  • A Visit to Coronation Street at Media City in Manchester also Including the Coronation Street Exhibition. Coronation Street is a British television soap opera created by Granada Television and shown on ITV since 9 December 1960. The programme centres on a cobbled, terraced street in the fictional Weatherfield, a town based on inner-city Salford, England. Originally broadcast twice weekly, the series began airing six times a week in 2017. The programme was conceived by scriptwriter Tony Warren. Warren's initial proposal was rejected by the station's founder Sidney Bernstein, but he was persuaded by producer Harry Elton to produce the programme for 13 pilot episodes. The show has since become a significant part of British culture. Coronation Street is made by Granada's successor, ITV Studios, at MediaCityUK and shown in all ITV regions, as well as internationally. In 2010, upon its 50th anniversary, the series was recognised by Guinness World Records as the world's longest-running television soap opera.

Nice to see the UK going above and beyond to preserve the history of its longest running soap and keep it alive in the popular culture zeitgeist. With this attitude, Corrie will easily run for another 50+ years. Producers in other countries (particularly ones with less robust film industries) should take note instead of insisting that soap is a dying genre and encouraging (read forcing) their writers to find other work. Hats off and congratulations, Corrie! 🎉

I don’t see it lasting anywhere near that long if it keeps up the horrendous, virtue signalling and woke sensualised storylines they are too fond of doing now

It feels a little bitter sweet knowing that everything from before 2013 is destroyed. I remember going to see the set during the Granada studios tour days. It feels like a lot of history was lost when they demolished the old set

I've been on the corrie tour a few times now, my last time was just a few weeks ago. I'm guessing you had to film quite discreetly because when I went we were told that you can take pictures but not videos. We were also told not to take any pictures of the Hays Travel sign but I took some anyway.

He told us at the beginning not to film, thats why i didnt get the police station on it, but once i got inside i just filmed, maybe he thought i was taking photos.

The dull, dark, north. Always bleak and rainy. Saying that we've had a few dark, depressing days down south of late. Far too many for my liking. The myth about being sunny down south is a down right lie 😭 😩 🙄 😬 🤔 😡 🙁 😂 😜
