The Toy Box - Now cheaper! the-toy-box.biz
We've got Juggernauts! Boba Fetts! Sky Divers! T-shirts! Comics! And lots of anime I don't understand!
#lootcrate #unboxing #ashens
They should instead make Lutecrate: each week you get a piece of a lute so you can build your own and strum away as you enjoy your new life as a bard.
Kapotin How did you not get the joke???
Don't be giving that company that sells magazines at £9 each with a bit of a thing every week ideas.
I can honestly imagine they'd do it, judging by some of the bizarre shite I've seen in the newsagents. And weirdly I only ever see issue #1 that's being sold at 99p or something (with usually £9.99 in brackets). I can't ever remember seeing one of the weird things at full price. Porcelain pigs were one of the strangest I've seen, teeny little pot oinkers, like who buys shite like that? Especially at £8.99 a pop.
or fill it with lutefisk.
27:25 Rare footage of Ashens genuinely excited!
>hellsing? never heard of it
>entirely obscure comic nobody remembers? allow me to get extremely excited, and talk about my collection and extensively encyclopedic knowledge of it
hah. classic ashens.
Or obscure 1980s videogame that released on one PC
hellsing is an anime 13 episode series
Can you believe him though? I question anything he says now. Like he thinks the PlayStation was released in 2000 for fucks sake, and yet didn't even comment on the Xbox game in a 90s box, the Xbox that was released in 2001.
And this from a guy that's published books about video games. I'm just a nobody that plays games, and even I know the basic shite you'd expect from someone that claims he's a gamer.
@@tonyc7879 We're all proud of you Tony. Keep fighting the good fight.
Tony C78 a version of the PlayStation 1 was released in 2000 in the UK but go off 🤷🏻♀️
Please put a picture of Chef Excellence in the Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure Most Excellent Picture Frame.
Tiger & Bunny will soon be getting a live-action Hollywood movie, or perhaps not since investors are beginning to bail on Global Road Entertainment, the upstart studio that got the rights to it, and there have been layoffs.
Please do this Ashens!
I was half-expecting "An Excellent Most Excellent Picture Frame" to be the post-"Like and Subscribe" screen sting image.
Or Tom Baker (or pick your favorite Doctor)
An excellent idea
When I hear "We are on a mission from God" I immediately think of The Blues Brothers.
Probably by design.
Me too.
I dunno, maybe no-one apart from me and a few others watches the M.U.S.C.L.E. videos, but from the start the draw of this channel has been watching Stuart interacting with stuff he's passionate about, in good or bad. Whether it's ridiculous tat or random beloved piece of tech or an interesting toy, or horribly outdated food for that matter... That has always been the best content on this channel. For a while there it seemed to me like Stu was making some videos because the analytics told him to make them (which is fine in a way, it's a job after all, it's not always exactly what you want) and there wasn't really a huge connection there, but recently there's been a lot of stuff where you can really see his love shine through. Hope you're happy doing what you do Stu, make videos of stuff if you think it'll work out for you financially, but know that it's also fine to make less popular videos about stuff you really want to make videos about. =)
Seeing him get excited about Toxic was great.
The Toy Box..box is my favorite of these monthly subscriptions that you do; always excited when you get one. Lovely lovely stuff!
I loved hearing the pure happiness in Stuart’s voice when he was talking about the Toxic comic
I believe nipple scraping is actually quite popular over on the Boba Fett fansite, FettLife.
A hive of scum and villainy.
I only get that joke because I am a deviant.
everyone knows the 90s lasted until at least 2002.
also I loved how excited you got when you saw the Toxic! comic. like, the genuine awe and happiness, haha.
The playstation was released in 1995 in the UK, I think you're thinking of the PS2 perhaps?
Just gonna say. I demand a retraction and apology lol
Yeah, that line blew my mind. Pretty damn sure in 1997 I was playing Final Fantasy VII on the thing.
DragonNexus
I also remember resident evil coming out in 1998 if i can recall.
I could be wrong
The PS one (smaller, rounder, redesign) came out in 2000, but the box is clearly the 95 original.
I was just going to say the same thing! Crash Bandicoot released in bloody 1996 over here!
The only subscription boxes that are any good are ones that are aimed at a very specific demographic, like say model kit builder, miniature painters, D&D players.
Pretty much because they are aimed a lot more narrowly than the general "here's geeky stuff" nature of moat lootboxes.
Yep
Say, where would one find that box, if it still exists?
My mom cancelled the subscription to Toxic! when she opened it up and there was a panel of The Driver where he'd crushed someone's head and their eyeball popped out and then he ate it, then spat it out saying something like 'real men don't wear contact lenses'.
That's a bit much for a kids mag
That's hilarious.
To answer the Fantastic Four question, a woman named Sharon Ventura held the name Ms. Marvel for a while (I THINK Carol Danvers was inactive at that point?), and she transformed into a female version of the Thing for some reason, while ol' Ben Grimm became even rockier.
This was during the short period where Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman were Avengers, along with the Captain (Steve Rogers, after the Govt. took the "Captain America" title from him), Thor, and the Forgotten One (a.k.a. Gilgamesh of the Eternals).
It was a weird time...
As Linkara would no doubt say, comics can quite often be weird.
_I_ watch the M.U.S.C.L.E. videos, Ashens.
So that makes two of us.
I do, too. They were some of my favorite toys.
It's funny.. I live in Denmark, right across the pond from GB, is an 80's kid, and I've never once in my life come across them before.
same here
Count me as well. Not a fan of MUSCLE, but those were interesting videos.
Same here. RUclips's just being a bitch-sow by not showing most people all of the videos you put out. But the bell always rings on my end to tell me when you put out a video involving weird tat and dodgy food and electronic gubbins.
Speaking of which, considering that you and Harry Partridge have a load of Trashbag Bunch figures, that's a collab just waiting to happen. Come to think of it, it would probably be the first collab you've had since the Toxic Mutants/Monsta Fizz video from late 2012.
Also, as a side-note, it's kind of a shame that they effectively removed the Squats from the galactic stage by having the Tyranids eat most of them.
Yes, Simple Simpson was released in season 15 in 2004. This was the first appearance of Pie Man. So definitely not just 90s.
Thanks for the info, I loved that episode
Ps1 .... 2000? Ashens, you've gone goofed. Love the nostalgia boxes. Makes me want to buy stuff on eBay though
The PlayStation came out in the UK in the mid-90s, you berk.
I wonder if he was thinking of the PS one, the slimline version of it.
Either that or my copies of Fifa World Cup 98 and F1 98 fell through some sort of bizarre timewarp.
yeah he's mixing it up with the PSone version
29 September 1995
Ashens is a fantastic video maker fella knows his stuff everyone welcome to the odd error
Make Ashens Great Again
Never heard of Toxic, it’d be great if you did a vid covering them or other strange things from your childhood most people never knew existed.
honestly, if i was going to buy loot crate, i'd prefer to have 2 shirts than a shirt and a pop-figure.
then again, i'm not going to buy a loot crate because i'm not stupid.
Yeah and I want pants and socks too.....
Just wear the t-shirt upside down and tape up the neck hole for emergency pants
I just assumed everyone thought these things were a ripoff
Very, very surprised that Ashens didn't know when the PS1 was released in Europe! It's really the kind of thing you would expect him to know!
Hearing you just light up at the toxic comic was incredibly fun.
>Action figure trivia
>cool 90s comics
>excited Ashens
>old outro
Yup, this was a fantastic episode
Excellent Adventure on the box, Bogus Journey on the frame. INCONSISTANT!
Inside the frame was still excellent adventure though.
Two T-Shirts?!?... AntMan Strokes TheWasp... is that a porn movie? :-)
Lots of Schpingo Cream in that one
Ask Eli
Nah, that's TheWasp Strokes Antman.
Somewhat more popular than Smeagol Stroke Gollum.
i can already see it on ph
The packaging for that Bill & Ted frame is better than the frame itself, surprisingly
Cool, a US wallet without coin pocket. So useful for us Europeans.
+Samurai Shampoo You don't think people need change for bus tickets and various other things that you can't pay for with debit or credit cards?
likefactoriesfaraway You can’t pay with card on the bus? Where in Europe isn’t that possible!
-Krystian C. The UK...? Ive been up to Durham and you can pay by card there, but you cant in West Yorkshire where I'm from.
Samurai Shampoo you can’t pay for the bus with a credit card what kind of shit country is that?
I'm a European and I recently switched to a US wallet like that, and, contrary to my expectations, it's actually much more convenient to just have your change in your pocket (or even just leave it home). It's kind of difficult to explain why, but it somehow works very well, at least for me. :-)
The "King of Heroes" pouch is also a reference to Tiger & Bunny, it has the colors of the 2 main heroes, its one of my fav anime of all time ;]
There was a year or two that the Thing was leader of the FF w/ Johnny Storm, Crystal of the Inhumans, and Sharon Ventura aka Ms. Marvel a UCW wrestler friend and sometimes love interest of the Thing. Reed & Sue were out trying to live as private suburbanites in New Jersey. Johnny was married to the Thing's former girlfriend Alicia Masters. Crystal was a former love interest of Johnny's. If this sounds really soap opera-ish to you you'd be right. A weird experiment with the team lineup that was soon forgotten.
If I'm not mistaken, this was also the period of time where Thing's mutation got really advanced-hence the extremely spiky looking face-and the Ms. Marvel pictured here and described in the prior post was also known as She-Thing: pretty much what you'd expect from a character named She-Thing (just with the same frame, physical appearance, and no hair and a suit for keeping the boulders from being seen).
I love coming across vaguely obscure Marvel trivia.
I always remember getting muscle men as a kid, they came in a clear container that looked like an old bin...

Not sure why people pay to get a box of disappointment in the mail every month. Hahahaha
Sometimes, disappointment is better than nothing.
But paying for the disappointment? You would be better of giving that 20 bucks to charity, or to your neighbors cat.
@@brajuhani or a cheap hooker, that box will have all kinds of fun surprises
Bottom of the barrel clearance tat. Crate companies have got a good thing going for themselves XD.
I had that Airwolf! It was a small gas engine powered model that just flew around uncontrolled for a bit.
TOXIC COMIC , damn that brings back memories ...
19:56 - That box is designed to look like the PSX/Playstation which was released on 3 December 1994 in Japan, and 23 September 1995 in Europe. Maybe Stuart is mixing it up with the PS2?
I must be really out of touch with popular anime because everything in that anime box was a mystery to me
One Punch Man, Hellsing and Tiger & Bunny are great.
Johnny Joestar
your username and profile pic suggest your tastes are far above most popular stuff
Shocked you don't know of One Punch Man, the rest was pretty hard to tell what it was IMO, with the exception of Hellsing.
What the hell is King of Heroes? Doesn't look like anything Fate related.
DERPUSLORD Yeah, jojo is honestly the only anime I really keep up with haha
Probably more than just popular anime since most of those have been out for years. Owari no Seraph(the green guy on the t-shirt) is a shitty shonen for sure, but Hellsing(on the wristband), Devil Is a Part-Timer(the other guy on the shirt and the wallet), Tiger and Bunny(blonde girl keychain), and One Punch Man(funko pop) are all really good. Hellsing being over 20 years old, and the most recent being Owari No Seraph which is 6 years old. If you really haven't heard of One Punch Man or Hellsing then you probably don't watch much anime at all.
Never seen Ashens so excited before, this made my day. The Toxic comic looks like something that the movie "Heavy Metal" spawned from.
I can't believe the highlight of my day is watching a grown man playing with some weeb crap, but it is.
Nice to see Ashens actually excited about something that comes in a blind box.
22:31 - Damnit, I just got back from Finland! Should have warned me beforehand! 😭😭😭
@27:45
You know, this is why I keep watching your stuff Ashens, because you knew that I knew that there was a kids magazine called "Toxic" that exists at the moment and as soon as you mentioned it I thought, "Oh maybe this is the first issue of that magazine!" only for you to answer my question immediately.
God tier dude.
So Lootbox is just actual garbage at this point, eh? Every single item in there would go straight in the bin.
Since many of them are subscription, perhaps the idea was to front-load with the good stuff to get people subscribing then take more profits later. Some of this stuff looks like someone just went around their local boot sale.
It's a sad day indeed when The inflatable crown seems downright high quality compared to the garbage in lootcrates now.
Toxic Comics were a couple of years before my time so I had absolutely no idea they existed...
Yet hearing Stuart get so excited about them made me get stupidly excited.
Have you ever donated the entire loot crate and its contents to a charity shop?
JPaul C He sells the stuff on eBay I'm 90% sure
He burns them first though.
And if he did donate the entire loot crate...
Did the charity shop make him take it back?
Charity shops don't accept piles of shit.
That Juggernaut bit had me dyin! 😂 I love that British goodness
What a load of shit in that first Loot crate. I'd be so disappointed if I received that! I used to think about buying it for a one off because there's sometimes some good items, however after that I know it's defiantly not worth the risk for £25. They claim that each crate has £50 worth of stuff, well that's a blatant lie unless the price of shit plastic frames that look like a Burger King kids meal toy for the 90's and tacky freebie fridge magnets have sky rocketed since I last checked.
xXMinniNinJaXx I imagine they figure $20 a t-shirt, which look like the Marvel/pop culture graphic tees that go on sale at Target for $8.00, $6.00 for the BK kids meal picture frame, and $4.00 for the Subway kids meal TMNT magnets.
They go off of MSRP, so their $50 is actually $25-$30, which is what it costs pretty much.
Ashens, thank you so much for the Trash Bag Bunch information! I remember taking some on my school trip to France and my friend threw them into the sea. I have never been able to find them, but now I can buy them all from eBay! Take that Aaron Jeffries, YOU get in the sea!
I'm glad at how excited you were when you got the toxic comic
Edit: you should do a video on the toxic comics as a whole
I got my Playstation sometime in the mid-to-late 90's, man. They are well 90's.
It's OK Stuart, I like the muscle figure video, don't worry!
-Your friend, Stuart
The Accident Man was made, it was released on DVD in the UK back in April.
Don't know why an Ashens video always makes me feel better but I'm glad for them. ☺
I'm super happy toy box is back
Kevin O'Neill is a bloody genius. He's the one from 2000AD (Nemesis The Warlock was brilliant) , yeah, but, nowadays, i would say he's probably best remembered for his work with Alan Moore on The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The pair of them announced they were retiring a few weeks ago, by the way.
He also collaborated to the very strange magazine Moore created a few years ago, Dodgem Logic, with people like Graham Linehan, Cory Doctororw, Josie Long and Melinda Gebbie.
Bill and Ted 3 was confirmed and unconfirmed about 20 times in the last week or two.
The Poke Rap did not fail me as I recognized all those Pokemon.
Marshal Law. Tasked with tracking down super heroes, whom he despised. They usually end up dead, via beautifully rendered, but extraordinarily graphic violence. He made Judge Dredd look like a soft twat. Marshal Law's usual quote: "I hunt super heroes - haven't found any yet..." The other great character in Toxic, was 'Accident Man'. An assassin who made all his kills look like everyday accidents, slips, falls, overdoses, autodefenestrations, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if this sort of killer actually existed.
A more realistic version would be Agent 47. He does pretty much the same things.
When someone can be found dead inside a padlocked bag and the police say "It was probably an accident", it's probably easier just to engage a little corruption instead of going to all that trouble.
I have long had a sneaking suspicion that Dr. David Kelly had an unfortunate meeting with an 'Accident Man'.
Ooh, a vintage Boba Fett figure? The hose from Toy Galaxy would love to get that in the mail...
The PlayStation didn't come out here until 2000!?
My sister had one in 1996. What are you on about?
Mark Upcraft your sister is lying, it was a cardboard box painted gray and filled with bees to make a buzzing sound when kicked, it was all a joke mark aimed at you your entire family were mocking you, they turned on a secret VCR hidden behind the TV to make you think it was real gameplay, your life is a lie
Not a huge fan of Funko either, but the Sauron one I got and it looks pretty cool.
Tiger & Bunny is an awesome super hero anime. Tiger is a middle aged hero and Bunny is a younger hero who ends up his partner. The one on the luggage tag is Blue Rose in her civilian clothes.
It also has a gender queer hero by the name of Fire Emblem, and the movie sequel shows off a lot of his back story.
I recall the Playstation being out in the 90s (European release was 1995, apparently). Also, the Toy Box site says it's actually a 90s/2000s, so it's likely you're getting a mix of the two.
The OG playstation was released in Sep 1995 in Europe. I think he's confusing the release date's for it and the OG Xbox.
2 T Shirts?!
This must be the work of an enemy stand!
Is that a jo...... *To be continued* (Roundabout Plays)
I love the Kinnikuman vids. The alien ones were a riot!!
An Ashens video longer than 10 minutes, this makes me happy!! Plus I love the M.U.S.C.L.E videos that you do.
The Detect Magic drawing from the Dragon Quest card game is also the cover for the Dungeon Master's Guide of the second edition of AD&D. Man, seeing this brought back memories !
Just because I keep a broom handle in the downstairs toilet to poke big turds round the U bend doesn't make me a bad person. And no, that isn't a picture of Winston Sillcott above my mantlepiece.
Those Dragon Quest cards were from a basic/beginners D&D set from the 90s. They had cards for characters, monsters, spells, traps etc. instead of a big rule book.
The original boxy PSX came out in the Europe in 1995, one year after the Japanese release. You're probably thinking of the PS One slimline version release from ~2000.
"It's Piers Morgan!" Steady on mate, you nearly gave me a heart attack.
2000 for the OG Playstation Stu? I'm guessing you meant the PS2.
Mousey Housewife actually OG playstation stu was a rapper who was on top of the pops in 1980, he tripped over a wire and fell into the crowd electrocuting himself and the entire audience due to the neon lit jacket he wore on stage. The PlayStation was released on the 20th anniversary of that tragic event as a tribute to one of Sony musics most profitable one hit wonders.
Ambling action cracked me up
Pop vinyl’s are a plague
Dude I see you and your father sexual profile pick everywhere. And yes funkos are quite annoying.
20:30 xD why am I laughing so hard?
Lootcrate is dire
So what else is new?
The Hellsing wristband actually looks quite cool :) I say that as a fan of the anime btw, obviously if you have no idea what it is or it isnt up your street then it won't appeal to you :P
Toy Box link is Loot Crate, you almost made me commit a really big mistake.
Hopefully he sees this and fixes before anyone else makes a tragic mistake
Instead of making a big mistake if it was the correct link. Cmon dude. Wake up. It's ALL trash!
@@morkusmorkus6040 😂😂😂 This is why we should all be patient and watch Ashens open them and then explain how worried he is about the company
10:54 "Oh look, crisps!"
_Memories of my childhood come rushing back to me_
I have a feeling Ashens would like Hellsing...
Looks like some actually pretty awesome artwork and creativity in that Toxic comic.
You know who would want a nipple scrapped Boba Fett, Toy Galaxy! they could add it to the Boba Set
Cordell Dawhare I was thinking the exact same thing.
The original grey PlayStation was released in 1995, it was the re-designed white PSOne that was released in 2000.
As much as I absolutely enjoy pop figures, I completely agree with everything Ashton says about them. But here's the thing they're still funny, I like them a lot, but he still right about everything., but he's still right about everything he says.
Gabe The Samurai your plastic tat will be choking a baby seal to death in a few years time, think about that before you buy them, beaches covered in funko pop figures big eyed fluffy seals coughing up blood, the sadness and pain in their eyes, they are crying as they die in agony, Gabe think about that, do you ever think about that Gabe?
Gabe The Samurai Why would anyone blow you? Your comment is incoherent and you got instantly defensive despite Sun actually being right. The shape of Pops can cause alot of problems if they are eaten by sea creatures. I would continue explaining, but you don’t seem worth it.
@@ghoultooth you guys seem to fail to realize that there's a theme called recycling that people do on a daily basis. That is why you can blow me, you're preaching us and needed to fulfill your self-righteous save the whales quota while you do the exact same thing and your house in different ways makes you a hypocrite.
Your cellphone has plastic in it, all of your video game systems and televisions have plastic in them, the bottles you use for drinking and shampoo have plastic in them. There is not one item in your house that you can say without 100% certainty that does not have plastic in it.
the difference is that all of those things you just mentioned have a purpose for their existence.
@@Shpoovy and bringing someone happiness is not serving a purpose?
The playstation definitely came out in the states in the 90s. I got it for my 9th birthday.
...You would have been better off getting an actual akibento, which is a portable meal in a box.
One Horse in the West looks like it was drawn by Simon Bisley of Batman and Judge Dredd crossover Judgement on Gotham fame. He also drew Slaine the Horned God which is brilliant
Those Akibento box is pathetic, it's just a bunch of random crap you could find in Hot Topic.
Whereas the Loot Crate was pure quality....bahahaha
Both are crap but Akibeno is even worse, you can get cheap high quality goods from Japan but they've clearly made their own (low quality versions) to avoid paying any licencing.
the film accident man is already out, it's good fun!
The Nostalgia Box is half decent, has some interesting items for people who actually lived through the 80's & not simply pandering to the pop culture nostalgia nerds. Also, I can't understand why anyone would want Funko Pops when superior Nendroids are available.
Squats! Space dwarves ! They got discontinued early on so there’s a big fan base that collect what they can related to them!
*goes to write fanfiction*
Holy hell...i just got done reading that first issue of Toxic! for the first time and it is awesome. Gonna have to read the rest of those in the coming weeks. Thanks Ashens and Toy Box!
you haven't burn't anything in a while. maybe you could just set fire to an entire loot crate instead of reviewing the contents.
Yusss love me some of your subscription box videos! Good ol’Lootcrate ;)
Lootcrate = bin filler.
...and I was beginning to think it was only me who remembered 'Toxic!', much less actually bought it back in the day!
Impressively Stuart even references/knows what 'The Driver' was all about too. That strip blew my highly impressionable 12 year old mind back in the day, especially as I was then more accustomed to the likes of The Beano than anything!
'Toxic!' was pure, unadulterated (and very British) cynicism. Loved it. :)
Onnnnnneeeeeee puuuuuuunnnnnnnnncccccchhhh
Stuart, I'm fairly certain the PlayStation was released way before 2000 in the UK. You're thinking of the PS one, the smaller white model.
Don't let your channel go Cause you doing a movieLess people are intrested in the movie than the channel
