  • I've been sitting on this weedless spoon fishing footage for a while and finally decided to try to edit it in a meaningful way. The audio isn't the greatest in some spots but I think it's doable. So enjoy this episode of weedless spoon fishing, using a "spazztic" retrieve that some of my buddy's refer to as my "Parkinson's retrieve". For the sake of a little P.C., I'll call it the "Curly Shuffle" instead.

Great tip on that retrieve. I'm going to try that spazztic retrieve this summer. Thanks for sharing. Tight lines from Rick

I learned it from a guy over 20 years ago and have never shared it. Will catch big fish too. Great around shallow hydrilla. Experiment with sizes and trailers to get the action you like. Thanks for commenting.

Just watched your weedless spoon video. Lot of interesting info I had never considered. Do you use a leader? Straight braid, floro or mono? Thanks!

Personally, I use 20 lb mono for just about everything and I am not a fan of floro, based on early experiences with it. Perhaps there are better floro lines available today. I use braid for flipping and I have one braid rig for fishing pads, when I really need to throw into the thick of them. On the braid rig I do use a 40# mono or floro leader. Straight monoa for the spoons though.

Great video!! What tackle do you recommend??

I use 7' medium rods typically because I feel the limpness helps fish get the bait better. But I use heavy 20 and 25 lb mono to compensate. Flourocarbon might be better. I'm just not a fan of the stuff. I used to use medium heavy rods with spoons for a long time and it probably helps with a better hookset. But that's all relative to one's height, strength, and hook-setting prowess. So I take all rod/line combination recommendations with a grain of salt. You have to determine what works for you in all lure/cover situations. In heavy cover, I can see where braid could be a good thing as well. Thee are so many ways to fish a spoon effectively, that all of the afore-mentioned possibilities are all good options. Best thing is to experiment and find what works best for you in your (and various) environments.
