It took Romans 3 years to reduce Carthage's defenses and that after Carthaginians agreed to hand over all their weapons & armor in an attempt to make peace.

One of my biggest gripes is the stupidly excessive use of fire, flame weapons and gun analogues in historical movies and TV series. Since America just LOVES its guns every medieval self bow or Elvish longbow has to be either a submachinegun or a sniper weapon with one shot one kill capability.

717 wasn't the first unsuccessful siege of Constantinople by the Arabs but by custom the second, with the first being in 669. Arguably they actually had made many more attempts- 654 as a prelude naval battle, 655, 669, 674-8, and then 717-18. Room for definitions, but 717 definitely not the first.
