My absolute favourite scene in this film (and one of my faves from *any* film ever made) is the scene after this battle. The private one-on-one discussion between Maximus and Marcus Aurelius, Caesar. Caesar tells Maximus he's going to empower him to one end after Caesar dies. Maximus looks down, says nothing. Caesar asks if Maximus accepts "this great honor I have bestowed upon you?" Maximus: "With all my heart, *no* Caesar." 😞 And Caesar's response gets me every time: "Oh my boy... that is precisely *why* it *must* be YOU!" 🥲

One of the greatest films. Ever made hands down..... The actors... Phoenix as ceaser is just insane as a jelous spoilt son and should of won an oscar really... The music is incredible, for me its Just one of those very rare gems where it all fits... Fantastic
You know what? Ridley Scott proves that he is actually a f$%ing great artist by introducing the first scene of General Maximus looking at the bird flying with a smile. That scene defines who General Max actually is. Though he is a war hero, an undisputed warrior, he is a soft human deep down in his heart expecting peace, freedom, relaxation with personal life, and nature just like every normal human. Amazing, You can't win Oscar without that level of greatness.

Having the privilege to work with Ridley Scott must be unbelievable. Yet it was Russel Crow, running around as the main character in this movie and killing it. What a fucking legend.

@@jasrajsinghbhinder5033 critics are useless, why even care what they have to say?
So many phenomenal movies, but when he shits the bed he SHITS the bed. He missed every potential for greatness with Prometheus, Covenant was an absolute mess worthy of a 1st time director not the guy who made Gladiator, Blade runner, Alien, American gangster etc. etc.
@@jasrajsinghbhinder5033 I didn't know they were bad, I actually never checked what the rating's were. It was just something I put on long after it came out, hoping to fall asleep to it... of course that didn't happen as I watched it again the following night.
So many little subtle moments, never followed through, I loved it. Like his assistant, she could have her own Netflix show! That lawyers why-did-I-even-hire-you hand-wave to her assistant, chef's kiss for sure, like, what was THAT all about? And I'm so glad they never even explained things like that.
I fell in love with Marion Cotillard in that movie.
Well.... I have never watched RC's movies.. till about a week ago: Gladiator.
I cried and cried... because I know what it means to lose a loved one, and he was so believable. He has this lingering factor in me.
I love this actor !Its my favorite movie for the eternity.
The opening sequence is transportive, an incredible film.
Ridley Scott is the Hitchcock of our days. So many great films.
This man is such an amazing actor.. Just pure raw energy.
Despite having seen this movie dozen of times when his character gives the order, "Unleash hell." I get chills every time.
Funny story: originally that line was something like "release the dogs". During the recording of Italian dubbing the voice actor randomly changed the line into "unleash hell" ; Ridley Scott somehow got wind of this, loved change and the rest is history.
alwyas love the scene when he said, everything u do in life echoes eternity..
My friends and I used to joke that his dog's name is Hell
@@nathansmith5362 in Greek mythology that 3 headed dog's name is Cerberus.
This made me smile. Two great artists working together. The humanity in this little moment with the bird. Beautiful
Gladiator is my favorite movie of all time! Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix played the roles of their lives here...I love every second of this movie
He was great in gladiator, master and commander, and American gangster. Three of my favorites!
Master and Commander. The premise of the movie put me off. I wasn't interested in watching a movie about battles at sea. Eventually I watched it and I was amazed. Brilliant from start to finish
@@chemdahMassive fan of the books and it is one of my all time favorites. RC was the perfect cast for Jack Aubrey and he absolutely nailed the character.
I havent seen master and commander yet.
It seemed boring, I always disliked boat/ship movies..
Are they on land on it or does the whole movie take place on a ship?
@@nr1NPC A lot of it takes place on land, but I wouldn’t say any of it is boring. All the scenes are well written
@@Bastikovski99 Alright thats cool. I am a movie addict, I watch like a movie every day but completely missed that one.
I never liked the sea.. but I like Ridley Scott and I like Crowe so I should maybe give it a shot
Caesar asks if Maximus accepts "this great honor I have bestowed upon you?"
Maximus: "With all my heart, *no* Caesar." 😞
And Caesar's response gets me every time:
"Oh my boy... that is precisely *why* it *must* be YOU!" 🥲
His best work.. It's where I first noticed mr Crow and he hit it out the park with Gladiator...
Check out Romper Stomper.
I remember seeing ‘Gladiator’ at the cinema when it came out in 2000. One of my favourite cinema excursions. Such an amazing film. Got pissed after in the pub and we spoke about it all night.
Not a bad way to spend an evening that
When Ridley Scott filmed Prometheus on the Isle of Skye i was the chef in the hotel he stayed in. So needless to say i fed him and he bought me a whisky in the local pub. He loved the Scottish banter. 😁
That's one hell of a vision Ridley had there.
Wow. He did such an amazing job on that movie. That little nuance that is in there. You can watch it at least 3 times and find new thing to appreciate every time.
One of the best. RIP Oliver Reed 🙏❤️
ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES RUSSELL CROW SHOULD HAVE 10 OSCARS!!!
I always loved this scene. Without dialogue, it immediately added complexity/ depth to the character. So well done, thank you.
I genuinely smiled at the end of this story ❤
Watched it about 20 times never gets old....up there with the best movies
Such a beautiful movie. Classic, great story, music is awesome and placed in the perfect spots mixed with the great camera work brings some truly emotional scenes.
One of the greatest films ever. Great script, great cast, great acting 🎭😉
Underated actor....but absolutely
legendary (beginning with this film) 🤔🤯❤️
The raw emotion in almost every moment of Gladiator is insane
When you see that first scene you know already that is gonna be a legendary master piece
Such a great actor for such a great movie.
My parents actually named me Maximus after this movie. It's a great name, and I can always just go by the nickname "Max".
Lies. Your parents named you Samu Rye Bread obviously. We're not suckers.
Thats cool
Bro, if it was me I wouldnt being going by Max if you had a badass named like Maximus
Russel Crowe is a damn beast of an actor.
I was 4 when gladiator 1 came out. I watched it on a cd player. Surprise, I didn't think much about it.. Recently, I watched it again. Man, I was entertained..
BRILLIANT! One of the last perfect Epics. If you haven't seen the Unrated Director's Cut, you're in for a treat.
Say what now?
Didn't know there is a Directors Cut.
One of the greatest movies ever made. I watch it when I'm feeling stressed out and defeated. Empowers me every single time.
Mr. Crowe seems like such a nice man. Ged, UK.
One of the greatest films. Ever made hands down..... The actors... Phoenix as ceaser is just insane as a jelous spoilt son and should of won an oscar really... The music is incredible, for me its Just one of those very rare gems where it all fits... Fantastic
You are so right
Are you refeering to ceasar as a title or as in gaius julius ceasar?
He means caesar as a title (kaiser many years later)
This movie. Alien and Blade runner.
@jrg9638 yeah that's what i mean...they used the word for their leaders like Kaiser Wilhelm etc more then 2000 years later
He crushed it in that movie…Fantastic performance man
I have the movie on DVD and BR but it’s on a streaming platform right now and I still watched it, lol. I AM ENTERTAINED
*ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?* oh wait u are, lol
You know what? Ridley Scott proves that he is actually a f$%ing great artist by introducing the first scene of General Maximus looking at the bird flying with a smile. That scene defines who General Max actually is. Though he is a war hero, an undisputed warrior, he is a soft human deep down in his heart expecting peace, freedom, relaxation with personal life, and nature just like every normal human. Amazing, You can't win Oscar without that level of greatness.
He was on a legendary level status even before Gladiator actually, but yes, he's a f$%ing great artist bro!!!
his voice tolls the bells from the depths of my memories of a child watching gladiator
Hahaha, Russell's laugh makes this funny story even more funnier!
So many great quotes from the movie.
"Are you not entertained?"
"What we do in life echoes in eternity!"
And that’s an Oscar , right there
One of the most beautiful cinematic experiences ever - Gladiator ❤
The first dvd me, my mum, dad and brother watched!!!!!!! Epic movie!
The cast for that movie was just perfect!!
Dude won the best actor oscar over Tom Hanks that year who had definitively made millions cry in theaters across the world over a volley ball.
Castaway is shite compared to Gladiator.
WILSON!!
Russell was better 😊
The cinema was at his top end of 90s /beginning of 00s
when movies were for adults and not big kids
O la película de Padres eh Hojas! 🎉❤❤. Para mí el papel de Papá fue grandioso todo lo qué transmitio. Bellísima actuacion.
Gracias por el amor y el apoyo.
This is how actors show us their skills, when they explain the moment they created
“Are you not entertained?” Is easily one of the most legendary lines in all of cinema history
I loved the background score in this movie
Check out where that music came from. You'll be surprised!
@@s_kosto You referring to Zimmer?
RS is something else. What an asset to creativity.
I’ll give them something that they never seen before. Touché Maximus Touché
Ridley: I’m just gonna shoot you-
Russel: 👁️ 👄 👁️
Ridley: contemplating
Scott's Director's Cut for Kingdom of Heaven transforms it into a four-star movie.
I just re watched kingdom of heaven again last week. God it's such a beautiful movie.
For real. I never saw that version
It’s not THAT different, it’s still not a great movie tbh, I do enjoy it tho
Easily one of the most overrated films KoH is c-b tier but praised because the setting
@@Commendatori Dang Bob
You killed my excitement for it. Lol.
" Father of a murdered son , husband to a murdered wife and I will have my revenge in this life or the next"
When I remember this line, it brings tears and anger at the same time.
First time I ever saw gladiator was on my honeymoon… I drank 2 bottles of wine and cried like a baby…
Same here. I’m a man but i shamelessly had teary eyes on that death scene and the music
🤣🤣🤣❤️
This is still such a great movie every time I watch it.
Having the privilege to work with Ridley Scott must be unbelievable. Yet it was Russel Crow, running around as the main character in this movie and killing it. What a fucking legend.
That scene was so amazing - we all new the rest of the movie would be a work of art from that moment ❤
That's a great story about two absolute geniuses of their craft ❤️👌🎬
Maximus never died ..he went to the afterlife...why start the film. With afterlife...end with afterlife and take it out on gladiator 2... Maximus made this film epic...he should get paid for all the attention gladiator 2 is getting he needs a cameo on part 2...after all i do believe in the afterlife ❤❤❤ maximus..maximus..
I hope your in the second film..you still have thousands of fans and followers..❤ Russell Crowe and cast awesome job.
Great clip, you put everything together perfectly, you don't get many videos like this
I was about to say the same thing. Pretty much a perfect short.
@@TheTruthKiwi yes I particularly hate when you have narration and they're just playing any picture that has nothing to do with anything, where as if they put in the effort it would make a difference
@@jamesjameson4566 For sure man.
