thinks Batman is a cruel man who brands and stabs people and only "a fist" can stop him, etc., so when you see this scene, it feels so different than in theatrical cut. Now you understand why he acts and sounds so presumptuous and haughty, like "consider this mercy" like he really thinks he speaks with some awful person.

    How did everyone miss the point of the "Martha" scene? Batman doesn't stop fighting Superman because their mothers have the same name, he stopped because he realized Superman had a mom. That he wasn't just an alien here to impose his will. He was raised here, and he cares about the people on this planet. It baffles me that so many people missed this.

    17:00 - Lex creating Doomsday is the backup plan in case Batman doesn't kill Superman. Lex doesn't care whether the planet lives or dies, he knows it has no chance against what is coming (knowledge from the Kryptonian archive). NOTE: I've yet to see the ultimate edition so I am basing this purely on the theatrical cut of the film.

    Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition was a masterpiece in my opinion because it helped the story flow better & their are some scenes that extended longer than what thertical cut shown us. I know a lot of people were not on board with Jessie Eisenberg just because of the weird gestures he was acting as Lex, but I gotta say though his evil mastermind plan was genius & to be honest he wasn't all that bad or terrible at all. I loved how the UC showed a scene where Superman is helping out with the humans that were completely wounded or perhaps dead after the capital blew up inside. The editing & pacing was still a lithe choppy and ended short, but overall I thought the Ultimate Edition was just fansastic. I gave the Thertical cut an 8.8/10 but I gave the Ultimate Cut a 9.5/10.

    Zang's comment is very interesting, of how Lex kidnapped Martha to force him to fight. Yet, after all that setup to get Superman to fight, he went and kidnapped Martha. Why bother?
    What Zang is forgetting, is that unlike a mentally traumatized Batman, Superman is a good wholesome Boy Scout. His character cannot be so easily corrupted and manipulated. After all the setup and manipulation, he still could not get Superman to really WANT to fight Batman. The only way to force the issue at that point, was to kidnap his mother.

    The real question is why have a script that was 4 hours long in the first place. Thats why the movie had to be trimmed so much.

    • @michaelbuckelew
      @michaelbuckelew 8 лет назад +3

      I think most movies originally get scripted much longer and then they make cuts based on what works once it's been shot. You can do reshoots to add something, but it's obviously easier to just trim something that worked better in your head that it did in reality.

      I heard there's a 5 hour cut of Phantom Menace somewhere.
      And a 5 hour version of Django Unchained.
      So whether movies are good or bad has nothing to do with their total footage actually shot versus final edit runtime.

    • @jeremyroberts8822
      @jeremyroberts8822 8 лет назад

      because look how much the studio wanted in this one movie. he had to make the movie long. they wanted wonder woman, the justice league cameos, lex luthor, doomsday. he had no choice but to film a shit ton of footage to fit all this stuff in. its just as much if not more the studios fault than it was his.

    In the film, I considered Doomsday as a metaphor for man creating a weapon of his own demise (eg. the atomic bomb), which is why I loved the irony of the "key red" sequence. Also, Doomsday is genetically part Lex. I"m sure he thought it wouldn't kill him simply because it would sense his creator.

      +ZombiesHowl lol. The Wayne's themselves are famous and own many things in Gotham. How does everyone else know who Bruce is but a reporter with super powers doesn't.
      If he knows who lex, he should know who Bruce is.
      They should have made it that Bruce had been laying low for years and really only comes out as batman.
      And even then. If Clark is reporting that story so deep as he was. He would definitely know who it was.
      If he could hear Louis falling and drowning. Then he could hear batman breaking arms on Gotham.

    • @RedCharlotte_
      @RedCharlotte_ 8 лет назад

      MKUltra Rex hes always listening to know hen lois is in trouble. he would know that batman is beating people up just sitting there, because many people fight in gotham so how could he distinguish whos fighting who and its not like pre new 52 superman who can hear everything on earth. this superman has to concentrate on a specific thing to find it, like when he tries to locate martha

    • @dazza818
      @dazza818 8 лет назад

      ZombiesHowl because he's specifically looking for batman. So hmmmm, let's think how to find when batman is about. Maybe that big light that shines in the air, Maybe the sound of the bat mobile, maybe the sound of the bat wing taking off or maybe the fact that criminals are shouting "it's the batman"
      There's many ways someone with supermans abilities could spot that the guy in the mask is the famous billionaire Bruce Wayne.
      Like they say in the review. It is a flaw/nit pick in the movie that doesn't need to be there.
      Plus people actually do know who the billionaires are. Especially people in the media. Who report on things like shares, finance and heirs to fortunes.
