The main purpose behind performing preformulation studies is :-
1. Assessing integrity and purity of drugs
2. Checking purity of excipients
3. Performing examination of chemicals and crosschecking through standard literature like Indian Pharmacopoeia, and various other pharmacopoeia. Merck index, etc.
4. Examination criteria: assessment and examination of drugs, excipients consist physical parameters and chemical property assessment.
5. Physical parameter include: particle size, shape, polymorphism, organoleptic properties.
Pharmaceutical industries involve in manufacturing of dosage form, purchase drugs and excipients from other companies. These pure drugs and excipients are examined for their integrity and purity, which comes under preformulation.
