- AMD Talks Zen 5 RELEASE PLANS & More Strix Point Info Drops
In their recent Q1 2024 earnings call, AMD talked on many interesting product updates - but today, we will be discussing the Zen 5 release plans and on the highly aniticpated Ryzen AI Strix Point NPU. Join as we examine AMD's PLANS for the Zen 5 release date roadmap (and when we think Ryzen 9000 will be announced), touching on what we've heard about the next gen Zen CPU, and discussing Ryzen Strix Point hardware specs, further info on the product stack we can expect for AMD Strix Point.
Zen 5 is, safe to say, highly anticipated after months of leaks on the specifications, performance and expected MSRP for the next gen Ryzen CPU - but will it meet those high expectations? And what of Strix Point? Safe to say, it will be very interesting when AMD takes the stage to announce these.

Need chapters my guy
No need . He repeats all things you heard plus few new things you can read on videocardz on your way to work or school . (Or any other website I'm not advertising Videocardz)
I'd say you need a kiss on your forehead.
For what its a video not a book. Just watch it. I forgot you kids don't have a long attention span
Hahahahahaahahahhahh
@@SniperWolf2024are you saying a book is for people with short attention spans??? Do you complain when a story is split into several books?
You need to start taking some multivitamins or something, I’ve never seen anyone get sick as often as you
Need to get more sun and fresh air too, although he might be doing that more frequently now as in the last video in which he was on-camera, he didn't look as pale as he normally does. Still, weather's getting warmer, so go outside often, Paul!
I think it's just his go-to excuse, I don't believe he's sick this often
Yeah, that's very strange to get sick that often. Since I got Covid in April 2022 I haven't gotten sick until now.
~35 TFLOPS is very impressive, that's 3.4-3.5GHz for the iGPU clocks.
40CU x 64SP = 2560SP
2560SP x 2 (2 OPs per SP per cycle) x 2 (Dual Issue) x 3.4GHz = 34,816 GFLOPS = 34.816 TFLOPS
For Comparison 7700XT has 35.168 TFLOPs at it's rated boost clock of 2544MHz, in reality though it's a bit lower than that since average game clock from different reviews and good AIB models is 2450-2500MHz. 7800XT has 37.325 TFLOPs at rated boost clock of 2430MHz.
Realstically dual issue FLOPS only applies in limited circumstances so it's more like half that.
It's much easier/faster to mark the calculation as:
CU quantity x 128 x clock frequency.
If dual issue ever becomes a more dependable thing across the entire compute µArch then you can substitute 128 for 256.
LP SoC cores sound like AMD's branding for what Intel calls LP E-cores.
for sure altho I think (and hope) it's specifically made just to handle things in the background rather than always trying to contain work on the low power ecores whenever it can resulting in a more sluggish system like with meteor lake
should help with idle power consumption as it doesn't have to go out to the CCDs
They're not E-Cores. Additionally, cores on the IO die can run while the PC is off which is fun to think about security-wise.
If AMD fucks this up, it's gonna be so sad. So much anticipation on Zen 5.
They could literally take over laptops, AI, handhelds, servers, consoles, and of course, DIY PCs all at once.
thus, accelerating AMD to become the next intel.
While arms and risc-v slowly takes over.
wonder if anyone is still debating Firefox vs Internet explorer today.
I am afraid of the same thing. I pray we don't end up with a Bulldozer situation. If it really has as much improvement as some reports. Intel is in real trouble of losing significant market share. I am glad they have competition to push innovation and help price.
No, they CAN'T because laptop makers can't sell them past a certain percentage no matter HOW GOOD they are. AMD has moved into the desktop space because there are more DIYers in that space, but laptop has been almost impossible for AMD to get much over 10% very much like how they are competing against Nvidia in the graphics space.
AMD would have to have 3 generations in a row where they are CLEARLY better than Intel, as in substantial AND cost less and no matter how many times people in these comment threads talk about price, almost all comments about price are people talking out their A hole. AMD has the lowest profit margin of Intel, Nvidia and AMD consistently so whatever prices they have right now, that's about as good as it gets. So when they launch these products, on a more advanced TSMC node I don't think they get enough reduction in die space to make up for the higher price of the node.
And the next point, AMD needs to put out products that WORK RIGHT from the beginning, not products that need 3 or 4 AGESA updates before they FINALLY work the way AMD intended.
And this then gets back to how most the global population views AMD, which is the budget option. So when AMD has to charge about the same as Intel, that's not a budget option and the typical global human being says "might as well get Intel, it's better because it has Intel Inside", and it doesn't matter if the AMD laptop is actually better.
And then you look down this comment thread and there's the next common response, "AMD will be the next Intel". OK, but AMD makes a smaller profit margin regardless of what they're charging the consumer so whatever they're charging is what they NEED to make to be competitive. It's the kind of comment that suggests buying Intel so AMD doesn't become the next Intel, which is ABSURD to say THAT!! THAT is what keeps Intel being Intel, THAT mindset.
So there they are, the two main groups of people that keep Intel being Intel, one being clearly represented in this comment thread and I see it all the time.
@@kennyjohnson8479 Dude that's not really what the OP means. There is NO WAY Zen 5 is going to be like Bulldozer trying to catch Intel. AMD already is clearly better than Intel because AMD can use about 1/2 the power to do the same thing Intel does with 12th - 14th gen, sometimes all the way down to 1/3rd the power.
He means that Zen 5 is supposed to be more like a knock out punch. If it is, they will dominate handhelds, servers, consoles, PCs. I highly doubt they could dominate laptop though because Intel Inside is what corporate business people understand. AMD could make something 3X better than an Intel laptop and it be priced the same and laptop makers won't be able to sell the AMD laptop.
Zen 5 will put them in a comfortable position, Alder Lake though will probably get Intel up to about the same level, but still at higher power consumption that AMD though better than 12th - 14th gen.
It's going to be Zen 6 that can give the knock out punch, so AMD needs to get to THAT line about 18 months after they put out Zen 5.
Zen 6 is going to add ANOTHER 10% to IPC alone AND AMD should be able to clock it faster AND use less power. It's a CPU/MCM architectural change, where Zen 5 is more of a change to the cores. So, wild guess is Zen 6 is another 15% on top of Zen 5. And it's going to be those 2 big jumps in a row, IF AMD can get to Zen 6 pretty quickly that gives them the big advantage. But they're dependent on TSMC. Zen 6 HAS to be on TSMC N3 or N2. Expect Zen 6 to cost more, but it's going to be worth it.
I have luekopenia and want to say if you're sick, it's no excuse to not push yourself. I run 6 minute miles with the flu and continually pushing myself has helped my general physical health, mental health, and overall productivity significantly.
@RedGammingTech-It has been reported that MSI is no longer going to build AMD video cards since they are selling so badly. What is your cut on this?
that little guitar riff at the very end... where is that from??
The not upgrading tip spot on 👍
Exciting to see so many new products this year.
I hope Intel won't let us down again.
how come there are so few leaks over intel next gen?
will Strix Halo also come to AM5 as a socketed APU?
I hope the N44 is a turbo charged 7600xt, its all I want.
You said that strix point will have a cpu cluster in the iodie?
Does this mean they’re not monolithic?
Because you wouldn’t have an IO Die on prior APUs because they were monolithic.
Zen5 APUs are SoCs connected by a substrate similar to what intel is doing with Arrow lake I'm pretty sure.
What I want to know is this, will Sarlak have a Desktop SKU, or will it be solely mobile/minipc based like some seem to think it will be? ive seen people claim that Sarlak is too big to squeeze onto a socketed chip, which will absolutely suck if true, cuz i was planning to use it for my living room HTPC after i finish my gaming build (hopefully next month), and upgrade my existing prebuilt with a better case, ram, GPU and CPU. If its not socketable i guess ill just grab whatever MinisForum puts out with it.
Desktop doesn't necessarily mean SOCKETED desktop.
@mnomadvfx what else does desktop mean if not socketed? Most of the mini PCs are using mobile chipsets. How does desktop not mean socketable in the context of CPUs?
I can't wait to see reviews about Strix point laptops and, especially, mini pcs 😂 i mean, an updated version of the Geekom A7 with 16 RDNA 3.5 CUs and 12 Zen 5/Zen 5c cores could be a beast, if the rumors about nex gen apus will turn out to be true. I'dont want to, but i'm so hyped up, fuck xD
Tbh I just want to stick to am4 till maybe ryzen 9000.
I really want and to release the 5900x3d and 5950x3d they showed off at ces a long time ago before x3d released.
Am4 = zen 4 so idk why you said to get a zen 5 board with a zen 4 cpu
I got only one qeston for you am5 is it gona live up to 11000 ones and if so should i go for low end 7600 or 8600 then w8 for end of am5 11800x3d y know because price now days is crazy and it is possible my last build since am not rich rich unless i win lottery 😂 that and i need to save up for my health and family ❤ for future 😅 and tnx for reading it
To be clear, AMD never mentioned Zen 5 for Ryzen/desktop, or RDNA4. Like... are they still even doing consumer desktop outside of APUs?
granite ridge is desktop Zen5
Paul, AMD quarterly earnings for Radeon is really bad. People not buying RDNA3 cos it's grossly over priced. Let's hope RDNA4 delivers the goods and comes in at sensible msrp.
Disagree with him about not jumping AM5 now if you are gamer. 7800X3D is still great even after vanilla Zen5 release this year. I'm waiting 9800X3D anyway. If you buy vanilla 9000 later this year then gaming variant will still be a lot better next year
X3D? Enjoy your exploded CPU socket, nerd.
7800x3d is a beast when tuned well.
I’m running 6400 cl28-36-36-30-66 @ 1.490v ( tuned secondaries ) / fclk 2167 / bclk 101 / LLC low
With a 4090 & it is very fast.
I’ll be upgrading when the 9800x3d drops
AMD SUCKS Intel better
@@lldjslim what ever helps you sleep at night sir
@@lldjslim lol, cry harder shill, the 7800X3D beats intel in all but like 3 gaming benchmarks, as does the 7950X3D, and in some cases, the 5800X3D.
The audio sounds bad for some reason (crackling/popping)
I’ll again bro see a doctor tomorrow.
Strix Point Halo will be so expensive it will be utterly pointless.
If “your PC exploded”, you might have bigger problems than buying a new PC?
Even if your thermal paste dries up, they don’t normally explode?
lol he's just being hyperbolic for the sake of making a point
Perfect apu for mobile gaming would be 8cores zen 5 + 40CU. It seems even the basic AMD APU will be like 5 times faster than the Switch 2... thats apparently only gonna have 4 teraflops... in 2025... and its gonna be expected to last until like 2032+... nintendo is a joke.
Only way I'm going to stay with AMD is if they release the 8900xtx before the 5000 series. I know rumor says they won't release high-end gpu but I have faith they will suprise us
A disappointing surprise. Just accept the fact, no high end RDNA next gen from AMD. They scraped it ages ago.
Theyve basically confirmed it at this point that high end isnt happening this gen of GPU, well get around 7900XTX level performance with better ray tracing for a much lower price tho, so theres that, and then next gen should be a fucking monster with how much time its going to have to cook.
They never actually said that they are not giving us a high-end.. it's all rumors. At this point
@scottstuard228 then why aren't we seeing the SKUs in software updates and why are leaders only talking about N44/N48? It's not happening my dude, I wish it were, but it's not. We'll have to wait until RX9000.
@@BigAndTattooed it could be that nVidia limits it's GPUs to less than what's rumored, in that case we could have AMD market what's targeted at Mid range as high end.
Otherwise the rumors will come true, & stay true for next 1.5-2.5 years.
I don't know why, but I hate this strix word
First
You lie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sigh. Okay, you win
I don't want AI spyware bs built into my computers. This nonsense is annoying af.
I kind of wish they'd stop advertising shit so far ahead of time honestly. I don't even want to upgrade my hardware anymore because I know the following year there will be something way better.
No information about AMD CPU reliability running productivity apps compared to Intel. It's not all fun and games.
lol, theres "no information" because they run it fine, otherwise reviewers would have said so by now, there are too many tech youtubers running AMD for them to not notice productivity issues, and the 7950X beats the 14900k in some productivity benchmarks. weve spent the last 2 weeks hearing about intels KS SKUs dieing, you really think if AMD had a productivity issue it wouldnt be plastered all over the news?
@@StretchDattass The reason I mentioned it was because I watched a review a couple of days ago that brought up this very issue, stating that AMD was superior for gaming but that with apps, especially those like video editors, there were more problems with AMD CPUs than Intel, and I've heard similar commentaries in the distant past, just not talked about very often.
@johndzwon1966 anything you've heard in the "distant past" is long past irrelevant, that's the same logic as "AMD GPUs had driver issues 10 years ago, so obviously they still have driver issues now". If it's only being talked about by 1 person, it's probably their own bias and not a real issue, especially considering AMD matches or out performs intel in most productivity benchmarks.
This man says surprisingly little in 10 minutes
Unfortunately yes. It has been this way for some time.
