    Would like a Bartarian squad mate in andromeda to give a different perspective on the new races. Kinda like the how jarring Javiks perspective was on the Reaper war compared to other squad mates.

    I would say that the Batarians suffered for a long time under a low-grade indoctrination - that was accelerated by the discovery of a derelict reaper in the relatively recent past. And basically spoke directly about in a ME3 DLC and also ME2 with Keiji's Greybox. This would explain their inability to advance beyond a certain point and why their society was fractured and secretive. Not everyone obviously was "under the spell" but it only takes a few in key positions to undermine the social order.
    I think ME3's re-write and production team did them very few favors and though the galaxy is a big place - it would have been nice to have a Batarian themed DLC in ME2 or even 3 with a raid on Karshan to get one of the obelisks instead of a drive-by by the Normandy and a probe shot. There would have been value in having Batarian, Hanar/Drell and Elcor DLC's as a sort of non-council race pack - where you do more than just contribute to their war asset values - but actually get to experience their own side of the invasion like you do with the Asari and to a lesser degree the Turians. Heck even Salarians get shafted on time in the story.
    The story is rushed and makes it feel like you do all this in a series of weeks rather than perhaps dragged out over a year or more to give it that grand scope. Almost every race deserved more and that includes the Batarians.

    Prehaps you could do the non-appearing races at the end of this series (The Raloi, Virtual Aliens, Arthenn, Inusannon, Oravores, Thoi'Han, Zeioph, Zha'Til, Ditakur, Enduromi, Synril, Vandomar, and Kirik. All are extinct except the Raloi, who were discovered by the asari whilst Shep was KIA and joined the galactic community, The Virtual Aliens, who escaped their exploding sun 80,000 years ago by transforming themselves into AI aboard a small-ish ship. The Salarians found them whilst Shep was KIA and they now only exist mind-controlling willing host bodies, and the Kirik, who are only on the brink of sentience

    A human soldier is overlooking a batarian colony and asks about the slaves. The batarian leader replies, “yes. It’s part of our culture. And you can’t infringe on that.”
    The human replies. “Yes, yes, you’re right. But it’s part of *our* culture to kill slavers. So if you continue, I’ll be in full right to follow the dictations of my own culture.”

    I hope there's a Batarian squad member in Andromeda. That's probably at the top of my list of wanted features for the game. We only ever hear of what Batarians do, but I bet if we learn from them they would be as interesting as any other race. Bioware's also stated that Andromeda's going to be more morally ambiguous, and I think a Batarian companion would be perfect for that.

      Ah, but those are specific individuals, not turians in general. I love Garrus too, but if you'd just show me a picture of the guy and told me he would be one of, if not the best romance option... I would have been sceptical. So who knows, maybe by the time we get Andromeda we will all appreciate batarians on another level, just like we did with turians

    • @StephySon
      @StephySon 8 лет назад +1

      venabre Not just Garrus, while he was a major factor in helping, the overall design of the Turians became rather regal and attractive over time. Same as the Quarians, the Drell, and hell some might even say a few Krogan have stolen some hearts. I just don't see it with the Batarians but I could be wrong but I don't see it.

    The Batarians are such a funny amalgam of various cliche villain tropes in western media. The part about being an inward-looking rogue state with cutthroat intelligence services, very unsubtle government propaganda, information quarantines and so on, that's all the sort of cartoon caricatures of the USSR you'd find in a lot of Cold War Era media. Couple this with the Batarians also launching anti-human terrorism attacks and slave raids, and it's as if the Batarians are both the Soviet Union and also Al-Qaida at the same time. I find it kind of funny how cartoonishly villainous they come off as to me.

    • @vksasdgaming9472
      @vksasdgaming9472 Год назад

      They also are shown with surprising compassion. They are victims of circumstance and not inherently evil. Even Balak who had no qualms about making planet unihabitable just to kill humans does recognize who the actual enemies are and what they have done to batarians. He might dislike humans a lot, but he hates Reapers so much that he will ally with humans without any questions. Most likely he avoided slow process of indoctrination (starting way before series itself starts) because he acted far away from main batarian systems and thus was exposed much less.

    By my reckon the batarians are displayed from a very biased perspective. Sure, there aren't various bad things that come up, but there should be more than just pure evil (in fact you get some interesting reactions when you treat batarians with kindness, like in ME2 when attempting to reach Mordin Solus and subsequently when eliminating the disease - or even in ME3 when helping the batarian preacher). That various batarians throughout the game can actually be convinced to back off their aggressive stance tells me that there should be some way to come to terms with them.
    And concerning the slavery inherent to batarian culture, I doubt that every batarian abuses and/or overworks his slaves. In fact, that doesn't make much sense, and you would have to be quite depraved if you consider people who depend on you to be mere punching bags or whatever (to a slaveholder it usually doesn't make much sense to burden his slaves - whom they essentially consider to be their capital to work with - to the breaking point or beyond. That would be like throwing money down the drain). If you look at other (especially ancient) cultures, many slaves were actually treated rather well so you have quite a wide spectrum in ways of how they were treated.
    This biased point of view can surely be justified by the batarian government deciding on which information gets into or out of batarian space, but I dare say that not every batarian agrees with the Hegemony so it's very well conceivable that there are enough batarians who could want to force a change - and there could be some who could actually be appalled by how their kin treats batarian slaves. It might well be worth delving into this matter.
    Plus also expect underground societies that have set throwing spanners into the works of the Hegemony as their primary goal - and that could surely include leaking confidential or higher-classified information to the remainder of the galaxy.

    I wish we got to see and learn more about them before turning into pirates, slavers, mercenaries and essentially the equivalent of North Korea. For all we know they're beef that Batarians have with humans and the alliance as well as the war with the Turians was orchestrated by the Shadow Broker.

    You are literally just reading information off of a Mass Effect site. Word for word.

    • @MassEffectFollowers
      @MassEffectFollowers  7 лет назад +3

      Actually we didn't. We researched using websites and codex entries and then re-worded the information so it wouldn't be word for word. It isn't even sentence for sentence. Yes, the information is similar, but that is because it is lore. You can't really change that up a bit because if you do, then you are presenting wrong information
