This pair of Thorogood Moc Toe boots was mailed to us for repair. These boots were in rough shape and definitely needed some love. After thoroughly cleaning these boots, reconditioning them and adding new Vibram Christy wedge soles, these boots are good to go. Time for another restoration!

Red Wing sells a lot of boots no longer usa made. Picked up my first pair of Thorogoods this year, thinking I wont go back to Red Wing. I believe in supporting US Labor and Unions.

@Barry McCokiner pros are more comfortable, no break in and more variety especially in safety toe. Honestly i love them i switched over 6 years ago and haven't looked back. Cons could be the fibreboard and rubber welt but doesnt seem to make a difference that I noticed.

All Redwing Heritage are made in USA 🇺🇸, and if you go check out RoseAnvil channel hell show both redwing and thorogood internal construction. In my opinion redwing are better made although thorogood are very good quality as well. And if you really want a heavy duty go with the Nicks boots 🥾

FYI, that stitch on the welt isn’t a faux stitch, that’s the inseam stitch that attaches the ribbing on the insole to the welt. I’ve been making these boots for two years now. Love seeing a pair of good used boots that we’ve made getting a facelift. Proud of what I’m helping produce.

I love thorogoods but at their core they are a disposable product. I’ve resoled my thorogood moc toes 2 times and they r literally falling apart at the seams. Thorogoods are the best work boots I've ever worn. I've worn every style and brand over my 15yrs as a railcar welder and repairman. Never found a pair of boots that would last more than 3 months before i burnt out the stitching, soles fall off, toes wore through or became too uncomfortable to wear. My thorogoods lasted me 1 1/2 years!!! I recently became a subscriber and enjoy each and every video y'all post. Thanks and keep up the great work guys!

@@petepoteet The problem with that is that this guy probably charges around 130-200 for cleaning and resouling. Why people throw them away. Not to say this guy isnt worth it but the economics have created the throw away society. 9-10 months is a bit low. you may check into their warranty. A lot of these boot manufactures try and guarantee 1 year as that is how long a good pair of boots should last. Youre only a few months shy of that so theyd probably give you 80 bucks off on your next pair or something like that.

I was a bootmaker for Weinbrenner from '76-'96 in Merrill, WI. It's not as easy as this man makes it look and I'm amazed they are still made in the USA as lack of appreciation for American craftsmanship all but killed the industry during my lifetime. Nothing felt better than being surrounded by the smell of real leather while looking over the rack of boots you made during a shift.

I’m a big fan of the thorogood 8” moc toe. I’ve got almost 3 1/2 years in the oilfield in the pair I have now and their still going strong. I will need a resole very soon though😏 I’ve worn almost all the big work boot makers redwing, Justin, Ariat, twistedX etc and the thorogoods are comfortable straight out of the box with almost no break in period (1-12 hour shift) and last for a good while. I got 4 years out of my last pair, before someone took them out of my truck. The only time I don’t wear them to work is if it’s raining or is muddy out, Their not water proof. Plus they can easily be found for way less than $200. The pair I have now I bought on sale for $129.99 from an online motorcycle shop from Brooklyn NY🤘🏽😎🤘🏽

As usual, a great resoling job, and on a very worthy boot I might add. I proudly sell these made in the U.S.A. Thorogood boots in my store. My father was selling Thorogood boots before I was born in 1959 so I am thrilled to see so many people discovering this storied brand. You have a press with dies that allow you to cut leather components so I can see why you are proud of the addition of a leather mid-sole. As you stated the standard rubber cement, like Barge or Masters, likes the porosity of leather making a solid adhesive grip. We use standard rubber white mid-soles in our shop and it works well as long as we use the newer Barge Infinity cement. Infinity reacts with the synthetic welt which Thorogood uses. We have to let it melt or fuse into the synthetic welt and firm back up as it cures. Careful heat application reactivates the glue's stickiness while not overly softening the grip or welt. We then apply the mid-soles by pressing on the body and edges, then we sew them with the curved needle stitcher. At this point I like letting them sit for a couple of hours. Then it's time to apply either the Vibram Cristy or the Goodyear Tampa sole to the previously glued mid-soles by hand hammering, machine pressing, then edge pressing on the 5-in-1 as seen on your video. I checked into buying pre-cut leather mid-soles from our supplier Southern Leather and they do not carry them. I wouldn't mind offering it, but have found our method of glueing and sewing the white rubber mid-soles works great. Shoe making and repairing is an art in my book. I've spent a lifetime learning and still consider it an on-going process. Seeing your craftsmanship has added to my knowledge so keep up the great work and videos. You guys are artisans of re-crafting footwear at a high level indeed. I truly enjoy the videos.

Clean them at the end of the day, and every three day weekend (approx every three mos) clean them well with soapy water and a brush, then let dry overnight. Next day, treat with mink oil and let them sit in the sun/on a heat vent the remainder of the weekend. Viola! They look new again

If you actually use your boots for work.. I'd go Thorogood all the way. I don't care if some of the materials are not quite as good or whatever.. they hold up and stay comfortable. I've tried about every brand out there is and I'll stick with my Thorogoods. I've been buying them for almost 20 years and never let me down. However for about 7 years I worked at a place that you had to have a defined heel, either TG didn't offer a defined heel in this style or I didn't know about them (although they do now). So I tried a lot of different boots (no cheapies either) and settled on redwing slipons waterproof. Cost me about 260 and they were pretty much junk now that I look back.. infact I damaged my feet and have some pretty bad feet pain now. I moved to a new job and went back to Thorogoods and the foot pain is so much more manageable now. The damage is done it'll always be there but it's not as bad at the end of every day now. I was three pairs into the special order redwings and a buddy was telling me a lot of redwings were made in China I checked and couldn't believe it.. mine were. The leather was junk and scuffed easily.. which my local cobbler told me redwing uses low grade leather on waterproof lined boots to save money since they don't have to rely on the leather for a certain amount of water resistance. I can't believe I wore them as long as I did especially since there were days where I'd be hobbling and walking on the sides of my feet by the end of the day lol. I guess long story short.. I've had great luck with TG and would recommend them to anyone!

If you’re going to buy thorogoods, make sure you get the union made version of whatever style you want. Definitely noticeable craftsmanship.

@@TrentonHeath have you guys done any work on Chippewa logger boots. I'm thinking about having mine cleaned up and resoled. I was wondering how cost effective vs. new boots. Mine has little actual wear but I hate the heavy soles.

Before the saddle soap, I always give my boots a good brushing, followed by a good rinse and wipe down with an old washcloth.
