Nerds are seen as a positive thing in society, and nowadays it's "cool" to be a nerd. An otaku is a guy who's so obsessed with video games, anime, and the internet that they're unemployed, have zero social skills, are inherently assholes, and are basically seen as disgusting man children. If you unironically identify yourself as an otaku, you're basically labeling yourself as a waste of space. It's not something to be proud of or flaunt around like a badge of honour like a lot of people seem to think. In Japan it has an insanely negative meaning. Being called an otaku isn't even remotely comparable to being called a nerd, it's far _far_ worse. So yes if you label yourself as one you deserve to be mocked. You're being a fucking weeaboo who doesn't even know they're insulting themselves. And this comes from someone who actually watches and enjoys some anime and reads a bit of manga.

Being an "otaku" isn't a good thing, and it's not something to be proud of. It's not really comparable to nerds either. Nerds are seen as a positive thing in society, and nowadays it's "cool" to be a nerd. An otaku is a guy who's so obsessed with video games, anime, and the internet that they're unemployed, have zero social skills, are inherently assholes, and are basically seen as disgusting man children. If you unironically identify yourself as an otaku, you're basically labeling yourself as a waste of space.
It's not something to be proud of or flaunt around like a badge of honour like a lot of people seem to think. In Japan it has an insanely negative meaning. Being called an otaku isn't even remotely comparable to being called a nerd, it's far _far_ worse. So yes if you label yourself as one you deserve to be mocked. You're being a fucking weeaboo who doesn't even know they're insulting themselves. And this comes from someone who actually watches and enjoys some anime and reads a bit of manga.

All these loot boxes are basically just Barney Stinson's "cheerleader effect" applied to nerdy knicknacks. Each item individually is undoubtedly junk, but put all together in a "treasure box" they give an appearance of something valuable and attractive.

Ya know, my favorite thing in this entire lot is definitely the Golden Homer Buddha, but the _World of Warcraft_ Deathwing "Deathling" was pretty neat, too! And believe it or not, the wood-mounted fake red pearl (?) from the Lucky Bag was something I'd definitely like to own. It looks cool!

It's more for the excitement of getting a mysterious box full of random goodies, and the joy of opening it up and exploring your loot. It's like a mini Christmas. Of course, that isn't really worth it for some people, but it's quite fun if you have the money. (I, unfortunately, don't. Ah well.)

Cock Fucking Diarrhea Slurper I love this damn comment. I feel absolutely alienated by those products. I like some anime I can count with my hands (which it means I'm not an anime fan in the slightest), love wrestling and just a handful of videogames, and I dont consider myself of fan of anything other than wrestling.. and music. I like geeky stuff, but just a handful of it. Literally the only thing I was interested on was the WoW figure (since I like the LORE not the games) and the Terminator head which came out 2 years ago and that's it. Those loot boxes make me feel like an outsider from the "nerdy, geek" world. And that scares me.
Also fuck FunkoPop vinyls and their competence. I cannot stand them. I want to see a faithful representation of the characters to be mainstream, not this generic, overpriced tat.
