    I always knew that Duke should have a Gold Deagle, the fact they he had a Goldish 1911 always seemed abit weird to me, then he also had what appears to be the same style Deagle in Manhattan Project felt like it connected the dots perfectly.
    Holding a .50 Cal Deagle with one hand and the fucking sweet stylish reload is just pure badass.

      If only the view model had been adjusted for 16x9, and wasn't cut off.. at least I'm pretty damn sure that's exactly what that is, just like the original Half-Life nowadays.. I posted more detail above just for anybody curious or gifted with skills to follow a view model rant LOL.. but it's it's actually super common when games are converted from 4x3 to 16x9, a lot of people catch the fov but they don't catch the view model part, and a lot of games usually scale with but.. it's more of a modern thing, unless you know your ultra modern where you scale down for The wider the screen LOL but that's a whole almost ideological issue at that point.. this is more just technical... Which especially a game in development is going to have that probably loose so they can move it around a lot.. if you can't find any viewmodel commands in the console which again that would be surprising given it's a Dev build LOL, if you can't.. try switching it to 4x3 and if suddenly you see twice the gun and the arms and you know it all suddenly makes kind of sense.. that would be why LOL.. it's kind of aggravating how many people have videos of the original half-life in 16 by 9 where those gorgeous view model and weapon animations are completely cut in half and people just think that's how it's supposed to be..
      Unlike Half-Life 2 the original half-life was pretty much one of the closest games to actually looking like you were holding the weapon that mechanically made no sense LOL.. but it looked like you were holding it, pretty much better than most modern games nowadays.. kind of sad how they did the sequel in that regard where didn't even comprehend how you were holding it.. like actually just not even holding it badly just how was this being held LOL...
      We would see a lot of that trash until the first iterations of first person awareness would start rolling out because it was the third person model so the view model was just kind of a camera placement situation, then when they did the separation between the model and the arms to avoid the thief third person issues.. you saw it come right back sadly, especially with the shrinking of the fov as game developers got utterly ridiculous in saving the most unimportant tiny bits of performance LOL completely ignoring the larger picture usually, literally LOL... Why I have such respect for machine games, they took that original riddick thief style third person model, and got it better and better to the point where Wolfenstein 2 uses a full third person awareness first person model and plays like the proper movement shooter immersive Sim hybrid that it is.. they ditched it for the first reboot, but the fact that they were able to bring it back and everybody said it controlled amazingly by comparison to the complaints with Reddick and the darkness and syndicate and whatnot, that's actually kind of a hell of an accomplishment for something they've been trying to work on for so long.. but anyhow..
      Hopefully the trends change from games like outer worlds and OverWatch, and are more like New Colossus and the upcoming system shock remake and like the original half-life :-) I would love to see what this one looks like if that is indeed what the issue is, with the proper ratio given how much effort they put into everything else.. that'd be kind of kind of dead be kind of lame if this was like what they were happy with LOL but I highly doubt it given that 16x9 was, I mean shit 16x10 was a completely unobtainium professional grade color correction monitor back then for film.. so like I said check the view model in the console if you get your hands on it.

      eh, I prefer DNF 2011 Shrinker and Freezethrower cuz they look more like ones from DN3D

      I always hated the tripple barrel design of the ripper. I was looking forward to Duke having a decent assault rifle, but all they did was add a 30 round clip reloading mechanic to an already flawed design.

      @@hanchiman What the fuck do I have to do with this 😂? That's like a comeback from a 10 y/o for fuck's sake. Check out MGS2 it's from 2001 also. Soldier of fortune 2 from 2002 and then Farcry 2003. This game was supposed to be released in 1999 and it used the first Unreal engine which was heavily outdated.

      Yeah it looks great. A RadTools bink video basically of a cool animation done in whatever software existed back then, capable of doing this. Like Maxon Cinema, Adobe After Effects, etc.

    The weapons have a lot of punch and the shooting feels pretty solid overall. I can't imagine what will be come up with in the coming years within the Unreal/Duke community.

    One thing to notice is how they have taken pictures of the weapons, in a specular looking way. Shiny.
    Back then there was no specular or bump mapping. Clever 3D Realms!

    I love flamethrowers that let me actually see the actual fire in the game that I'm shooting. This is kind of a hard thing to write in a sentence but when games make it show a "graphically better" effect that doesn't match the actual hitboxes I can always tell.

    I saw someone do an in depth look at this DNF build and it is actually very impresive what the devs managed to achieve. Of course that it isn't finished, but some details for example are really good, like the realistic shattering of glass on certain levels. Obviously the glass is not super detailed or anything, but it reacts almost the same way real life glass does when shot/ kicked. There were also a few mechanics which didn't make the cut in the end, but it shows that more love and detail has been put in the game than what we got as the end product.
    One more thing, apparenly there is a 2002 build of DNF as well, which is the more complete version of this one (90% complete to be exact). So there is hope that someone finds it and let the modders finish the 10%.

    Ever since I saw the trailer on Angry Joe's review all those years ago I really wanted to see this build for so long, Seeing every single nook and cranny in the old trailer to imagine what could have been, the mock ups in Duke 3D mods were fin but it wasn't the same as the trailers. The 2020s have been such a massive treasure trove of leaks, comparing the final games to what was scrapped. Sure I feel bad for the companies that were breached but damn, this is like a dream that I didn't think it would be found playable after all these years. This is a lot more satisfying than most modern games that are released unfinished, buggy or massively disappointing.

      Deus ex did the same thing in 2000. Tomb raider 4 had different ammo types for crossbow and shotgun in what, 1999? Resident evil even let you craft different ammo types. It's clear you don't know what you're talking about 🙂

      also system shock 2 from 1999 hase also diffren types of ammo. anti person, normal and ap round for pistole and smg. and 5 diffrent grenedes. ( standard, burns, landmine, emp, disrupter for the greneade launcher)
      and even the first Systemshock have for some guns 2 diffren ammotypes...

    The models still look pretty solid. The best thing is the sound, that punchy and strong sound really helps to sell that you're a one man army. To think we wouldn't start to get this type of sound for weapons until Wolfenstein The New Order, and see it further refined with Doom 2016 and Eternal.

    If you really think about it. Someone decided at one point in DNF's long development cycle A) Let's get rid of most of these new weapons and B) LETS ONLY ALLOW DUKE TO CARRY 2 WEAPONS (I know you can do 4 with an update). I know it was probably done because of consoles but this 2001 build had consoles in mind as well. If you load up the !character_Zoo map (dont know the exact name but its roughly that) you can listen to audio clips. And one of the audio clips talks about an X button and a Circle button. Even around 2006 or so they still had a drop down menu for the weapons. I played DNF 2011 the other day and it was one of the things that drove me crazy about it. That and the pipebomb was bound to like 3 or 4 or some number key.

    Lead game designer was clearly a perfectionist. The game he wanted would have required far more man power in order to still finish on time and be a relevant and innovative product.The best features were the shrapnel and particle fx. Something most games do not do right.

    I always dreaming of the day when a "Duke Nukem Forever Collection" would pop up on a store page on one day. I would be shocked. Playing every DNF-Version finished and as Bonus every build. It's just a dream.

      The Braingun was actually this version of the Shrinker.
      I dunno how it was relevant though.
      I swear I thought that braingunwas had a piece of an Octobrain's brain and used it as weapon, since the projectile looks the same, but just dunno how it's suppose to be the shrinker.

      Not just that.
      Bioshock style mini-puzzles, before Bioshock fucking came out, with Duke's actual hand.
      Pissing on command before Postal 2.
      The Thing and Parasite references far before Resident Evil 4.
      Duke could of been the first character modeled in 3D to have a kicking foot animation for actual proper interactions, kicking through glass, doors, enemies.
      Like you said, so much potential just thrown away.
      Such an injustice.

    You forgot a fair few things (more flamethrower anims such as draw animation and explosion feature on gas type when gas is fired on, railgun reload, radiation on tac nukes, gunshots on riot shield, shrinkray altfire feature, secret alternate and unused shrinkray)

      Yes the gas being useful. One cool weapon mechanic later seen in Unreal 2: The Awakening. Like so many others stuff. DNF2001 was so ahead of it's time.

    Did you make sure to account for the 4x3 conversion for the view model.. a lot of games, especially unreal engine if they let you change the fov to match the aspect ratio, the same courtesy usually isn't extended to the view model.. this is how a lot of videos in the modern age end up having half of half-life's view model cut off... Whereas with 4x3 you can see the full animations in the hands etc*. At this point I just assume if the view model looks strange from an older title before the widescreen aspect ratio became common, it's got its view model cut off either by.. features I guess.. like modern unreal titles try to default too.. were you not actually getting a wider aspect ratio, rather a tinier one because... Tim...? Or it's just the view model itself that's been cut off, not having been translated with the fov.. which really wouldn't surprise me with this thing being an engine that you have to compile and whatnot.. that would be a very much Dev console thing and it usually is anyways, and it would definitely be something they would be adjusting anyways on account of the interactions and whatnot.
    But yeah first time I saw this build I was just immediately it was like oh yeah that that view model has been cut in half.. I mean it could just suck LOL, but more than likely it's been cut in half cuz that's that's pretty much what that looks like..
    I don't know what the console commands are for this but I do know they're pretty essential from the sound of it, check it out and see if suddenly either it looks like he's actually holding the gun in 4x3 or if changing the view model fov to something higher proportionate to the fov of the 16x9 aspect ratio compared to 90 which I think is like 105 or 110 usually, it's somewhere between 100 and 110 and everybody has a different number.. valve used to say 105, now valve has changed it to 100, from 90.. they used to be the authority on this LOL.. which who knows with valve..
    A lot of things in unreal are almost always locked down so that wouldn't surprise me either but considering that this is a build I would assume nothing is locked down, but probably defaults to trash, that's just how it usually is actually even with the modern unreal engine.. but back then it was pretty bad cuz they were developing it and had almost no documentation at the time for developers it was complicated situation for a lot of the people that switched to it, a pretty common problem even today but a huge problem back then for a lot of developers..
    Regardless though, it's a sad sad thing that I see a lot of games that were designed in 4x3 with the 90 fov... It's not the f o v I think that really hurts the modern impression, but the view model cut off more than anything.. and just like first looks at this are like I said that that thing looks cut in half, now most people won't give a shit and don't give a shit about the view model it seems at all, something I never really understood.. but in a weapon showcase I figured you might so, just throwing that one out there if you were wondering why they kind of trash or just strange or given flashbacks from GoldenEye 64..
    *( which were really cool actually I'm really sad to see people don't even notice, or don't know what to do about it etc.. I think the original Half-Life had some of the best view model placement of its era and God almost a universe better than the weird thing that they did with the second one.. and then doubled down on a few years later making it worse LOL... Ironically they also pioneered widescreen aspect ratios and this was a feature seeing more on the sides, seeing more of the view model etc.. this was before they locked it down in the engine to the 4x3 ratio.. and then the view model with it for some reason.. which I really never got, but then they undid a lot of that just recently I guess raising the cap to 100...
    Still, I probably would just assume they were weak sauce like a lot of modern day view models LOL.. but half-life's are burned into my brain, especially given the contrast between the first one and the second one going from damn near perfect to how the fuck is this guy holding these things, is that why he wears such thick glasses maybe so he doesn't get his eye popped out LOL.. but yeah, it's too bad Half-Life source was a disaster because that was one of the features, proper widescreen aspect ratio and the view model was all set up and everything for you.. )

    There’s also another secret “Weapon” sorta on the last level secret stage there is a turrent that you can use in the building north west from spawn it has a sequence of enemies there’s also the secret flying enemies just below that in the sewers

    The Final version had some pretty good stuff, honestly. However. This is preferable to DN 3D rehashed selection with modern Cod weapon and ammo capacity. Not to mention ammo variants, that's a plus.
