Hey Daz, great to see you at my favourite hotel -- April Suites. I spent 3 weeks there in July/August. I stay there every year and it keeps the cost of my trip down a lot. I have been going there for many years. A hidden gem! Quiet and discreet. Away from the craziness. But easy walking distance to Soi 6, Beach Road, Terminal 21 and the Soi 7 and 8 bar streets. The little food stand on the porch of the house opposite does simple Thai meals for breakfast and lunch for 70-80 Baht. The fitness toom was closed for renovations then too. So they were directing guests to the August Suites fitness room, which you showed. There's an alleyway which links the two hotels with a 1-2 minute walk (you enter via the side of August Suites rather than the main entrance) and avoids going back onto the street.
Good review mate. The Basaya Beach Hotel used to be in mho an old veteran's hospital for americans (Vietnam war, u know...). So it's really old, but some blocks are renovated and the garden with the pool is nice. Was there in 2019, was just good. Don't expect new high end but has great charm. Also good location.
I used to stay at the Basaya Beach Hotel when I was a newbie back in the day. I found the upstair rooms to have rather thin walls, especially with the interlinking doors. The ground level rooms were much better, but quite expensive by comparison.
Thanks for another informative vlog. The older hotels built back in the 70s used the grounds to assist in keeping the area quiet and made you feel like you were away from the hustle and bustle
The first hotel I stayed in Pattaya was Basaya Beach in 1987. It was called Nipa Lodge back then. Standard rooms still have the same headboards as back then. I still love the place, saying there in a couple of weeks and Opey de Place.
Looks like you struck another un enthusiastic receptionist at the second hotel Daz! He, well I think it's a he should be working at the Department Of Motor Registry! The third hotel looks absolutely fantastic!!!
I’ve stayed at August suits about 6 X times , i’ve always had the room overlooking the pool side. Location is about a two minute walk away from Soi 7 Except the last year that they were doing building works next door with a pile driver going non-stop all day , I’m assuming that must be coming to an end soon . It must be one of the cleanest hotels I’ve ever stayed at. They’ve got staff continually polishing that bloody lobby floor and gym area all day long. 😂
@@Stephen-Steven-Stephens yes as he’s walking up the driveway to then turn into the main doors, if you kept on going up that driveway around the right there’s a ramp and there’s a huge underground car park !
August Suites is ruined by the noise and dust from the adjacent construction. Staff tell me another year or so until work finished. The construction starts at 0800 hours and that proper woke me up. Get a room at back to avoid it, noting that there is a bar on the street at the back that is really loud until 0200 hours. Still a good hotel.
@@BushmanUKoriginal it’s like that bloody construction is never ending. I was there November last year , got woken up with pile driving. I return June this year and it’s like they did nothing and the pile driving was still going. For God sake that building site must be finished soon ! But apart from that I find it a fantastic hotel
@@Tex_Symbol69 I was there about the same time as you. I asked the reception staff how long the construction will take - they said 2 years. Yet still its fully booked at high season. Im back very soon and decided not to book it cos of the noise. LK Metro much quieter in the mornings!
I really like hotels with gardens, a big pool I can swim in properly and big rooms. Very common in the Mediterranean, but hard to find in Pattaya - especially if you want modern, as most people do. The first one has some refurbished rooms which looked nice, but the lobby and other common areas are very dated. I tried the Amber Hotel which is very modern throughout, has a nice garden and is just off Soi Buakhao. But the property’s crammed into a site which is too small and the rooms/balconies are also small in order to make it work commercially. I think it’s probably impossible to find exactly what you want for the price you want. Compromises are inevitable somewhere - just as they are with most things.
None of the hotels were bad. The first one was nostalgic with the old drive up lobby entrance back when they were called motels. Reminds me when I drove some of the old Route 66 in USA a couple of years ago I stayed in some of the old motels soaking in some of the nostalgic history.
I stayed August Suites back in 2018. It had a nice location. Pool was crowded with kids and families. Pool chairs were just solid wood no cushion. room bed had no linen! I had booked for one week and paid in advance but left after one night and demanded a refund for the remaining nights which they begrudgingly gave. Not worth the price. Maybe they give better discount now or book with agoda if you trust that and get a room unseen
From August suits lobby you can actually cut through to April suites via back laneway directly from lobby to lobby without going down and around on the street. I have discovered that April and March suits are the same price or sometimes more expensive , but August is a more superior hotel in quality and room size
Great hotel video update, Daz! Thank you 🙏 How far in advance would you suggest a first timer book a room? I'm traveling to Thailand Oct 2025. All three would work, but the first one has that wonderful outdoor space ... love that.
Thanks for another great video but can I ask if you can ask for price for 1 month instead of just daily rates it normally make a big difference.? Cheers mate.
When there is breakfast offered, could you inquire about its contents. i.e. Does it have: eggs, breads, fruit, meats, etc? This would help determine if it's worth getting. Thanks
Both August and April Suites look decent I will consider them for next trip. Daz have you ever looked at Whisper Hotel? Between 2nd Rd and Soi Buakhao closer to S Pattaya Road
Very good to know. I first stayed in town in1986, and I forget the name (Orchid??) , but it was all low rise with lots of garden including an elephant and sooo cheap. I would rather have space and peace over modern, and anything to avoid the more antisocial visitors....
Hi Daz, I’ve been trying to find the video you did where you mentioned a pharmacy that most of the body builders use, unfortunately, I can’t find the video, is there any chance you can tell me the Pharmacy? I’m I’m coming out to Pattaya in two weeks time. Keep up the great work!
August Suites are sold out for at least half the days every week, it's not possible to book a full week. It looks like you can only book on Agoda through mid January, but again, there were no full weeks available. The price on Agoda was indeed a lot lower than the walk-up price.
You done the August and April suites you should have nipped up Soi 16 to March and May hotels There all one group and the March and May better for value
The old one is a classic, very niice, the renovated one, and near pool and king bed, very nice and your friends can bring a lady to room! LOL :) wink wink. I'll be staying in the March hotel in October 10th, that August one looks very nice! Thanks Daz for all your great videos, I'm stoked and boots on the ground soon for me!! She lights up, 2 ladies :) lol
Love your style Daz ! --- I'm 75 in the US and thinking of moving for my last days to Jomtien Thailand or Siem Reap Cambodia. Thailand requires health insurance & nobody has any average people that old can afford ? What do old expats do (?) or does the Thai Govt. do (?) when they can't afford it in their old age or can't get it ? Do they make you leave the county and deny your visa ? 🤔
Guys I know here who are in their 70s don't have health insurance so they keep about 500,000 baht in a bank for emergencies. If you do an " O " retirement visa inside Thailand, you don't need it.
Just a heads up, l Dont think the high season will be as hoped for by the Thai government this year either. I just saw an article here in Europe where places like Magaluf, Santa Ponça, Alcúdia and Cala d'Or in Majorca have had a decrease of more than 15% this summer and fall, and thats here in Europe. Other places in Spain are reporting the same. So thinking that Europeans will go to Thailand in droves this high season will not happen, l think the Thai tourist authorities will get a rude awakening! So l wish them good luck with the busloads of Chinese uncles and aunties that more often than not don't respect Thai culture or shows common decent behaviour when they're visiting Thailand ...
Restaurants and bars are in Majorca and other places are actually closing down, as tourists don't spend money as they used to post pandemic in 2022 and 2023...
I prefer the Basya Beach hotel it might be old but my God it really has got that quirky thing about it and not bad priced considering what you get for the hotel, I didn't even know that it was there I have walked past it so Many times I didn't know it's name I think I need new glasses 🤓 because I've been to Pattaya 16 times with 6 times in that area plus a friends bars is just around the corner A7 DJ which is staggering distance for me.🥴 What is it with the newish builds the rooms are like boxes, the balcony is so tiny you can't have 2 people on the balconies at the same time, swimming pools are tiny with hardly any sun loungers and staff are miserable ( my opinion) yet old builds are completely opposite especially with the staff you can have a laugh and joke with, I know which hotel I'll be looking for on my next trip but I'll be asking for ground floor if possible because of my disabilities I noticed disabled equipment in that ground floor room I can climb the stairs but it will kill me.
I did like the 70s hotel. The renovations are pretty nice, and the right thing to do. I read a lot of assumedly younger posters, cranking on that a hotel is old, but 'Old is Gold' to me. The new builds are cells, I'd go spare after a few days. I've stayed at April & March Hotels. Both nice and clean. April was ok, the gym was poor; it needs more than a lick of paint. I like March better, but I didn't get on with the beds. They have a thick over mat,, or 3! and it likes to hang on to you like quicksand, lol. The pool is nice there, and the gym is better maintained, and good enough.
