I’m a DevOps engineer and I would explain it as mainly building automation for:
- CI/CD pipelines so that when developers push their code, it automatically starts building, scanning, testing, packaging, and possibly deploying it
- infrastructure provisioning that often ties into the CI/CD above
However, I know in some companies it can mean different things and I have had other responsibilities outside the two above.
So if you were to give advise on becoming a devops engineer, what technologies will you recommend?
@@Ayotundejerry I’d advise learning Python, bash/linux commands, docker, kubernetes, terraform, and AWS. Those will be commonly used in a lot of places.

@@Ram_jagat no, I don’t think so. I did work at one place that wanted me to know it, but I never really used it. If you get good at 1 programming language, it will go far when picking up others.
DevOps job is also explaining to financial department why you need this amount of fund.

Thank you for the tips. I'm unexpectedly has been put into DevOps position. In my second week and I'm still clueless. I have Docker exposures but not really on Kubernetes and Terraform. That's a good guidance

DevOps is actually what You want it to be. Even only networking guys had DevOps badge in my previous job
It's lovely defined term, since it also includes cloud, most job openings for cloud engineer name it as devops, they have 95% of the work of cloud architect and just a few other tools and call it devops position.
My devops guy is my favorite person on my team because i was the devops guy on my last team and now i don't have to do it anymore

There is nothing called Kubernetes Images. And terraform is used for creating and managing Infrastructure state using code its not used for creating docker images

You know how cars have turbos ? Cars would work perfectly fine without the turbo, but the turbo makes the car go faster. IT is the turbo of the world and DevOps is like putting a chip on top the turbo, so the car goes even faster.

@@Csgo-beast It just word play, nothing to worry about, if you think job description is one you looking for go for it.
DevOps definitely belongs in the "Software Engineering" department.
It has engineering, and you do write code, mostly pipeline code and Infrastructure-as-Code, but you do also use Go or Python every once in a while as well. Even if you don't, it still is in the category of a software engineer, just not a software developer.

Calls himself a DevOps Engineer but doesn't mention Jenkins/Teamcity or any CI/CD tool. Skips Linux and automation tools like Ansible/Chef (Which you need to know before Docker/Podman) and doesn't mention middleware tools like RabbitMQ/IBM MQ or DB's...DB2/Cassandra/Mongo DB etc...not to mention other core DevOps tools like Artifactory/BitBucket or GitHub. The list goes on...
He doesn't even explain what DevOps is properly....
