    Ralph Macchio did play it perfectly: Daniel really is not a sympathetic character or sweet kid -- He's actually kind of a whiny little punk who almosts asks to be picked on. But, the bullies play their parts so convincingly & with such intensity that you wanna see Daniel kick their asses in the end

    • @ThomasRobinson-by2wm
      @ThomasRobinson-by2wm 2 месяца назад +3

      Not so. Daniel's a good kid who's just headstrong at times. Moving to a new city where he doesn't know anyone, saying goodbye to his friends and family in Jersey, and getting picked on (nearly) all the time in his new school, of course Daniel might seem "whiny". But I guess fighting back and not letting bullies push him around means Daniel "asked to be picked on".

    • @Tarantulisimo
      @Tarantulisimo 2 месяца назад +2

      @@ThomasRobinson-by2wm Yes yes I know that Daniel is actually a good kid who's a headstrong fish out of water -- I've seen the movie. I wasn't trying to get into an in-depth psychoanalysis of Daniel & go through his whole origin story, I was merely saying that on the surface he doesn't come across as sympathetic kid (by design), & that by coming across as whiny in high school, it does lend itself to being picked on. But again, if he hadn't been picked on then he wouldn't have become The Karate Kid, so in the end the universe unfolded as it should

    • @ThomasRobinson-by2wm
      @ThomasRobinson-by2wm 2 месяца назад

      @@Tarantulisimo He actually is more sympathetic and you don't have to look to hard at that. The only time Daniel starts getting "whiny" is after the Cobras ran him down a frickin hill. If that's a reason to pick on him, it's a shit one.

    • @paulyp9853

    Martin lives about 10 min from me here in Nashville. I did some plumbing work on his house after he moved in. Billy was already living here, and talked Martin into packing up and moving to Nashville. He doesn’t live in a big fancy home. It’s a 1 story older house with a lot of land. He lives by himself. He’s a cool guy that loves to talk about the karate kid movie.
    I asked him one day when I was at his house,, about the scene where he punched the car windows that shattered. I asked if it was real glass or sugar glass…. He told me that scene was filmed twice, a year apart. The glass was gimmicked to be mechanically shattered as he was punching, to where he never touches the window,, but the equipment didn’t work on the 2nd window, and he ended up putting his fist through the window for real. It cut him up real bad and caused some serious damage. He came back a year later after being completely healed up, to finish filming the scene… he said that the shot of his fist shattering the window and his arm going through, was filmed the first session. So when they came back the next year. They filmed him pulling his fist back out of the window, showing the blood

    1984 was the best year of movies ever, there may be some arguments for some late 90s years after pulp fiction was released and studios were making independent stylized studio films like American Beauty etc. But I don't think they beat 1984.
    Karate Kid, Nightmare on Elm Street 1, Terminator 1, Bachelor Party, Beveryly Hills Cop, Breakin, CHUD, Children of the Corn, Company of Wolves, Conan the Destroyer, Dune, Firestarter, Footloos, F13 4, Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Hot Dog, Indiana Jones Temple of Doom, Karate Kid, The last Starfighter, Never Ending Story, 1984, Ninja III The Domination, Police Academy, Purple Rain, Razorback, Revenge of the Nerds, Silent Night Deadly Night, Sixteen Candles, Star Man, Star Trek Search for Spock, This is Spinal Tap, Toxic Avenger, Toy Soldiers,

    A couple of corrections it's macchio and ralph did most of his own stunts not counting tumbling down the hill on the bike and when he was running from the cobras and he jumped onto the cars to get away from them that was a stunt guy

    I saw Pat Morita(Mr. Miyagi) at Imperial Palace Casino almost 20 years ago around 2005. I was so excited because I love the Karate Kid and loved the Miyagi character. He got a marker for $500 to play craps. I decided to quickly introduce myself and when I approached him he was rude and mean. I was shocked obv because I was expecting this super nice grandfatherly type that I saw in the Karate Kid movies.
    I walked away and talked to a Pit Boss who told me that Pat Morita a regular gambler there and was unfriendly and rude to everyone. He also told me he was a degenerate gambler who lost lots of money.
    Also fyi Imperial Palace Casino is no longer around but it was a dump. Pretty old and run down. So to see Pat Morita there was a shock but the fact that he was a regular there tells me he probably lost most of his savings. He died a few years later, my guess broke.

    the weirdest part i always wondered was it was just some nothing karate tournament. i went to heaps as a kid and nobody in the real world cared or even knew about them. then decades later Daniel has a car showroom and is doing the miyagi stick still, and johnny is a drunk lost cause still sulking after 2 decades. they kind of made up at the end and she went off to do the football team or something anyway. the original in the cinema as a 15yr old martial artist still resonates with me today. and Rocky 4.
