Safe healthy stretching is so important! Rushing, skipping sizes, using incorrect tools or wearing low quality jewelry can all cause blowouts and permanent scarring which can impact your ability to stretch safely.

I was definitely aware of 1g or 7mm but really didn’t get annoyed by gauge until I got to when I had to go by fractional inches, I’m so happy reputable manufacturers are going by 1mm or 0.5mm increments now and wish this was available when I was a teen. My ears are pretty screwed up now because of it.
Thank you Lynne for this info. My jaw dropped when you broke down the Guage charts. No wonder I struggled with stretching when I got started for this reason. All that went away when I discovered borosilicate glass with the 'in between' sizing.
Love your content.
all the ear stretching content is so helpful since i just started stretching !! thank you for this i def wouldnt have done this so safely if it werent for your tiktok !💖💖
I'm sooo glad this is addressed. I've had many conversations around this exact thing when I stretched my septum.
i love the ear stretching content! my favourite youtuber right here :))
Thanks for the history! Takes me back to hooking up my audio system in my car! 😅 Hope to gauge soon!! 🤙🏾
Wish I could have seen this before my stretch… just went for 0 to 00 about 20 mins ago but the burnings going away finally 🤦🏻♀️ I appreciate the help and you’re video thank you 😊 🙏
I was stuck at 2 gauge for more than a year because the 2mm jump to 0 gauge was just too big. finally ended up getting 7mm and 9mm in between size plugs from urban body jewelery and with those I got to my goal size of 00 or 10 mm really easily so I can attest to this!
Millimetres is the best unit to stretch in 😀
The Amazon basics callipers are spot on, I’m currently at 3mm in both ears
i love all of the ear stretching content and will definitly be chekcking out the blog post :)
It's not the system of measurment, it is the increments, when my ears were below 20mm going up 2mm was easy as well, but the increases in circumference with each jump are getting larger with each 2mm jump, that is why I need to tape at the size I am at now, I did find a 34, 35 and 36 and even those jumps pinched a little- not painful but starting to become less easy.
I found a place that does half mm increments, that is a godsend for my cartilage piercing that was stuck at 8mm for a long time because going to 10mm was excruciating, had to downsize multiple times because of the swelling, even 9mm was unpleasant. I now have my flat at 11 and should be able to get 11.5 in soon, trying to reach around 14mm, maybe 15 on that piercing, the trouble is the availability of small increments more than the gauge system, though I think gauges and inches are confusing and inconsistent, which when altering your body is a problem in itself. I don't want to deal with incinsistent spacing in the gauge system or 1/4s, 1/8s and 1/16ths of an inch.
It gets worse at sizes near an inch too- many places jump from 22mm to 25mm to 28mm and it repeats with every size ending in a 5, then over 30 you struggle to find certain sizes at all, never mind finding places helpful enough to go mm by mm, with ear stretching being a staple of body modification, you'd think that it'd be easier. Obviously I don't expect ornate pieces in weird sizes, but to have basic plugs in those inbetween sizes would really help make things easier!
The worst thing is that lengths are often standard across all brands, if your lobes are thicker or, like me, you are stretching a thick ridge on your ear, this is absolutely the worst, even having a supplier that sells longer plugs it is hit or miss as the length usually isn't listed, finding plugs that is 2 or 3mm longer than standard AND also offer half millimeter increments in diameter was a problem that was hard to solve in itself, but I'm in the minority that would actually want to stretch a thick piece of cartilage!
I’ve need sizing up in .5 mm from body art forms
this was the most helpful video, omg
I’m curious about how different skin conditions affect piercing and stretching! I saw a tiktok that showed a monthly progression of stretching their ears and they went very fast, but they had EDS so they were naturally more stretchy. Is that safe?
Are there any multi size kits you would recommend? I'd rather buy all the sizes I want to grow into at once rather than purchase one at a time each time I want to upsize... I have the attention span of a flea and would forget to purchase the next round. 😂
Wow holy shit….. everything makes so much more sense now lol srsly thank YOU
I already on six G now i already had my ears pierced.
A question. Can we stretch ear with the spirals? Ofc gradually. Couldn't find any content with stretching with spiral tunnels
I don’t suggest it. They end up functioning like tapers and can cause tears, blowouts, and thin spots when used to stretch
@@Lynn_Loheide ah thanks 🙏🏽
I am pretty sure 10mm is 00g..
According to your charts, stretching from 0g to 00g is stretching from 8mm to 9mm. I believe this is incorrect, most 00g plugs are 10mm and its usually generally recognized that the difference between 0 and 00 is a 2mm different (8mm to 10mm) and i have yet to see an earring labeling 000g. I think what you are saying makes complete sense otherwise though. But i think the charts are slightly misleading. I could be mistaken though, i am definitely not an expert like yourself. Just trying to give me 2 cents. 😅
Actually it depends on the company! 00g is widely sold as both 9mm and 10mm from different brands. I would say I see it pretty equally as both sizes. That’s why it’s SO important to measure your plugs yourself and ensure you are using 1mm increments.
@Lynn_Loheide I agree with the 1mm increments. But I have yet to see a 00g be 9mm. They are all 10mm. I bought the in-between size of 9mm because my 0g was 8mm and the 00 was 10mm.
I'm not saying you're wrong, but I must live in a whole different reality because in my reality, 10mm is a 00g. And a 9mm is the in between size of 0 and 00.
Although I just Google it to be sure I'm not completely wrong and I found the charts you referenced. But that is the only thing I found to confirm what you are saying. While I found much much jewelery from a quick Google search that confirm that 00g =10mm. So I guess what we really can say is the standard of a few companies is off. But most consider 10mm to be 00g.
@Lynn_Loheide if you look up any gauge wheel that shows both gauge and MM measurements, they ALL show that 00g is equal to 10mm.
Thanks for the reply, tho! I just wanted to correct a mistake you made on a really common size that lots of people consider a goal size. (00g). You have a lot of influence, and I love your videos and have used a ton of info that you have shared.
Really, it's the companies fault. They should all switch to MM and be done with it. It makes way more sense than the Guage size.
@@MegaBlackLobster unfortunately it seems you are encountering the exact issue that’s why I made this chart and this video. Your so right- many low quality companies are using 10mm as 00g! But I would encourage you to look at glasswear studios- gorilla glass- anatometal- body circle- industrial strength- etc. where 00g is 9mm.
Just because there’s a large influx in low quality and unsafe companies using off sizing doesn’t mean we as an industry should just capitulate to a measurement that often leads to skipping sizes, blowouts, and tears. 00g was originally and still is 9mm with quality manufacturers. No matter how many unsafe companies try to cut corners and do it as 10mm.
@Lynn_Loheide so what you're saying is there is no in between size from 0g to 00g with "quality" manufacturers?
I will admit, I don't own any of those brands you listed. Mine are all from Amazon. I feel like they're high-quality materials still though. Mostly glass I think. And I've been using acrylic tapers to stretch. My ears have 0 sensitivities and heal great on acrylic 😅
I feel like if you can break the rules with good results then why not? Lol
How did u strech
With natural stretching!
