It's about time I post this. XD This is so long overdue. I've been wanting to do a name change for ages, and I thought as I try to make a fresh start to my channel, this could be my last video as WalkingMelonsAAA, and my first video as SpectroliteAAA. :)
WELP!... I hope it was worth it! I started this project ages ago, and as I was forced to pick it up and put it back down time and time again as larger studio work projects came into play (for things like indiegames or storyboarding for cartoons outside of youtube), the it became harder and harder to pick it back up each time. Every time I'd starting working on it, the project became heavier and heavier and it's completely defeated me, I guess you can say I had a 'bad time' HAHA... hah. XD but I hope you guys like this despite the lack of color. I really did enjoy working on it for the time that I did, and with me lacking the will to continue I think it's about time I put this project to rest and post it for you guys. I know the wait was long, and now you're receiving an unfinished project, but regardless I hope you enjoy it. Thank you guys for your patience.
So much work put into this project. I really wanted to try and squeeze in as many elements in the fight as I could, from the fake chance Sans gives you to be forgiven only to be dunked on if you fell for it, to the recalling all the memories from the past timelines being repeated over and over again with the scene of him also finding Papyrus' dust, the double slash at the end before he finally gets hit by frisk, etc. There were a few things I couldn't fit in, like him falling asleep for his special attack. :C and the beginning isn't really technically accurate because it's not as climactic as he gives you when you first start the fight, and that's simply because this project started out as a practice exercise, and not accuracy in the beginning, and that took up the intro and it just stuck haha.
I also just wanted to point out that I want to give HUGE shoutout to the original poses/Sans positions/shots in a few frames at 1:19 - 1:21 and a single frame at 1:36 in the video where I referenced an artist I really look up to. Their name is Min-Play on Tumblr, and I wanted to kind of incorporate a shout to them for some drawings of sans they did in the past, which you can find here. min-play.tumbl... They have such a way with form and flow and motion in their work! it's incredible! They haven't posted in a while but you can find them here. / min-play
Also wanted to give a special thanks to my friends Dani and Sierra. Back when I was planning on finishing this, they both did some small clean up work, and were my colorists. You don't see the colored frames in this video obviously, but they did put hours of their time back when the project was going to be colored before it tanked. So thank you guys for your hard work.
The animation is done in ToonBoom Harmony Essentials. The project is just shy of 4000 frames, reaching a number of 3942 frames in the animation. It is animated in 2 mostly, with it being animated in 3 during slow scenes, and 1 during some fast scenes. The Animation is animated in 24 FPS (frames per second)
All rights to the characters and the game Undertale Belong to Toby Fox, as with the original sound track of Megalovania, by Toby Fox. :)

i think it is "unique" because it just look like the battle in the game itself if you pay attention to sans' attacks, and the movements is really smooth in the entire animation.

So, clearly, I'm incredibly late to the Fandom. This animation is amazing and really captured the essence of what the genocide route is. The flashes of seeing all the important characters deaths was a fantastic (and heart wrenching) edition to the animation. You really made Chara seem feral and insane! Even the small gestures, like Sans jerking his head back or heart shaped shadows, add so much to the animation and overall mood to the piece.
You did an amazing job on this and I'm grateful you stuck with it and finished it.
Oh don't worry, I'm late to it too. But I'm definitely part of it now and it's awesome!

Having watched this and the Death By Glamour animatic, I love the subtle differences in appearance you give Frisk. They’re essentially the same character, but their expressions and general unkemptness in this animation make them much more unsettling

Yep that's my Undertale AU for ya. Except it's just Papyrus who dies first, and Gaster is like basically Sans and Papyrus's dad, and he gets super mad and starts beating the crap outta Sans, then time passes by and then Sans and the girl (I have not played Undertale yet therefore I don't know her name) fight and of course, Sans dies, my o.c. comes in and kills the girl, (my o.c. name is Midnight and she got lost one day when Sans was like, what, 10, and they have been friends ever since. And seeing Sans just die right in front of her aunt gonna be good thing) then everyone head up to the surface the end boom we done baby!

The choreography! The camera angles! The fluidity! The music sync! This is totally awesome!
I can't express how much i love this. This animation is so good, instead of doing some bones here and here you really made big and dangerous attacks in plus of the corridor being a bit destroyed like it should be in a fight, the camera movements and those moments were the animation is slow and super detailled are just so great without mentionning how good it's to see the animation improving ! For an unfishined project it's already more than a lot of people can do :)

I don't care if it's unfinished, this is a masterpiece and deserves all the love possible. It's beautiful and makes me appreciate Megalovania even more. I understand that as an artist you lose your passion for a project but what you have done is greatly appreciated and loved, thank you.

It was a nice animation, but it didn’t really portray anything other than the two characters fighting.
(I don’t really have any other way of putting it.)
It didn’t show the difficulty of the fight, it was more of a first try sort of thing, which doesn’t really make sense.
I liked the part where it showed the other characters being killed and sans’ sudden burst of power,
but that’s really it.

kudos to you for keeping all the lore and canon stuff in the animation, this was so clearly well done and I enjoyed every second of it! the part where sans finds papyrus' cape and remembers all the things frisk has done to hurt him here, gave me chills. I literally felt every emotion in that moment. well done!
The dodging and attack concepts are amazing, the music fits and the art and animation are perfectly done.

When the extent of the wounds is revealed, you can see sans is still worried about them, hence the look of concern followed by a fake smile. Even through his rage, he still has memories with you. 10/10

If you slow down when sans starts seeing timelines when pap’s scarf vanishes one scene is frisk being decapitated, one with frisk being stabbed in the stomach by bones and sans crying by their corpse, one with frisk being mauled by the gaster blaster and one with them on the floor with a bone in their mid-chest I think, presumably being dunked on after sparing sans

I didn't catch all the deaths of Frisk the first time. I was too focused on the other characters' deaths before that. Plus it was really quick. Very cool addition that I think quite a few people will miss

I love how you've captured Sans' carefree facade with every dodge he makes. Even unfinished, what we have is really damn good, and I can see--easily--why you got involved in bigger stuff. I don't think most people are going to see an abandoned project when they watch this. I sure as hell didn't.

A small detail I noticed is that even their shadows are souls/hearts! Even for sans and his gaster blaster!

Something i really like in this animation that sets it apart from a lot of others is the expressions. Sans isnt always pissed off, and is instead mostly casual throughout the first part. Frisk, while having the crazy smile thing other animations do, also has expressions such as being surprised.
In my opinion the project is done. It could be polished? Yes, but at that point, the core of the animation is the important and I love how it had been done. Good luck in other projects ^^
Technically, the animation is so close to done all she would need to do is commission someone to do the coloring
What i love of this animation and keeps me looking for it many times is that the canon parts are well keeped, not like most of other fangames or animations. I want to do an animation of this fight by myself in the future. I love this animation

FYI, the flashing quick bit shows the deaths of Toriel, Papyrus, Undyne, and Medaton, in that order, then what appears to be various scenes of Frisk dying from Sans in past versions of this fight.

For some reason,I like this part the most. Sans gives in everything he has into that one final stance. After this,he simply doesn't have any energy left. As the final reserves of his power leaves his now drained body.
We can see the effort he is making in not giving up. He still tries to muster up some energy in his arm,some power in his eyes.
Yet,his arm drops limp. His eyes lose the radiant glow. He simply can't do anything anymore. The skeleton who was once too lazy to use uppercase words,has now used up everything he had built up for one final stand.
Yet,he fails. The players powers finally overpower him. He knows his fate. He closes his eyes,remembering everyone he lost,and seeing the bleak future as the world loses it's last hope.
But he is too fatigued to think. He goes into a deep slumber. And with this,all of his powers go into a slumber as well. The player,filled with the desire to end him and the world,raise their weapon for the final blow.
The player charges,with the intention to end everything for once and for all. At the final moment. Sans teleports away. He still thinks he can make it,he still thinks he can save the world.
But fatigue gets the better of him,he doesn't teleport to a safe distance. At this moment,the pain of every being who was obliterated, the hopes and dreams that were destroyed, Unite. Something withn the world,senses the feeling of absolute despair in sans.
The long dormant spirit of Chara awakens. And with that,their,long dormant wish too,to end everything.
They take the control from the player. Sans doesn't even have the time to think before being destroyed. After a final act of mockery,he walks off.
He knows his end is imminent. As he disappears to dust,he can't help but foresee the end that lies ahead,of his and the world. He is filled with the coldest of all despair and the deepest of all sorrows.
His body disappears to dust.

I love how calm and dignified Sans remains during the entire fight. Even towards the end around the 2:17 mark, when Frisk/Chara is clearly getting the upper hand over him, he looks more like an older brother trying to swat away and then correct the annoying antics of a younger sibling than someone who is fighting desperately for his life. It drives home just how evil Chara's (and the player's) actions are. You're not just striking down some random monster. You're striking down someone who is practically family by this point, someone who just wants you to stop your rampage, and who you can at any point simply decide to walk away from and not try to fight anymore.

wow i never really acknowledged how evil the _player's_ actions are.
One thing that I think was incredibly done is that the animator not only includes the deaths of all his friends, but also the trauma of having to kill Frisk over and over again.

i've returned to this to say that this animation was one of the few things that tipped me to follow the career path of an animator
This animation made me like Sans more than the protagonist
You only encounter Sans during a genocide run so you can barely consider Frisk a protagonist
Technically, if you get to this point in the game, Sans is the protagonist and Frisk is the antagonist.
Jyrow The antagonist and protagonist are relative to the perspective of the player/main character. E.g in Kirby meta knight is considered the antagonist despite him not being a villain.

I saw this quite a while ago, but now that I have finally gotten around to playing Undertale and cleared the Genocide route as of a few hours ago, I decided to revisit this video and now have a greater appreciation for this animation, as if it wasn't amazing enough before then! Great job!

This is *incredible*. I honestly think the lack of color and “polish” enhances it somehow, like makes it feel intense and dynamic. Chara’s expressions are so good. Excellent work!

What do you mean unfinished? This is MILES beyond anything with color! The fact that only the most relevant things have color emphasizes the meaning behind them, it focuses people who might not have played the game on the important details. I also think the rest of the animation is perfect just the way it is, it is simple but so detailed!

It's a shame that you never got to finish this piece, as it would've been good to see it in colour, however I also love the uncoloured version as it adds a little something to the video by only seeing outlines.
Either way it is one amazing video, LOVE IT.

Justin Williams after sans walks of Sans asks Papyrus (his brother that is also dead) if he wants anything. Then you hear the sound effect of when a monster dies. Sans did die, only not on screen

I really love how much emotion and personality you put into both characters. Sure, it may not be colored and super polish on every little detail, but the choreography is good and overall it was very fun to watch. Just when I thought the well had dried up on undertale animations
This remains my favorite Sans and Frisk battle animation, if not my favorite Undertale animation in general. Spectacularly done!

Hey um for those who want to at 2:04 put it at 0.25x speed or lower if it lets you and then (if it lets you lower you might not need to) pause and play rapidly to only let maybe a few frames go by. It will let you see all the little secret flashbacks that Sans had. Also at 2:08 there is some images that will probably suprise you
The 2:08 time stamp probably won’t let you go to the actual frame that shown you the image.
Warning of spoilers to the frames if you haven’t seen them.
So they are of the genocide route you took, killing all of the bosses up to him. After that it shows him killing the player many times. This implies the fact that in this animation Sans does know about the other timelines and the fact he has vague memories of killing you showing he does remember them. Then in the 2nd to last one at 2:09 it shows him either kneeling down in regret or crying because he had to kill against his desire of not to kill you for you to reset and not do genocide. He then comes back from that flashback and realizes that he is giving you mercy but can’t because of your actions and killings. Something else to back this up is when the player is impaled by the bone they are scared or freaked out because it reminds them of one of the other timelines where they died to bones impaling them.
Tbh I don't care that it's unfinished. You're still able to understand the basic storyline, and it looks fricking amazing.

I love the way Frisk swings the knife, they don't act like some combat trained ninja or something like in all the other animations, they swing with all their weight behind them like a crazy kid with a knife. The movement is incredible

There's a lot of great animations on RUclips that mischaracterize Genocide Frisk, and also animate them like a heroic underdog with evil secondary tendencies. Your Frisk has a terrific energy about them that reminds me of how I felt playing the Genocide route, and they make a terrific adversary to your uniquely heroic and cocky Sans.

this is the best Megalovania animation I've seen honestly and it was the most accurate too, I saw all of sans' attacks, in the places they would be, at the right times you put the entire sans boss fight and it was entirely accurate
