A little trick I learned to get paint to stick to galvanized metal, is to put some straight vinegar on it and let it sit for a while then rinse off. That will etch it so the paint to stick to the slick surface. Learned it from an old timer that painted aluminum boats. works great. Nice hog house, by the way.

The suppers that you show with the family, I enjoy but I. Must compliment you on the lovely balance of "old sayings, poems, and PREACHING., " you're pretty good kid. I was married to a fellow that THOUGHT he was a preacher. Just didnt have the real heart for it.. I saw what he did to little beings when he thought no one watched. I did, so did God.. you do a

We have been like you and your family. We are so veggie hungry, and can't wait for fresh garden greens. I wanted to share a blessing with. I just got the "go ahead" to start a community garden at Salem Place apartments, near our farm. This is a low income, family community complex, and we will be starting out with three raised beds. Each bed is 10'x4'x3'. I'm supper excited to teach these families how to grow some of their own food. I'm using some of your raised bed ideas, and there will even be one bed that will be half strawberries. Tell Olivia I got the idea from her berry patch. I think the kids will love it! I will be sharing your RUclips channel with them as well. I think you can inspire these families to take charge of their "homestead" no matter where they live. God bless you, and thank you for sharing your homestead.

Snow here since nov 9 last year. Yes we are thanking GOD for every little plow scrape of dirt!!!! The craziest was the morning we opened the door, and with the print of the door in it ,could barely look over the snow! Had to dig with the boot tray to get to the shovel!!!

You should design a tiny house for your daughter!!!! With window planters and a tiny garden beds on each side of her tiny house....oh, and a walkway....I could go on and on. With a flowering tree in front, for shade and beauty. Can you imagine how many moms and dads would build one for their kids! You make it look so easy. From our family to yours..... Many blessings and love from Texas.

Just a quick note to say how much I enjoy your homestead videos. Lately a few of my cousins have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Although I think I’m too young to be so inflicted ( I turn 68 at the end of the month) I often quiz myself with all your character’s names. It really bothers me when I can recall one. Most often it is Buttercup or Blossom who I forget. I will never forget Tanner, Figiro or what’s his name (Pluto).
Thanks again longtime subscriber and daily likes.

Al, as Master of the land, now is the time to walk all over your place. Note where the first thaw places are. If they are high traffic places, make a note to build them up with sand or gravel. Low places need ditches to promote runoff, or consider installing dry wells. By doing this, in drought years other's farms and wells will dry up, but yours will not.
Go look in your stream to see where to get the sand and gravel.
Where the land can use work, reveals itself now. The better time for doing the work it could use will come later.

    Gooood Morning Al again .
Waste not , want not ! Ha ha , Al , water freezes at 32* F and ice melts at 32* F .
I always have a hard time wrapping my head around that one ! Aspergrass , one of my favorites ! I munch on the raw broken ends. Yes, they are woody and stringy but still quite edible . And they taste good also . I don't have a blender but I'll bet those ends can be liquefied and added to a glass of buttermilk ( or goat's milk ) for a nice spring tonic.

Yay! You're seeing mother earth peaking through the ice and snow! Good for you guys! In answer to your last question, this time of year I like a soup made of lots of chard and cannellini beans in a rich chicken bone broth; but, we had late snows this year (some years it doesn't snow at all but it looks like that might be changing if the past half decade is any indication, too soon to tell) and I'm late getting even some cool weather seeds planted in my little home garden plots. In a day or two, things have suddenly turned around and all of a sudden it's like it's mid-spring! Guess that soup will just have to wait. Snow and ice on the ground about a week or so ago and today it is supposed to get up into the low 70s F even though there was a crust of ice on parts of my compost bin this morning. What Crazy weather! Well, chard is cheap to grow but really expensive to buy in local supermarkets. It's up to almost $2.00 for a small bunch and last time I checked it wasn't even all that fresh looking. I'm looking forward to that first crop. Just hope it doesn't get too hot too fast, not so good for cool weather crops. I might have to go straight to planting warmer weather veggies. Crazy, crazy, weather this year.

I harvested some Swiss Chard and Arugula plus Cilantro from my garden last evening for adding to dinner. I also have Lacinato Kale ready. Also have harvested mini romaine lettuce leaves and beet greens. I give up on Bok Choi--it bolts if it gets warm and it bolts if it gets frosted on. Leave that to someone else. Thinking of names for the pigmobile. Pasture Pig Pokey. Kinda looks like a jail when they will be transported but that may go against your motto for freedom. Just having fun!

Busy, busy update Al. our climate is no where near as cold as yours so we can pretty much get any veg any time of the year. Lots of spring veg from Spain and Mediterranean countries already.

No fresh veggies here yet. Still have a few months for that. Good to see Tanner helping with the chores now.

Yay for mud! We started seeds about a week before you, but still waiting for our tomatoes and cukes to poke out. We're in CA, so different temps, and we are trying in a mini greenhouse but outdoors. So the temps are cooler than indoors - wish we had more space to do some under growing lights. Your seedlings are inspiring us! We've been enjoying romanesco, kale, salads, and citrus (especially cara cara oranges) lately. The first asparagus of the season arrives from our CSA tomorrow - can't wait! Wish we could get out to our family home in NH to enjoy some of the spring muds with you!

I am eating tomatoes, lettuce, broccoli peas. Have a whole bunch of tomatoes I just separated and have in the shed. The other tomatoes plans were from last year, slow but still producing.

I think it's a really good thing, to thank the girls for the eggs. Thank you for doing that so often.

As a vidoe idea, you should go over what you do after harvesting the eggs such as cleaning, drying, storing and rotating the eggs. Love your vidoes and watch daily
