This pair of Thorogood Moc Toe boots was brought in for repair. These boots were in rough shape and definitely needed some love. After thoroughly cleaning these boots, reconditioning them and adding new leather welts and Vibram Chisty wedge soles, these boots are good to go. Time for another restoration!

These videos have made me a boot snob and I am so grateful for that. I really gotta learn how to do this stuff, seems like a real fun thing to keep your mind occupied with
Glad they’ve helped. Thanks for watching!
Hee hee - totally agree! Trenton and Heath plus Rose Anvil have turned me into one as well. I'm writing this while wearing a pair of White's Explorer boots I bought used...and contemplating ordering a new pair of Northwest Logger Boots from JK or Nick's come the New Year. :)
Same here lol
You Men are amazing at you Job, This Is a loss art, I remember in the 60-70's My father Having new soles put on his work boots By a old Man in town, Without men Like you This would know longer Be offered. God Bless Keep up the Good work
Love the “ Hot Cork” moments! Love what you guys do, it’s truly a lost art.
Thank you! We appreciate you watching.
Gents, if only more people would repair/refurbish their durable goods - you set a great example and are generous with tips & tricks. Wishing you a Merry Christmas!🎄
Thank you! We’re glad you enjoyed it. Merry Christmas!
I’m a retired carpenter superintendent. 50 years on my feet. Lots of boots. I appreciate what them old boots have seen. Great work. Skills thanks for the video. From. Sc
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
I like when you use vibram soles and heels
I've worn out many boots, but I still get use out of a pair of 38-year-old Moc Toe shoes (original everything--even laces). They may be worthy of their own episode of Mike Rowe's Dirty Jobs. Seeing a pair so similar to mine get this kind of restorative love... great job Brothers!!! Merry Christmas to all.
your extensive knowledge and dedication to your craft as cobblers make me confident n buying quality leather shoes. 👌 always a treat to know something new from your show. more blessing to you guys!
Thanks so much! We’re glad they help.
As always, y'all make your skills look so effortless, great job, thanks for great content.Merry Christmas to you and your families.
Thank you! We really appreciate you watching. Merry Christmas!
Would love to see you give a tour of the shop and a brief description. Of the equipment you use and its purpose
The explanations are very helpful, the machines-beautiful. Fantastic video!
Wow. "Mt Gluesuvius" was empty? That was a first.
But a simpler yet still worthy resole. I enjoy seeing actual working boots that have been through the ringer come back to life, especially when you folks improve in the original construction.
Great job, gents. Happy Sunday! 👍🥾
Haha…yeah, it doesn’t happen often. Glad you enjoyed it. Happy Sunday and Merry Christmas!
Another one! You guys along with Steve (Bedos leather works) and others, took what some consider a menial job,
To a sophistication of cobbler craftsmanship undeniability!!! Bravo!
I love watching your videos
That split leather welt looks so good!
Nice Work Fellas!
Wesołych Świąt!
Merry Christmas!
Love to see it!!! The upgrade, to me -- the welt. I've had plastic/rubber in the past and they crack/break, especially in cold weather. Always enjoy these vids of quality re-crafting!!! Gents -- Wishing all the best this Christmas and New Year for you and fams!!! Reason for the Season! Be Safe
We appreciate you watching! Glad you enjoyed it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well!
I would love to see a one of the restoration channels team up with you guys and restore all your awesome original equipment and make it look as new. I’m equally fascinated by the tools as I am your skills.
P.s. the money shot is the hot cork ironing 👍
You gotta LUV that Hot Cork Action.
AlwYs a great time watching you guys work the magic keep those videos flying boot bros
You guys do awesome work !!!!!
Great job, guys! They look better than new!!
This is the first time I've seen anyone using saddle soap the way I do. I keep seeing guys using paper towels to wipe it off, and I always think the same thing - "Don't you have a sink?!" :-) I liked the pure cork sausage too. There's a Jimmy Dean joke in there somewhere...
😁
I don't know why but I always find it oddly satisfying to watch and hear the sound of the old stitching being ripped out of a pair of boots. Thanks again for another great video. A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to y'all and your families.🎅🌲🎉 Hope you have your shopping done.😉
For me, it’s the application of the hot cork that I really enjoy.
Haha…glad you enjoy it. It’s fun to rip out. 😁 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family as well!
Same here guys. I love watching craftsmen at work.
I've never seen that Saphir Oiled Leather product before. Great restoration and video, thank you!
I had hopes of getting you guys to do my Thorogoods but when it was time you were super busy ( which is a good thing) and not taking anymore orders at the time. I ended up going through Thorogoods restoration program which was actually done by a company called NuShoe. I opted for a complete restoration with a leather welt. They did a good job as far as I can tell but I feel like I lost a shoe size on the top of my foot. They were some kinda tight for a while and eventually loosened up. Always enjoy watching you guys.
Made a good pair of boots even better
There is something so satisfying about the sound of those old stitches being pulled out of the leather.
Good job Payton!
The company I work for allows us $400.00 for boots each year. I used mine to purchase a pair of Danner Acadians. We only have one cobbler left in the area and I got him to replace the soles on my 5-year-old boots. It is amazing what can be done. Great video!
Really like y’all’s videos. Please keep them going. Merry Christmas to all of your families.
Merry Christmas, guys!
Merry Christmas!
Great turn out. Thanks for the video
Fascinating process!
Always enjoy the channel, you've done a few of my boots past couple years and they're going strong.
Would be cool to see ya'll put one of rose anvil's boots back together even if it's all just for fun.
Whew…now that would be a major challenge!
Awesome refurb on those boots! Greetings from just south of y'all in Huntsville. Got the wife a pair of your Biloxi snow leopard sandals for a Christmas gift and just had to show them to her when they came in. She was ecstatic! You should have seen the smile on her face!
That’s awesome! So glad she likes them. We really appreciate it! Merry Christmas!
@@TrentonHeath Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours! :)
Yes! These are my favorites. Thanks 😊
I know y'all put a lot of thought into how you film these videos, but I especially liked the shot at 2:36. Very satisfying! 😁👍 Great video!
I like the tall moc toes. Glad to see them live on with some upgrades
Back in the day when I was a cobbler and had to do a new welt I would punch holes in the welt first before I would sew it on the shoes ,it made thing easier of me .
I have a pair just like these, and I love them, but I beat the snot out of them, still new, well 8 months old, love the video keep them coming.
Amazing work
Wishing you both and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. Continued success.
Thank you so much! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you as well.
Great job guys. You are a point of reference in my day to day life. A big hug from Catalonia and Merry Christmas!!!
Thanks so much! Merry Christmas!
Love my moc toes but hate the white christy soles. Can't wait to get my whites resoled with the black soles lol.
Those came out looking great. Better than new! Thanks for sharing.
I work as a trucker for a food bank and have a pair of Irish setter moc toes (not redwings) that I’ve worn for about 4,000 miles over the past 2 years. I’ve worn through the sole, the midsole is toast, the (synthetic) welt is cracked, and the insole material is wore out. I know they’re cheap boots, but I love the uppers. It would be a dream to have them rebuilt like this. Probably would too expensive though.
So you’re walking on the insole?
I limit my carb intake but I wouldn’t mind a “cheat meal” featuring some of that hot cork oatmeal with some almond milk!
Beautiful gents ty
Thanks!
I've gone through a few of your videos and I've learned and realized so much about shoes. Your craftsmanship is all thumps-up.
Btw do you guys make custom boots?
Fascinating, I wonder if it cost more for new or to have them refurbished……….
Thank u
Great job! Loved the end result !
4th. Merry Christmas. Hope you have a great 2023!👍👊
Thank you! Merry Christmas to you as well!
Awesome job!! How fun to watch
I love the way the turned out. I only wish I kept my old pair to have you guys do this job to them. But tossed them after the canvas started peeling off the inner toe box area. Sad day that was
NICE JOB
Good job as always!
Great guys nice work
I just got a new pair of Thorogood 814-4200 like the ones in this video. Should I apply mink oil to them fresh out of the box? Or should I wait a while before oiling? I’m hoping to make them a little water resistant with the mink oil.
Awesome video as always Gents. Glad Heath is back and feeling better. Trenton would you mind saying where you get your shirts from please? They always look cool. Merry Christmas to you guys and your families.
Thank you! The flannel i had on in this video was from JCrew. The tshirts i often wear are my newest favorites…True Classic Tees. Merry Christmas!
Always liked the look of those Thorogood Moc toe boots - but not a fan of the wedge sole. Love to see a pair rebuilt with a black vibram cleated sole.
I like the wedge for myself, because they are they only type of sole that gives me back support and doesn’t hurt my feet when your standing on them for a full shift.
Great video! Those boots are better than new.
Would love to see a Grant Stone resole next year!
I’ve got a pair like these that are near and dear to my heart (the last gift I ever got from my grandmother )and I would be honored to see mine get this attention . How could I? Where do I send? Take my money …👍🏼😂🎩
Hey those are my boots!!!
dang they sure look good
when i was working in construction in a sheet metal union there wasnt a job site i went to where i didnt see multiple pairs of these boots.
I love these videos and your skills! However, I always wonder what these restorations cost. I have to think that it would cost someone less to buy a brand new pair of Thorogoods than it would be to do this restoration (the cost of your labor along with the cost of a new sole, new welt, new leather midsole, new laces, and the upper treatment).
It would be close. I looked into redoing a pair of mine for the future and it can go anywhere from 100-200$ depending on what all u have done. Averaging prolly around 150$. New ones are now like 270$. For me I would do it just for sentimental reasons. Just to say “I’ve been warring these boots for over 20 years now 😂 btw the uppers on thorogoods are as good any any other brand so when u do get all this done they are every bit as good as red wing or others.
Thorogood charges 150 for a complete restoration. Don’t saves you 110-120
Introduce us to Fire Beard! Love the videos gang. Keep it up!
Thorogoods on my feet now as im off to work. Love it!
great job ! love these boots
I would be wearing gloves touching inside of a boot but thats me love hear how u handle the stench of boots
I've watched a bunch of y'all's videos, but I just thought of a question for the first time.
What happens, from the business standpoint, if you ruin/destroy a customer's shoes? You could be tearing off the old welt, when suddenly, the upper rips in half. What happens then?
Just curious!
What are your thoughts on using shaving cream instead of saddle soap to clean with? I've used it in a pinch and have always had some good results on older leather that needed "conditioning".
I can’t say we’ve ever tried that method. May have to give it a try.
My Marine Corps boots from 74 could use that love and attention...
Nice work...
But please ask your video editor to reduce the noise volume during the sanding wheel part.
How long is this process? Is this like a drop off pick up same day? Or couple days possibly week(s)?
As always, an excellent video. Thank you for sharing.
7:33, Anxious (a negative word, think anxiety, fear, dread, and the like) comes from the Latin word Angere (their spelling). Its meaning was "to choke and strangle", nothing to look forward to. My guess, you are eagerly (a positive) looking forward to tasting your whisky.
Odd question, I know, but what does 'hot cork time' smell like? Every time I watch you do it, I imagine the smell of 'punks'. Those were what we would light in the old days, to light fireworks with. Maybe it's because they are similar in color.
Thanks really enjoy these videos can you do a video with a pair of red wing mock toe boots
Next .
Dig what you guys are doing. I've got a pair of boots I'd love to get resoled. They're Ariat Rambler western boots. Not sure if they can be done with the rubber sole they have, and that they are not a Goodyear welted boot. Would you guys be able to let me know if those can be done or not? Thanks, and Merry Christmas!
yeah my pocket knives are both my warhorses and my trophys haha
What is the price for the services you provided on these Thorogood moc toes? I have the 6' boot in size 12 medium. My pair is very similar in condition.
Awesome
Trying to bribe us with hot cork 😆 🤣....
Look at this ! That's right. HOT CORK. Smash that like button though.....
You will not manipulate me ! Wait....hot cork? Ok....ok. Just iron the cork....I liked it.
Lol...
😂😂
As always phenomenal job gentleman! Do you ever replace the wedge sole with Thorogood's wedge as opposed to the Vibram?
What has been THEE most extreme upper portion of boot damage that you have repaired? I have a nice pair of boots that I've worn only a handful of times and the upper on one is just shredded.
Nice job as usual..aged boots remind of a grouchy old man (uppers, mayb me ) wearing a pair of ur new sandals (soles).
Great work as always. I'm wondering the cost of that particular restoration project. I have some older boots that may require some reconstruction. My local cobbler can certainly resole them well enough. But, would be has been reluctant to re-welt shoes or to do lining repairs. So the question arises.....restoration or replacement? Cost isn't the only consideration, but is a consideration.
Great
Lol pulling them welt stitches like Brian does.
Those boots had to feel great after that bath.
How much does something like this cost? What boots would recommend (on buying first boot moc toe). Thanks
Do you do your own repairs on your Landis stitcher?
The moc toe, not the best choice if you’re a welder or use a cutting torch. Metal slag gets caught in the toe seam, burns the thread then the boots deteriorate. I’ve always worn Red Wings but as I get older I would prefer something a little lighter. Suggestions?
What brand of slip-on boots would you recommend? I have had Rocky's for a while now, but they are starting to drink water.
Hi Trenton and Heath!! Great job! I am curious as to how much a resole costs that DOES include a new leather welt for a pair of thorogood steel toe work boots? (I’d like the Thorogood brand wedge sole replacements if available) Also does the price differ if the boots are lace up / slip on? I ask because I have two pair that I would love to have resoled. One pair is a discontinued slip on wellington style boot with a solid lug type outsole. The other pair is an 8” lace up moc toe with the max wear 90 defined heel type outsole . It would be awesome to have both welts replaced with new leather welts and the thorogood brand white wedge soles on both pair. I’d settle for the vibram christy soles if need be, though I do prefer the thorogood brand ones. Also , I have some Double H square toe , steel toe cowboy style work boots with a very irritating squeak in the left heel. Would you guys be considerate of reworking them and giving them away to someone who NEEDS them if I were to donate them to you guys ? All I ask is that you film it for one of your videos (so I may watch it 😋) and film yourselves giving them to the special person who gets them. This way I can watch the video and see the face of the person who gets them. If this interests you , contact me please. I’d love to help in any way bc I know someone out there needs a nice quality set of boots and would be very happy to receive them. Thanks guys I love your work and admire your skill. Merry Christmas 🎄!!!
I can't imagine the smell you guys must deal with sometimes when washing out those nasty boots. Respect.
i have two pair of thorogoods that i absolutely love. but for the life of me i will never understand why they don't take the speed hooks all the way to the top.
more cowboy boots! please😊
I used to buy Danner boots... mine didn't last long! 3 to 5 months...If I was lucky! I bought thorogood moc toes have worn tthe boots to the ground!!!!! about 7 months + and I am ready for a new pair. I think the Thorogood are a decent value at $250 and better than Danner.
